수당과 명청시대 연꽃문양을 활용한 카펫디자인 개발연구 (Study on the Design and Development of Carpet Using Lotus Pattern in Sui-Tang and Ming-Qing Dynasties)

초록

초기 남⋅북조시대부터 연꽃이 청동기 장식에 사용되다가 수당 시대에 이르러 불교문화가 전래되면서연꽃은 불교의 중요한 장식요소로써 새로운 가치와의미를 부여하게 되었다. 명청시대에는 연꽃문양의 활용이 더욱 광범위해졌고, 문양의 조형도 더욱 풍부하고 생동감이 넘쳤다.
본 연구목적은 연꽃 문양 발전의 중요한 전환점인수당 시대, 명청 시대를 조사하여 전통적인 문양을 보호하고 발전시켜 이 독특한 문양을 현대에서 지속적으로 혁신할 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 동시에 현대 장식 디자인의 개발을 통해 전통 문양의 현대적 응용및 개발을 위한 기반을 제공하는 것이다.
연구범위는 중국문화에서 가장 연꽃문양이 왕성하게 발전한 수당⋅명청시대의 연꽃문양(보상연꽃, 잔가지연꽃)을 선정하여 디자인하였다.
연구방법은 참고문헌을 중심으로 이론적 고찰하였고, 인터넷사이트를 통해 수당과 명청 시대 연꽃문양을 분석하였다. 또한 카펫의 제조방법을 고찰하였으며, 프로크리에이트(Procreate)와 포토샵(Photoshop)을이용하여 카펫디자인 시각화를 제시하였다.
수당과 명청시대 연꽃문양을 활용한 카펫디자인 개발하여 다음과 같은 결론을 도출시켰다.
수당시대의 보상연꽃문양을 반영한 첫째는 ‘연꽃의운치’이다. 나일론을 카펫 소재로 사용하였으며 보상연꽃문양은 대칭과 배열 조합하는 방식으로 꽃가지를활짝 핀 연꽃을 중심으로 가장자리를 향해 펼쳐 복잡함과 화려함을 표현하였다. 둘째는 ‘연꽃의 피어나기’ 이다. 전통적인 보상연꽃 장식 중심의 전개 배치, 대칭적이고 균형 잡힌 배치와 중복구성된 연꽃을 참조하여 복잡한 패턴으로 시각화하여 디자인하였으며, 조용하고 편안한 분위기를 연출하였다.
다음은 명청시대의 잔가지연꽃문양을 반영한 첫째는‘연꽃의 세계’이다. 디자인은 명청시대 잔가지연꽃문양의 배열 방법을 참고하여 연꽃 모양을 추상적 창작 방법으로 표현하였다. 연속된 꽃가지는 민족의 영원한 상징성을 강조했다. 둘째는 ‘잔가지연꽃 무곡’이다. 뒤틀린덩굴은 연꽃을 연결하는 핵심 요소이며, 물결치는 연꽃가지를 추상적으로 표현하였다. 생명의 통합과 지속적인 성장을 상징하여, 독특한 민족적 의미를 표현하였다.
따라서 중국 수당과 명청시대 전통 연꽃문양은 상징성과 미학적 가치가 풍부하여 전통문화의 정수를이어갈 뿐만 아니라 현대사회에 깊은 문화적 함축과창의성을 불어넣어 카펫디자인 개발에 중요한 자료로도움을 줄수 있다고 기대한다.

영어초록

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the use of lotus patterns became even more widespread, characterized by richer and more dynamic forms. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, its utilization became even more extensive, and the patterns became more diverse and dynamic. Starting in the early period of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the lotus motif was used in bronze decorations. With the spread of Buddhism during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the lotus became an essential decorative element in Buddhist culture, imbuing it with new values and meanings.
The primary objective of this study is to investigate the pivotal transitions in lotus motif development during the Sui, Tang, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The aim is to preserve and advance traditional motifs, facilitating their continuous innovation in contemporary contexts. Simultaneously, the study aims to provide a foundation for the application and development of traditional motifs in modern decorative design.
The research focuses on the flourishing development of lotus motifs during the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Ming and Qing Dynasties, specifically exploring two lotus patterns: the ‘Bo Sang Lotus’ and the ‘Twigs Lotus.’ The research methodology involves a theoretical review centered on reference literature and an analysis of lotus patterns during the Sui, Tang, Ming, and Qing Dynasties through internet sources. Additionally, the study examines carpet manufacturing methods and presents visualizations of carpet designs using Procreate and Photoshop.
The development of carpet designs incorporating lotus motifs from the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Ming and Qing Dynasties led to the following conclusions.
For Sui and Tang Dynasties, it is the “Elegance of Lotus,” reflecting the ‘Bo Sang Lotus’ pattern. Nylon was used and the ‘Bo Sang Lotus’ pattern was expressed through a symmetrical and arranged combination, portraying fully bloomed lotuses at the center, unfolding towards the edges to reveal complexity and splendor.
Moreover, it is the “Blooming Lotus.” Drawing inspiration from the traditional ‘Bo Sang Lotus’ decoration, the design incorporated a symmetrical, balanced arrangement with overlapping lotuses, visualized into intricate patterns, creating a serene and tranquil ambiance.
In the case of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, firstly, it is the “World of Lotus," incorporating the ‘Twigs Lotus’ pattern. The design abstractly expresses lotus shapes by referencing the arrangement method of the ‘Twigs Lotus’ pattern during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The continuous floral branches emphasize the eternal symbolism of the nation. Secondly, it is the “Twisting Jeonji Lotus.” The twisted vines serve as a key element connecting lotuses, abstractly portraying undulating lotus branches. Symbolizing the unity and continuous growth of life, the design expresses a unique ethnic meaning.
Hence, traditional lotus motifs from the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Ming and Qing Dynasties in China possess rich symbolic and aesthetic values. They not only carry forward the essence of traditional culture but also inject profound cultural implications and creativity into modern society. The study anticipates that these motifs will serve as valuable resources for the development of carpet design.
