초록

본 연구는 주변부에 머물러 있던 하위 주체였던 기지촌 ‘미군 위안부’의 정동이 연극/희곡 속에서 어떻게 구현되고 있는지를 살펴보고 동시대 연극에서 ‘미군 위안부’가 어떻게 인식되고, 그 인식과 당사자 증언이 어떻게 극형식을 이루며 인물로 형상화하여 관객들이 극과 어떤 관계를 맺게 하는지를 살펴보고자 했다.
연구 대상인 「일곱집매」, 「문밖에서」는 ‘기록’과 ‘증언’의 서사이자, 작가가 평택 기지촌이라는 특수한 지역의 생존자들과 긴 만남을 통해 창작하여, 지속적으로 관객과 교류해 온 연극이라는 공통점이 있다. 또, 과거의 재현에 머물지 않고, 미군 위안부 생존자의 증언과 그들의 현재에 주목한다.
본 연구에서는 국가적 기획과 사적 기억의 교차, 국가와 가부장제의 내면화된 규율 안에 속박된 인물의 트라우마와 증언, 특히 과거의 사건에 대응하는 인물의 기억하기, 말하기라는 정치적 행위와 그 의미를 살펴보려 하였다. 또, 생존자들에게 말하기를 요청하는 새로운 세대의 요구가 동시대와 지나간 역사를 어떻게 연결하는지 등을 분석하고자 하였다. 이 작품들은 ‘미군 위안부’의 문제를 개인적 경험이 아니라 우리 사회가 당면한 문제로 파악하며, 이 문제가 관객의 기억과 새로운 관계를 맺고 ‘지금-여기’ 우리의 문제로 확장하게 한다.
특히 이 두 작품은 6~70년대 전성기였던 기지촌의 시절을 지나 노년을 쪽방에서 버텨나가며 무연고사로 세상을 떠나는 ‘미군 위안부’의 현실과 그들을 기록하며 경청하는 젊은 세대를 통해, 폭력의 계보가 국가적 기획 속에서 형성되어 지금에 이르고 있음을 밝혀나간다. 이들의 또 다른 공통점은 기지촌 내부의 폭력의 전시를 피하며, 관객과 인물들 모두 도달해야 하는 진실이 있음을 담지한다는 것이다. 또한 위안부 생존자들의 후손, 혹은 이후 세대들 역시 완전히 이 문제로부터 동떨어진 존재가 아니라 자신이 누구인지를 찾아가는 열쇠로 위안부 생존자들과 연결한다.

영어초록

This study considered that the point where plays based on ‘Comport Women’ for the US Army could not be expanded to research and discussion is to alienate discourse, and examined how the emotion of the base village ‘Comport Women’ for the US Army is embodied in plays.
The study also aims to examine how ‘Comport Women’ for the US Army is perceived in contemporary theater, how this perception shapes the dramatic form and characterization of the individuals within the plays, and how it establishes a relationship between the audience and the play.
The subjects of this research, <Ilgopzipmae> and <Outside the Door>, share a common characteristic as theatrical works that serve as both “records” and “testimonies.” The most significant commonality among the selected works for this study is their focus on the testimonies of the survivors of comfort women, without merely dwelling on the reenactment of the past.
The playwright have created these works through extensive encounters with the survivors of the unique spatial context of Pyeongtaek's military base village, and they have consistently engaged with audiences. In this study, the aim was to examine the intersection of national planning and personal memory, the trauma and testimony of individuals confined within the internalized regulations of the nation and patriarchy, and particularly the act of remembering and speaking by characters in response to past events, as well as the political significance of such acts. The analysis sought to explore how the demands of a new generation, which ask survivors to speak, connect contemporary and past histories. These works attempt to expand the issue of ‘Comport Women’ for the US Army in the past to the current “here and now,” and try to build new relationships with the audience and immerse themselves in memory.
In particular, these two works reveal the reality of ‘Comport Women’ for the US Army who pass the heyday of the base village in the 6-70s and endure their old age in a small room and die without connection. And through the younger generation who record and listen to them, it is revealed that the genealogy of violence has been formed in national planning and continues to this day. Another thing they have in common is that they avoid the display of violence inside the base village and contain the truth that both the audience and the characters must reach. Moreover, the descendants of comfort women or subsequent generations are also connected to the survivors, not as completely detached from this issue but as individuals seeking to discover their own identity.
