작문수업과 문예부, 문학청년의 망탈리테 (A composition lesson and the literature club and mentalite of a literary youth)

초록

이 논문은 작가들의 회고와 소설을 대상으로 삼아, 문학적 글쓰기가 만들어지는 데 있어서 작문수업, 회람잡지, 교지의 역할과 의미, 그것을 둘러싼 관계망에 대해 논구한 글이다. 지금까지 대부분의 논의가 등단, 혹은 그 이후 승인의 과정 등에 입각해 문학적 글쓰기의 형성과정을 고찰한 데 반해, 이 논문은 작가의 글쓰기 체험에서 간과되기 쉬운 교육, 수업, 문예반 활동 등에 주목한다. 자기 발현, 낭만성, 창조적 열정이 만들어지는 중요한 부분적 계기는 점수화나 지적 우월감과 같은 교육의 논리에 기반한다. 그러므로 작문수업과 문예부에 대한 고찰은 근대 조선의 문학장이 지식인을 중심으로 구조화되는 양상을 보여준다. 또한, 강매와 야마가타 데이자부로와 같은 교사에 대한 고찰은 식민지 조선에서 이루어진 작문수업의 주체, 방식, 영향을 연구하는 데 유용한 시각을 제공한다.
이 논문은 구체적으로 휘문과 배재고보, 중앙학교 학생들에 의해 회람잡지, 교지 등이 발행된 과정에 대한 접근을 시도한다. 회람잡지를 통해 창작열을 해소했던 학생들은 3․1운동을 겪으면서 지하신문을 간행하며 혁명적 글쓰기를 행한다. 작가들의 회고에서 회람잡지(혹은 윤독신문)는 청춘의 에너지를 보존하기 위한 예술적 코드로 집약된다. 그리고 교지는 입학난과 학생문화가 길항하는 가운데 문학열을 해소하고 자기를 증명하는 장으로서 의미를 갖는다. 그러나 학생들의 발화욕망 증가와 교지의 대중화는 조선총독부의 감시를 강화하는 결과를 낳는다. 이 과정에서 학생들은 조선총독부와 학교의 정책에 저항하거나 동맹휴학을 벌인다. 그리고 교사들은 조선 실정에 맞는 교과서에 대한 문제의식을 갖고, 교과서 개편을 주장하며, 조선총독부로 하여금 조선 정서가 담긴 독본을 발행하게 한다. 이처럼 이 논문은 교육제도 속에서 학생과 교사가 경험한 의식과 감정이 이후 근대 글쓰기 장에 미친 영향을 드러낸다.

영어초록

In this paper, composition lesson, circulating magazine and school magazine are discussed in the view of the role and meaning of those things with respect to literary writing and the social relationship caused by those things, based on the remembrance and the novels of relevant writers. By this time, the almost studies have dealt with the formation of literary writing, focused on the starting of writer's career and the approval process after that. But this study pays attention to the writer's literary experience related with the education, lesson and literature club, which could be ignored easily. The educational elements like grade and sense of intellectual superiority had a important effect on the establishment of the writer's self manifestation, romance and creative passion. Therefore, the study of the composition lesson and the activity of literature club shows the aspect in which the literature field of modern Joseon was constituted mainly with intellectuals. And the consideration of teachers like Kangmae and Yamagata, provide useful point of view in studying the main agent, methods and effects of composition lessons carried in Joseon colony.
This paper try to reveal the publication process of the circulating magazine, school magazine, etc. done by the students of Whimoon Godeung Botong School, Paichai Godeung Botong School and Jungang Godeung Botong School. The students who resolved their creative passion through circulating magazines, became to publish underground press and make writings toward revolution through the March First Independence Movement. In the remembrance of writers, the circulating magazines(or newspaper read by turns) are expressed as artistic code for the conservation of youth power. And school magazines have the meaning as the field in which passion for literature can be resolved and the talent can be proved while difficulty in obtaining school admission and student culture stand against each other. But the increasing desire for expression of students and popularization of school magazines resulted in the reinforcement of surveillance of the Japanese Government General of Korea. In this process, the students struggled with the policy of that government and the school or went on a unified student strike. And the teachers argued for the reorganization of the textbook with having critical mind of those books suitable for real state of Joseon and induced the government to publish text containing the emotion of Joseon.
