축제집단에 따른 축제성의 발현양상 －아산시 송악면 마을축제를 중심으로－ (The Manifestation of Festivity Depending on Festival Leading Groups)

초록

아산시 송악면에서 열리고 있는 ‘송악두레논매기보존행사’와 ‘자운영 꽃 축제’, ‘외암리 민속마을 짚풀문화제’ 등을 마을 축제로 설정하고, 축제를 주도하는 집단에 따라 ‘주민주도형’과 ‘생업관련 산업농 주도형’, ‘축제기획자 주도형’ 등으로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과 송악두레논매기보존행사나 자운영 꽃 축제의 경우 마을 축제로 기능하고 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 이 두 사례의 경우 주민이 직접 축제를 주도하는 축제집단으로 참여할 뿐만 아니라 기획하고 실현하는 모습을 보이고 있다. 송악두레논매기보존행사의 경우 주민주도형에 해당하는데 축제가 진행 될수록 연행자와 관람객의 구분이 점차 모호해 지고 가락이 격해지면서 자연스럽게 신명풀이를 경험한다. 축제의 실현과 발현 양상을 볼 때 주민주도형의 축제가 가장 ‘마을축제 답다’고 할 수 있겠다.
자운영 꽃 축제는 산업화의 길을 걷고 있는 산업농이 중심이 되어 만들어진 축제다. 친환경 유기농법과 관련해 기획된 축제로 녹비식물인 자운영이 만개 했을 때, 즉 자운영을 갈아 업고 비료로 쓰기 직전에 축제를 여는 것이다. 한살림 생산자 조합과 조합원인 마을 주민이 축제를 기획하고 만드는 주도적인 축제집단이 된다. 이 축제는 축제 자체의 목적을 양자 간 신뢰공고화, 안정적 유통망 확보와 먹을거리 생산과 소비, 조합에 대한 충성도 함양 등으로 삼고 있다. 축제의 실현과는 달리 다분히 경제적인 이해가 바탕에 깔려있는 축제가 아닐 수 없다. 농촌사회가 산업화 되어가며 산업농이 증가하는 추세임을 감안 한다면 충분히 마을축제의 한 형태로 자리매김 할 수 있으리라 본다.
외암민속마을 짚풀문화제는 규모로 보나 주도집단의 성격으로 보나 이미 마을축제를 벗어나 기존의 지역축제 양상을 보이고 있다. 짚풀문화제 초창기 솔뫼축제가 열릴 때만 해도 마을주민과 지역의 시민단체가 공동 주관하여 기획하고 참여하는 마을축제의 모습을 띠고 있었다. 하지만 축제의 주도권이 아산시로 넘어가면서 마을축제적인 모습은 사라지고 기존의 지역축제 모습으로 현재까지 이르고 있다.
이상으로 살펴본 바로는 축제를 기획하고 준비하고, 실현하는 주도적인 축제집단의 성격과 구성, 역할에 따라 마을축제의 성격과 축제성 발현이 결정된다고 하겠다. 이 과정에서 주목해야 할 것은 마을축제 다운 축제를 만들고 있는 송악두레논매기보존회나 한살림 생산자조합의 경우 공동체의 성격이 나타난다는 점이다. 일상에서 과거의 두레조직과는 그 역할이나 성격이 다르겠지만 생활과 생업, 문화 등이 하나로 묶이는 문화공동체가 형성되어 있다는 점이다.

영어초록

This study has chosen three village festivals held in Songak-myeon, Asan City:Songak Event for the Preservation of Farmers’ Cooperative Rice Paddy Weeding, Milk Vetch Flower Festival, and Straw-Grass Cultural Festival. Based on the group that leads each festival, the study has divided them into three types, the ones led by residents, industrial farming for livelihood, and professional festival organizers. The study has found that Songak Event for the Preservation of Farmers’ Cooperative Rice Paddy Weeding and Milk Vetch Flower Festival work as village festivals. These two festivals are led by the residents themselves, who not only participate in the festivals, but also plan and conduct them. Songak Event for the Preservation of Farmers’ Cooperative Rice Paddy Weeding is the type led by residents. As the festival goes on, its organizers and spectators are not distingui- shable. As its pitch is heightened, all the participants fall in the excess of excitement. Judging from the manifestation of festivity in conducting a festival, the resident-led festival can be ‘a real village festival’.
Milk Vetch Flower Festival is based on industrial farming that is on the way to industrialization. This is a festival planned and conducted in relation to environmentally-friendly and organic farming. When milk vetches, which are used as a fertilizer without their decomposition, are in full bloom, the festival opens right before the field of milk vetches is plowed and turned over. The Hansalim Farmers’ Union and its members who are village residents lead the festival by planning and conducting it. This festival is intended to strengthen the ties between the union and its members, secure definite distribution networks, ensure food production and consumption, and promote the members’ loyalty to the union. This event is considerably focused on economic interests rather than realize the spirit of festivity itself. Taking into account the fact that the agrarian society is being industrialized, and industrial farming tends to be on the increase, this event is sure to take its place as a village festival.
Straw-Grass Cultural Festival held in Oeam Folk Village is gong beyond its place of a village festival, assuming the role of a regional festival in view of its scale and the nature of its leading group. At the beginning when Straw-Grass Cultural Festival was held in the name of Solmoe Festival, this event was led by the village residents and the vllage organizations. They planned and participated in the event, which took on aspects of a village festival. However, as Asan City has taken over the initiative, the event has lost its former aspects of the village festival, gaining the nature of the regional festival.
As examined above, the nature, composition and role of the leading groups are found to determine the nature of village festivals and the manifestation of festivity. What should be noticed in this process is that the Organization for the Preservation of Farmers’ Cooperative Rice Paddy Weeding and the Hansalim Farmers’ Union, which keep village festivals in a proper way, show the characteristics of communities. Though they are different from the past village cooperative gatherings incorporated in daily lives, they are formed as cultural communities in which villagers’ lives, occupations, and culture are united as one.
