초록

이 논문은 1960년대 대중 잡지에 나타나는 ‘부’의 서사적 특성을 분석하고, 그로 인해 착목되는 미디어 정치를 고찰했다. 이를 위해 이 논문은 『명랑』의 사회면을 주요 텍스트로 살펴보았다.
『명랑』의 사회면은 4·19와 5·16을 지나면서 눈에 띄게 증가했다. 사회면은 크게 한국 사회의 다층적 현상을 취재한 기사와 각계각층에서 두각을 보이는 인물들을 취재한 기사로 나눌 수 있다. 사회면은 소위 ‘부자’라 불리는 인물들의 부에 주목했다. 『명랑』은 이들이 부를 축적할 수 있었던 원동력을 일에 대한 신념과 돈을 향한 집념에서 찾았다. 이와 대조적으로 노동하지 않는 빈자는 계도의 대상이었다. 이러한 『명랑』의 시각은 미디어의 정치성을 드러내는 지점이다. 이와 반대로, 『명랑』은 독자들을 이데올로기에 포섭하는 과정에서 균열을 드러내기도 했다. 이를 잘 보여주는 것이 대기업의 경영인을 둘러싼 서사다. 1960년대 후반부터 『명랑』은 수출 호재에 발맞춰 거대 자본을 유동시키는 대기업에 주목했다. 『명랑』은 이들이 부를 축적하는 과정에서 발생했던 범법을 기업 경영에서 발생하는 ‘에피소드’처럼 다루었다. 『명랑』은 경영인들이 한국 경제를 이끄는 주역이라는 점을 강조하며, 이들이 경제 성장을 앞당길 것이라는 긍정적인 전망을 내놓기도 했다. 이는 노동의 가치가 퇴색되어, 돈을 버는 수단과 방법이 중요하지 않았던 세태를 반영한 것이다.
이와 같이, 『명랑』의 사회면은 당대 사회의 흐름을 쫒으며, 시류에 편승하려는 독자의 취향에 조응하고자 했다. 이 과정에서 독자들을 이데올로기에 포섭하려 했고, 그로 인한 균열을 드러내기도 했다. 이는 1960년대 『명랑』의 특성이라 말할 수 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the narrative characteristic of the “wealth” that appeared in a popular magazine called “Myeongrang” during the 1960s and will examine the media politics that resulted from it. Thus, this thesis will mainly examine the social aspect in “Myeongrang,” as a main context.
The “Myeongrang” magazine started to mainly focus on the social aspect after the April 19(revolution) and May 16(Military Coup). The social aspect section clearly got divided into articles covering multilayered phenomena in Korean society and articles covering prominent figures.
In the social aspect, so-called ‘the upper class of the wealth’ was mainly centralized. In “Myeongrang,” magazine rationalized the reason why they were able to maintain the ‘wealth’ through the driving force that enabled them to accumulate wealth in their belief in work and obsession with money. In contrast, in society, the poor so-called “lower class” who did not contribute to labor were the objects of the guidance. The “Myeongrang,” emphasized their work ethic by comparing them to their poverty. This is the point where the political nature of the media revealed the ideology inclusion distinctly appeared in “Myeongrang.” On the contrary, “Myeongrang” also presented cracks in the process of incorporating the ideology of inclusion. This is well demonstrated in the narrative surrounding large corporations. During the mid-1960’s the “Myeongrang,” began to pay attention to large corporations that were mobilizing massive capital in line with the export boom. The ”Myeongrang,” regarded the legal violations that occurred in the process of accumulating wealth as a scandal in corporate management.
The ”Myeongrang,” emphasized the role of businessmen as key players leading the Korean economy, contributing a positive outlook that they would participate in advancing economic growth. This perspective from the “Myeongrang,” reveals a point of tension within the ideology. It reflects a time when the value of labor had eroded, and the means and methods of making money were far more important than ever.
Hence, the “Myeongrang’s,” social aspect shows the trends of the society during that time aiming to resonate with the reader’s preference for positioning with the mainstream. During the process of the intrusion of ideology it also showed the cause of the cracks in the intrusion of ideology. This can be recognized to the character and narrative characteristics of the “Myeongrang’s” magazine during the 1960s.
