초록

본 연구는 대학에서의 인성교육에 대한 필요성이 강하게 주장되고 있는 현실 속에서 대학 인성교육의 방향 설정 및 활성화를 위한 논의에 단초를 제공함에 목적을 두었다. 일반적으로 인성교육은 초․중등 교과과정에서 다루어지는 것이 마땅하다고 생각한다. 그러나 학벌 위주의 사회 풍조와 입시 위주의 경쟁적 교육이 초․중등 과정에서의 인성교육을 황폐화시켰고, 이로 인한 인간성 회복의 절실함에서 대학에서의 인성교육에 대한 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 이에 더하여 다수의 기업이 인재를 채용하는 방식에서 지원자의 인성에 비중을 두기 시작함으로써 대학교육은 이를 외면할 수 없는 상황이 된 것도 사실이다. 그러나 보다 근본적인 차원에서 교육의 본래적 목적이 인성을 함양하는 과업이라는 측면을 간과해서는 안 될 것이며, 이에 따라 대학교육에서 인성 함양에 대한 교육을 실시함은 정당성을 부여받게 된다.
이런 이유에서 본 연구는 최근 대학교육에서 인성교육이 왜 필요한지에 대해 성찰함을 시작으로 인성 및 인성교육의 의미를 재론하고, 아울러 인성교육의 주요 덕목에 대해 개괄적으로 살펴봄으로써 대학 인성교육의 방향 설정에 대한 이론적 틀을 제시하고자 했다. 또한 고대로부터 현재에 이르기까지 동서양을 막론하고 공통적으로 비중 있게 다루어진 인성 덕목들 중에서 세계시민이 지녀야 할 인성 덕목으로 배려와 공생, 평화의 덕목을 제안했다. 이 세 가지 덕목은 경계를 초월하여 살아가는 현 세대가 갖추어야 할 공동체적 인성의 필수 개념이라는 전제 아래, 이를 대학 교육에서 어떻게 실천적으로 교육할 수 있는지를 S대학의 인성관련 교과과정 개발을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 향후 한국 대학들이 인성교육의 방향을 설정함에 하나의 모델로 작용할 수 있다는 점에서 의미를 둘 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This study aimed to provide the clues for the discussion on the direction establishment for the personality development education in the university in reality where its needs were suggested strongly. I think the personality education overall should be dealt in the courses of elementary school, middle school, and high school. However, the social trend to emphasize the academic clique and competitive education focusing on university entrances devastated the personality education in elementary school, middle school, and high school. Due to the urgency to recover the humanity from this, the needs of personality education in the university have been raised. Moreover, it is another reality not to overlook the personality education in the university since a lot of companies have been shifted to their reviewing focus to the applicants' personality during the hiring processes. On the other hand, we should not forget the fundamental purpose of the education is to develop the personality, therefore, the implementation of personality education in the university has the great amount of rationales. Hence, in this study, we aimed to revisit the meanings of personality and personality education with the initial consideration why this was required in the university education, and to suggest the theoretical frame on the direction of personality education in the university after reviewing main items of this education overall. Also, we suggested the consideration, living together, and peace as the virtues of personality which the cosmopolitan should have among various virtues of personality that have been commonly dealt significantly from the ancient to the modern society regardless of the geography. Under the assumptions that these three virtues are essential community personality for the current generation who are living together without limitation of the boundaries, we reviewed focusing on the curricula of personality developments in S University how we could educate the students practically in the university setting. This study results implicate the meanings for the Korean universities to affect their direction setting of personality education in the future as one of the models.
