운동의 윤리와 캠페인의 모럴 -‘시와 정치’ 논쟁에 대한 프래그머틱한 부기(附記) (Ethics of Movements and the Moral of Campains -a pragmatic supplement to the 'politics and poetry' argument)

초록

이 논문은 2008년 겨울부터 2011년 봄까지 진행된 ‘시와 정치’ 논쟁의 경과와 그 의미를 프래그머티즘적인 시각에서 살펴보고 정리한 것이다. 진은영의 「감각적인 것의 분배」를 통해 제기된 문제, 즉 어떻게 작금의 현실 상황 하에서 2000년대 젊은 시인들의 미학적인 움직임 속에서 어떻게 정치적 진보주의가 함께 발생 가능할 것인가에 관한 성찰은 화급한 정치 현실 속에서 시인, 평론가, 독자들의 열광적인 관심을 불러일으켰다. 이 문제 제기에 뒤이은 여러 평문과 논문 들은 통해 문학사 내에서 오랫동안 반복적으로 제기되어온 문학과 삶의 관계에 관한 다양한 입장들을 혼재된 형식으로 드러내었으되, 이전의 논쟁들과 비교하여 미학적 형식의 보존에 대한 욕망이 두드러지게 나타났다고 생각된다.
필자는 이 논쟁의 경과가 이 논쟁 직전에 있었던 미래파 논쟁을 위시한 2000년대 젊은 시인들의 미학적 파격에 관한 문제와 연접하여 있다는 전제 하에 이 논쟁에 드러난 실질적인 욕망의 지형을 ‘무한한 숭엄에 대한 열정’을 동력으로 하는 ‘운동’과 ‘유한한 삶의 자각 속에서 삶의 세목에 대한 헌신’을 의미하는 ‘캠페인’이라는 리처드 로티의 메타포를 통하여 살펴보았다. 문학과 사회 사이의 관계에 대한 본질론적 태도와 유명론적 태도의 대립이 문학사 내에서 반복되고 있다는 필자의 시각에 따라, 오랫동안 고수되어온 본질론적 태도에 대한 회의와 반성이 최근 논쟁에 반영되고 있음을 밝히려 하였다. 더불어, 최근에 제출된 진정성 대 스노비즘이라는 공시적 개념 쌍과의 차별점을 서술함으로써 보편적 관점에서 수행적으로 읽히기를 기대하였다.

영어초록

In this paper, I researched and studied on the so-called 'Poetry and Politics' Argument in pragmatist point of view. 'Poetry and Politics' Argument underwent from winter 2008 to spring 2011, it has arisen by complex of the strong psychical reactions to the current social situation as continuing disastrous misgovernment and the field of literature's inner observations on the so-called 'futurist poets' aesthetic experiments. As the start of the argument, Jin Eun-young's "Distribution of the Sensitive" asked herself and fellows how to generate the aesthetic dissensus when we, as the aesthetic avant-garde were faced to the abrupt political regression. More than 30 papers and criticisms of poets and critics which followed Jin's prose has shown the diverse perspectives on the relation of the politics and literature including the traditional opponent views like the defense for the autonomy of literature and for the representative literature with the Realist perspective. Although it looked alike the repeated arguments in the history, unlike the former arguments, eg. 1980's Modernism-Realism discourse, participants seemed to agree at least not to limit or damage the forms of the aesthetic experimental attempts. In short, the compassionate correspondences of the fellow writers to Jin's question have shown strong desire to reserve aesthetic forms.
I proposed in this paper to think the old and repeated question "how should we represent certain political situation?" has belonged to what Rorty called "Movements" and in fact we have already started to realize that we are conducting what Rorty called "Campaigns". "Movements" and "Campaigns" are the metaphors to refer the different attitudes for life respectively; the fundamentalist forms of life which are operated by the passion for the eternal solemnity or sublimity and the anti-fundamentalist or the finite's forms of life which make commitment to the details of the living. I think we are getting realized through the argument, that while the shades of the epoch of "movements" still wanders around, we have already begun "campaigns" in the forms of experiments somehow and it doesn't have to mean that we are destined to be snob or animal.
