초록

One’s utilization of deixis shows his psychological attitude to the language which he conducts in his politicallife, as well as in his everyday life. This study studies Putin’s last two inaugural addresses first, through a psycholinguistic analysis of the theoretical background, and second, through a comparative analysis of several themes drawn from the two addresses, using inductive reasoning. Several characteristics of Putin’s choice of deixis were discovered. Putin used ‘I’to represent individual responsibility for the Russian state or presidential affairs and obstacles faced by the state whereas he chose ‘we’to represent collective responsibility for the general national affairs and success of the state at every level; economic growth, opened diplomatic situation, development of social security, etc. Putin also uses ‘I’ and ‘we’ to correspond to a collective national mind, reflecting mental harmony between the Russian people and himself. While these results could hardly be extrapolated as a psycho-analysis of Putin’s ideology or personality, it shows that he wants to identify openly his own presidential devices to the destiny of the Russian people. On the other hand, observing his discursive intentionality could lead to a mental mapping for interpreting these kinds of text.
