초록

경학연구에서 시각과 연구 방법에 대한 검토는 그 결과로서 제출된 연구 성과를 살펴보는 데 중요한 요소이다. 시각과 연구 방법의 전환은 이제까지 제출된 경학 연구의 성과를 새롭게 평가할 수 있는 시야와 이후의연구 경향을 전환시킬 수 있는 논리를 제공한다.
여기에서는 조선의 경학, 구체적으로 조선 후기 맹자학 연구의 방법론을 모색하기 위하여 연구 시각의 전환과 몇 가지 새로운 연구방법론의 문제를 제기해 보기로 한다.
조선 학자들의 관심사를 자료의 통계적 수치를 통해 파악하고, 『맹자』의 핵심 주제에 대한 성찰적 접근을 통해 동아시아에서 조선 맹자학의 변별적 특징을 찾아보려는 것이다. 이는 주자학의 이해와 계승 또는 그 거리두리를 통해 포착된 조선 경학 연구의 전통적인 연구방법을 맹자학의 방면에서 一新해보려는 시도이다.
시도는 구체적으로는 두 측면에서 전개된다. 조선 학자들이 『맹자』 텍스트를 읽으면서 어느 장절에 주석을 하였는가를 문헌적으로 검토하여 그 관심사의 추이를 객관적으로 파악하는 주석분포도 분석이 텍스트에 대한통계적 접근이라면, ‘聖人可學論’, ‘君臣關係論’ 등 논점을 발굴하여 『맹자』 텍스트의 핵심 주제에 대한 견해의 차이를 검토하려는 것은 주제에대한 성찰적 접근이다.
이러한 연구방법론의 모색은 조선 학자들의 견해를 동아시아 학자들과의 연관 속에서 파악함으로써 주자 견해와의 비교에 집중하던 기존 연구의 시각과 서술 비중을 전환시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
이는 궁극적으로 조선의 맹자학이 가진 특질을 파악할 수 있는 시각 내지는 하나의 연구 방법으로 시도되는 것이다. 이러한 시도는 주자학의 거대한 영향력 아래에서도 면면하게 관류하는 조선 학인들의 고민처와 개성적인 견해를 파악할 수 있는 계기의 일단이 될 수 있을 것이다.
당대의 학술 경향으로 표현될 수밖에 없지만 그러한 학술적 형식의 이면에 흐르는 그 시대 학자들의 문제의식과 고민에 대한 성찰은 여전히 의미 있는 연구 대상이다. 이것이 바로 고전에 대한 탐색으로서의 경학 연구에서 우리가 길어내야 하는 유의미한 가치이다.

영어초록

In the study of Confucian classics, review on viewpoint and study method is an important element in examining performance of study submitted as a result.
Conversion of viewpoint and study method provides viewpoints for newly evaluating the performance of study of Confucian classics submitted up to now as well as logics that can convert the study trend after now.
This thesis will raise the problems of several new study methods as well as conversion of study viewpoint in order to explore study of Confucian classics in Joseon, specifically, methodology of Mencius Doctrine at late Joseon.
It aims to recognize the concern of Joseon scholars through numerical values of data, and to identify the discriminate feature of Mencius Doctrine at Joseon,East Asia through introspective approach of core subjects of “Mencius”. It is an attempt to renew traditional study methods of study of Confucian classics, captured through understanding and inheritance of the doctrines of Chu-tzu, from the field of Mencius Doctrine.
Attempts are made from 2 aspects specifically. While analysis on annotation distribution, which tries to examine the trend of concerns objectively by examining the literature to see which chapters and verses Joseon scholars annotates by reading “Mencius” text, is the statistical approach for text, the attempt to review difference of opinions on core theme of “Mencius” text by discovering “Learn to become a saint(聖人可學論)” and “Problem of Lord and Vassal Relationship(君臣關係論)” is the introspective review on theme.
Such exploration of study method is expected to switch the percentage of description and viewpoint of existing studies which focused on comparison with opinions of Chu-tzu by examining the opinions of Joseon scholars in relation to scholars of East Asia.
It is attempted as one study method or viewpoint that can grasp the features of Mencius Doctrine of Joseon ultimately. Such attempt may serve as an opportunity to identify idiomatic opinions and concerns of Joseon scholars that flow through continuously under great influence of the doctrines of Chu-tzu.
While it should be expressed as a scholastic trend of the times, introspection on concerns and critical mind of the scholars of the times that flow behind the scholastic form, is still a target of meaningful study. It is the meaningful value that we should identify from study of Confucian classics as an exploration on classics.
