교육용 기초한자 ‘자소표’ 제정의 필요성과 몇 가지 선결과제 (A Study on the Necessity of Enactment of the Grapheme-table of Educational Basic-Chinese-Characters and Several Issues to Be Resolved Prior to Decision)

초록

본고는, ‘한문 교육용 기초한자 1,800자’가 교육현장에서 실질적으로 유용하게 활용되기 위해서는 보완책이 필요하고, 그 가운데 가장 시급한 것이 자소목록의 정리를 통한 ‘자소표’의 제정이라는 것을 논의하기 위해 작성되었다. 또한, ‘자소표’의 제정을 위해서는 먼저 해결해야만 하는 몇 가지 문제점들을 제기하고, 그에 대한 해결방안을 모색해 보았다.
한자의 파생관계는 의부 혹은 음부에 의해 매우 유기적으로 이루어진다. 의부와 음부는 일정한 수의 자소에 의해 구성되고, 그들은 다시 다양한 층차로 결합하여 수많은 새로운 글자들을 구성한다. 이를 거꾸로 이야기하면, 아무리 많은 수의 한자를 대상으로 하더라도 단계별로 분석하게 되면 일정한 수의 字素만 남게 된다는 것이다. 이는 효율적으로 한자를 가르치거나 학습하는 입장에서 매우 중요한 사실이지만, 우리나라 교육현장에서는 여러 가지 제약조건들로 인해 간과되는 경우가 대부분이다.
현재 기초한자의 수가 1800자로 제한되어 있고, 학습과정은 중학교용 900자와 고등학교용 900자로 나누어 학습하는 체계로 되어있다. 선정된 字數의 적합성도 문제가 되지만, 각 과정별로 나열된 글자들을 살펴보면, 字形 간의 유기적 관계를 고려하지 않고 배열된 경우를 쉽게 발견할 수 있다. 교육과정 중에서의 여러 제약들로 인해 기초한자의 자수를 제한 할 수밖에 없는 것이라면, ‘자소표’의 제정이 다양한 교육환경에서 탄력적으로 한자교육을 할 수 있게 하는 보완책 역할을 할 수 있을 것이며, 字形 간의 유기적 관계를 고려한 한자교육을 위한 보충자료로서의 역할도 해낼 수 있을 것이다.
한자의 자소분석을 통한 자소표 작성의 목적은 크게 나누어 두 가지로 구분될 수 있을 것이다. 그 중 하나는 기계적 분석을 통한 한자정보처리시스템 구축을 위한 것이고, 또 하나는 한자교육을 위한 것이다. 자소분석 과정에 나타나는 양자 사이의 가장 큰 차이는, 전자의 경우, 분석 층차가 가능한 한 최소단위까지 내려가는 기계적 분석방법을 택할 수 있는 반면, 후자는 글자를 구성하는 자소들이 운용되는 과정에서의 상호 유기적 관계를 고려하여 분석 층차를 결정해야 한다는 점이다.
이러한 점에서, ‘교육용 기초한자 1800자’를 대상으로 한 자소표 작성에 있어서도 가장 해결하기 어려운 문제는 ‘자소분석의 원칙과 그 세부규칙’을 통한 분석 층차의 결정‧다양하게 나타나는 변이자소의 처리‧字素組의 설정 등이다. 또한, 개별자소의 명칭 부여‧색인 작업을 위한 획수의 규범화 등도 간단한 문제는 아니다.
본고에서는, 자소표 작성 이전에 선결되어야 할 몇 가지 문제점들을 논하는 과정에서 실제 발생할 수 있는 구체적 예들을 확인하기 위해, 우리보다 먼저 ‘자소표’를 제정하여 시행하고 있는 중국의 예를 참고하여, 먼저 몇 개의 자소 및 字素組를 대상으로 하여 자소표를 試案으로 제시해 보았으며, 이를 통하여 그 해결방책을 찾아보는 방법으로 논지를 전개하였다.

영어초록

This study aimed at discussing the enactment of the grapheme-table through arranging the grapheme list, the most urgent task among complementary measures necessary for the actual use of '1800 Chinese characters for the education of Chinese characters' in the educational field. In the study, several problems which should be resolved for the enactment of the grapheme-table were raised and the resolutions for them were sought.
Most of Chinese characters are organically composed of meaning and sound elements. The meaning and sound elements consist of a certain number of graphemes, which combine in various layers, creating numerous new Chinese characters. To put it reverse, most of Chinese characters are divided into a certain number of graphemes when analyzed. This is a very important fact that needs to be considered for the effective teaching of Chinese characters, but is ignored in most cases due to various restrictions in the Korean educational field.
Currently, basic Chinese characters to be taught are limited to 1800 characters, 900 characters in the curriculum for middle school students and the rest 900 characters for high school students. The number of selected basic Chinese characters is not suitable. In addition, an examination into the arrangement of the Chinese characters by process showed that the characters are arranged with no consideration of the organic relationships between character shapes. If it is inevitable to limit the number of basic Chinese characters due to various restrictions in the curriculum, the enactment of the grapheme-table should serve as a complementary measure that enables flexible education of Chinese characters in various educational environments. The table also should serve as a supplementary material for Chinese character education that takes into account the organic relationships between character shapes.
The purpose of the enactment of the grapheme-table through the analysis of graphemes of Chinese characters can be classified into two. One purpose is for the establishment of the Chinese character information processing system through a mechanical analysis, and the other is for Chinese character education. The biggest difference in the two purposes displayed in the process of analyzing grapheme is that for the former a mechanical analysis method in which the layer of analysis reaches the smallest unit can be chosen, while for the latter the layer of analysis should be decided taking into account mutual organic relationships in the process of managing graphemes that compose Chinese characters.
In this respect, the most difficult problems in establishing the grapheme table for '1800 Chinese characters for the education of Chinese characters' include deciding the layer of analysis through the 'principle and detailed norms of the analysis of graphemes,' handling variant graphemes that appear in various ways, and setting up grapheme groups. In addition, granting a name to an individual grapheme and the standardization of strokes for index work are not easy either.
In this study, in order to identify specific possible examples while discussing several problems that should be resolved before the enactment of the grapheme table, similar examples in China, where the grapheme table has been established and used, were referenced. To begin with, a draft grapheme table was presented for several graphemes and grapheme groups and then discussion was made to resolve the problems of the draft.
