고려시대 관인층의 매장지 표기 및 매장지 분석 – 묘지명 자료를 중심으로 - (An analysis on burial site marks and burial sites for officials in Goryeo Dynasty –Focusing on Epitaph data -)

초록

고려시대 관인층의 묘지명은 사망한 친인을 매장한 장소에 대해 거의 빠짐없이 기록하고 있다. 지금처럼 정확한 위치 표기가 어려웠던 당시에 고려 관인들은 여러 가지 형태로 매장지 위치를 정확하게 기록하기 위해 노력하였다.
가장 일반적인 매장지 위치 표기 방식은 행정구역명을 기준으로 표기하는 방식, 산과 같은 자연지형물을 중심으로 표기하는 방식, 절과 같은 인공구조물을 중심으로 표기하는 방식, 개성을 중심으로 표기하는 방식이 있었다. 이러한 방식들은 또 다시 여러 가지로 세분된다. 예를 들어 행정구역명을 기준으로 표기하는 방식은 단순히 광역행정구역명만을 표기하는 방식, 광역행정구역명과 하위행정구역명을 같이 표기하는 방식, 행정구역명과 자연지형물을 같이 표기하는 방식, 행정구역명과 인공구조물을 함께 표기하는 방식, 행정구역명 다음에 자연지형물과 인공구조물을 함께 부기하는 방식, 행정구역명 다음에 인공구조물과 하위 행정구역명을 같이 표기하는 방식이 있었다.
고려시대 관인층은 개성 및 개성 소속의 하위 군현의 다양한 지역에 매장지를 마련하였다. 하지만 개성에 거주하는 고려 관인층은 확인된 사례의 46.3~48.4% 즉 거의 절반에 육박하는 사람들이 매장지로 송림현을 선호하였다. 이어 우봉군, 덕수현 등을 선호하였으나, 그 선호 비율은 송림현의 1/6 정도에 불과하다. 반면 토산현, 마전현, 적성현, 파평현에 매장지를 마련한 사례는 보이지 않는다.
고려전기에 고려시대 관인층의 매장지는 특정한 지역에 집중되지 않고 다양한 지역에 위치하였다. 이러한 현상은 무신집권기까지 계속된다. 단 이 시기에 들어와 지방에 무덤을 쓴 사례가 처음 나타난다. 충렬왕대 이후 들어와 고려 관인층이 매장지를 마련한 지역은 큰 변화를 보인다. 우선 지방에 무덤을 쓰는 현상이 확대되었다. 더불어 개성 거주 고려 관인층의 30% 이상이 대덕산이란 특정 산에 매장지를 마련하였다. 고려후기에 들어와 장례 기간이 짧아지면서 시간적 여유를 가지고 길지를 점쳐 매장지를 마련하던 관행은 힘들어졌고, 따라서 개성에서의 접근성, 풍수지리상의 이점, 교통의 편의성 등을 고려하여 개성 거주 고려 관인층이 대덕산이란 특정 산에 망자의 무덤을 집중적으로 쓴 것이 아닌가 생각된다.

영어초록

The tomb was the place where the body of the dead was enshrined and, for the living, it was a place to remember and honor the dead. Therefore, it was very important for the relatives of the dead to accurately remember the location of the tomb. The epitaphs of the officials in the Goryeo Dynasty are also containing almost all the places where the deceased relatives were buried. Even when it was difficult to accurately mark the location as is now, the officials in the Goryeo Dynasty tried to define the location of burial sites as accurately as possible in various forms.
The most common methods of marking the burial site were based on the administrative district names, the natural features such as mountains, the artificial structures such as temples, and Gaeseong, the capital of Goryeo. Again, these methods were subdivided into several categories. For example, the method based on the administrative area names was divided into the simple expression of wide-range administrative area name, the combined expression of wide-range and its sub administrative area names, administrative area name and natural landmark together, administrative area name and artificial landmark together, administrative area name and natural and artificial landmarks together, and administrative area name followed by artificial structure and sub administrative area name.
In the Goryeo Dynasty, the officials provided their tomb sites in various areas of Gaeseong and its suburbs. However, among the confirmed Goryeo officials living in Gaeseong, about 46.3 ~ 48.4%, or nearly half, preferred Songlim-hyeon as the burial place. Following this, Woobong-gun and Deoksoo-hyun were preferred, but their ratio was only about 1/6 of Songlim-hyeon. On the other hand, there were no cases where burial sites were established in Tosan-hyeon, Majeon-hyeon, Jeokseong-hyeon, and Papyeong-hyeon.
In the early Goryeo period, the burial sites were not concentrated in a specific area but were dispersed in various areas. This phenomenon continued until the rulership of military officers. During this period, there was the first case that the tomb was located in a local area. Since the reign of King Chungyeol, the areas where the Goryeo officials provided their tomb sites changed greatly. First, the phenomenon of providing the tomb in the local area was expanded. Especially, more than 30% of the Goryeo officials living in Gaeseong provided their tombs in a specific mountain called Mt. Daedeok. As the funeral period was shortened in the late Goryeo Dynasty, it would have been difficult to find the auspicious tomb sites with sufficient time. So, considering the accessibility in Gaeseong, the advantages of Feng Shui geography, and the convenience of transportation, the officials in Gaeseong seem to have concentrated their tomb sites in the specific mountain of Mt. Daedeok.
