고려시기 面에 관한 새로운 자료의 소개와 분석 (Report and Analysis of New Sources on Myeon(面) in the Goryeo Dynasty)

초록

This paper aims to report and analyze inscriptions on roof-tiles about Myeon of the Goryeo dynasty. ‘Myeon(面)’ means to Bangwi-myeon(方位面) of Myeoni System(面里制). According to the researches so far, it is known that the system was put into effect for the first time in the Joseon dynasty.
These inscriptions on roof-tiles were found at 4 chiso-sungs(治所城：a local administrative unit of Goryeo) and 1 the alleged temple site, excavated by Changwon and Busan cities lately.
There are limits to blaze a trail in the field of historical research by lack of data. To overcome these limitations, we have to make efforts to seek new research methods and gather new materials. Some scholars have ever maintained that the researchers on Goryeo dynasty should adopt informations and researches of the historical-archeological study as one way to gather new materials. To this effect, I intend to write this paper primarily.
I have also other motive to write this paper. There is limit to analyzing inscription materials including epigraphes of excavation report because they had been written by a investigation unit comprising some archaeologists, who acted for a limited time, not the relevant experts. So, the bases and the conclusions of analyses have fundamental limits in many cases. Therefore, to use exactly the inscription materials on excavation reports we need to investigate the relevant materials including documentary records closely one more time.
I deal with inscriptions on roof-tiles about Myeon for them to need investigate closely, which are hitherto unknown to Goryeo dynasty researchers, but included in the excavation reports. I hope many people have to feel keenly the necessity of excavating and introducing of new materials for research on Goryeo dynasty. And I wish this paper paves the way for scholars to feel the need to analyse exactly inscriptions and literatures on excavation reports of archaeology.
