다문화 상황에서 이머징교회운동: 설교의 가능성과 신학적 의미 (The Possibilities and Theological Meanings of the Emerging Church Movement: The Possibilities of Preaching and Its Theological Meanings)

초록

한국사회의 다문화화된 환경은 교회에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 이에 대한 교회의 적절한 대응이 시급한데 북미를 중심으로 일어난 이머징교회운동은 다문화 상황에 대한 북미와 영국 개신교회의 응답이었기 때문에 한국교회에 시사하는 바가 크다.
이머징교회운동의 기저에는 근대 이후 대두된 기초주의에 대한 비판이 흐르고 있는데 기초주의는 절대적인 진리를 추구하고 이성 중심적인 사고를 하는 철학·사상 사조이다. 이것이 신학과 교회 안에도 영향을 미쳤는데 성경의 무오류설과 같은 배타적인 교리를 탄생시켰다. 이런 기초주의에 대한 비판은 보수주의의 대안을 마련하려는 서구 개신교 신학자들 사이에서도 뚜렷하게 보이기에 복음주의와 이머징교회 운동의 지도자들 사이에서 공통되는 신학적이고 실천적인 영역을 반기초주의에서 찾을 수 있다.
본고는 이머징교회운동의 방법이 한국교회의 다문화 상황과 설교 사역에 적합할 수 있음을 밝히려고 하는데 반기초주의 중심의 접근으로부터 지식 중심이 아닌 체험, 공동체, 대안 추구 등을 가능케 하는 설교의 모델을 제시한다.

영어초록

With an explicit growth of multicultural members, there have been various approaches to confront and take care of this group of people in Korean Protestant churches by using ministerial needs. Among many considerable attempts to solve these issues, the emerging church movement can be an alternative theological and ministerial movement as a solution in Protestant churches in North America and in Britain. The emerging church movement is a faith and worship transformation movement that challenges many traditional Western Protestant Christians. The emerging church leaders consider the modern trend of highly concentrating on fundamental issues, and "modernism" which has been heavily in their background. Modernism is regarded as pursuing absolutism, rationalism, and certainty. Consequently, it has bred arrogance, inflexibility and/or desire to control others.
Nonfoundationalism, one of the emerging church leaders' main critiques to traditional theology and practice, rejects the epistemological way of thinking and the modernism's effort to find the unquestioned foundation since the Enlightenment. Considering foundationalism also has contributed to theological conservatives having chosen one strong basis like Scripture. The nonfoundational approach of the emerging church movement can appeal to many evangelicals who tend to reconsider their theological and practical issues such as propositional teachings, truth claims about objective realities, or biblical literalism.
To suggest some theological and homiletical insights, I propose some alternatives which mostly come from the emerging church movements' ideas for Korean Protestant churches, which are still under the strong influence of foundational thoughts such as a "bounded-set" with clear "in" and "out" definitions of membership. First, preaching can change the listeners not by propositional information, but by the experience of the Word. Second, preaching based on nonfoundationalism helps the listener find an alternative way of living a biblical narrative. Third, nonfoundational preaching should build up the church as a community. Fourth, preaching's task must be seen as that of a reformation of this world. Finally, nonfoundational preaching should nurture believers as disciples.
