朝鮮後期 漢詩 硏究를 위한 몇 가지 提言 (Some Proposals for Researches on Sino-Korean Poems of the Late Joseon Period)

초록

이 글은 조선후기 한시 연구를 위한 몇 가지 제언이라는 주제로 작성된 글이지만, 지금까지 이루어져 온 조선후기 한시 연구의 전체적인 경향을 되돌아보고 새로운 길을 제시하는 거대 담론을 위해 서술된 것이 아니라, 최근 새롭게 대두되고 있는 연구 경향에 대해 반추해 보고자 하는 생각에서 작성된 것이다. 따라서 이 글에서는 번역의 문제나 작품 이해, 사상과 인물의 가치 평가, 문학사적 의미 부여와 같이 지금까지 한시 연구사 검토에서 일반적으로 거론되어 왔던 문제에 대해서는 언급하지 않고, 조선후기 한시 연구의 새로운 경향에 대한 필자 나름의 반성을 중심으로 논의를 전개하고자 하였다.
현재 조선후기 한시문학의 연구 영역은 이전 어떤 시기보다 확대되어 있다. 탈민족주의․탈국가주의를 바탕으로 한 동아시아 권역이라는 문화권역의 설정과 문화론적인 연구 방법의 수용은 이전 시기까지 몇 가지 표어 속에서 진행되어 온 연구 방향을 수정하여 전체 속의 부분으로 우리 스스로를 바라보는 객관적 시각을 견지하게 하였으며, 다채롭고 다양한 작가군을 발굴하고, 이들을 대상으로 연구를 진행하도록 하였다. 그러나 그와 함께 확대된 연구 영역이 조선후기 한시의 본질을 交錯하게 만들고, 糊塗하게 만들 가능성과 위험성 역시 부정하기 어렵다. 현재 사회에서 조선후기 한시의 연구 영역 확장을 부정하는 것은 해서도 안 되는 것이지만, 할 수도 없는 것이다. 그렇지만, 연구 영역의 확장이 의미를 지니기 위해서는 영역의 확장 속에서도 흔들리지 않는 본질의 構築이 먼저 이루어져야 할 것이다.
이와 함께 보다 논리화․객관화․세분화 되어가는 조선후기 한시 연구 경향은 전대 연구를 반성적으로 되돌아보면서 지금까지 무관심하게 보았던 많은 사항에 대한 고민을 불러 오기도 한다. 그 대표적인 것이 용어의 錯亂에 관한 것과 보편과 특수의 이해 부족에서 기인한 착란, 傳統, 繼承, 傳承, 影響과 創新의 구분에 관한 것이다. 이와 문제들에 대해 조선후기 한시 연구자들이 단순하고 직선적인 이해를 바탕으로 별다른 고민 없이 대상을 바라볼 경우 조선후기 한시의 실상은 심각하게 왜곡될 수밖에 없을 것이다.
이 글에서 언급한 조선후기 한시 연구의 문제점들이 새롭거나 특별한 것이라고 할 수도 없고, 언급하지 않은 문제들이 별다른 의미를 지니지 않는 것이라고도 할 수 없다. 그것보다 이 글에서 제시한 문제들은 전통적인 논쟁에서 조금 벗어나 현재 연구자들이 부딪히기 시작한 문제들로, 아직까지 해결할 수 있는 특별한 방법을 찾지 못한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 내재적 문제의 해결조차 쉽지 않은데, 동아시아로 확장된 연구 영역과 문화로 확대된 연구 경향 속에서 발생한 이러한 문제들은 사실 해결의 기미가 보이지 않기도 한다. 어떻게 본다면 영역의 확장을 통한 가치와 의미 증대가 수반한 경계의 해체와 혼란, 계통 수립을 통한 명징성의 추구가 몰고 온 개념의 착란은 다른 누구도 해결해 줄 수 없는 것이라고도 할 수 있다. 하지만 그런 만큼 조선후기 한시 연구자들이 연구를 시작하던 그 당시로 돌아가 ‘무엇을’ 그리고 ‘왜’라고 스스로에게 한 번이라도 더 되물어 본다면 당장 해결할 수는 없을지 모르지만 최소한 이 문제들의 확대와 심화는 막을 수 있으리라 생각된다. 조선후기 한시 연구자들의 분발과 세심한 노력이 필요한 때라고 보인다.

영어초록

Although this paper is written with the theme of some proposals for researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period, it is not for the mass-discourse reviewing overall tendency of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period and suggesting new ways, but for ruminating on the newly arising recent research tendency. Indeed, this paper does not try to mention the generally discussed matters such as matters of translation, understanding individual poems, evaluation on thoughts and poets, and meanings in history of literature, but to focus on the reflections on the new tendency of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period.
The current boundary of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period is more expanded than that of any previous time. Setting up the east Asian cultural area based on de-ethnocentrism and de-nationalism and methodological adoption of culture theory have us modify the previous way of research under some slogans toward maintaining an objective perspective recognizing ourselves as a part of the whole, discover diverse groups of poets, and proceed researches on them. However, the possibility that the expansion of research boundary with them can made the substance of Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period entangled and misled is hard to be denied. In present, the denial of the expansion of the boundary of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period should not be done and also could not be done. However, in order to verify the meaning of the expansion of the research boundary, the substantiality that is not shakable even within the expansion of boundary must be constructed by priority.
With them, the tendency of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period becomes logical, objective, and fragmented; and such a tendency reflectively reviews previous researches and brings up thinks about many things that have not attracted attentions. Representing them are derangements of terms, derangements between universality and particularity derived from lack of understanding, and mis-distinction among tradition, succession, transmission, influence, and innovation. Regarding such matters, if researchers of Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period look at objects without much think depending on simple and linear understanding, the reality of Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period shall be seriously distorted.
Neither that the matters of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period mentioned in this paper are original or special, nor that matters not mentioned are meaningless can be said. Rather, it can be said that the matters presented in this paper are slightly out of the traditional discourses and currently appeared in front of researchers and that the method to resolve them has not been found yet. While the solution for the internal matters is not easy, the matters which arise from the research boundary expanded to east Asia and from the research tendency extended to culture seems to have actually little possibility to solve. In some ways, the deconstruction of borders and disorder which are derived from the increase of value and meaning through the territorial extension and the derangements of concepts which the pursuit of clarity through systematic establishment brings up can be considered as something that nobody can resolve. Nonetheless, going back to the starting point of researches on Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period and re-asking ourselves ‘what’ and ‘why’ once more, we may, though we may completely solve the problems, at least stop the expansion and deepening of these matters. It seems that it is the time for researchers of Sino-Korean poems of the late Joseon period to exert and to endeavor carefully.
