개화기 말뭉치에 나타난 ‘-법(法)’ 파생어의 어휘-구문적 특징 연구 (A Study on the Lexico-Grammar Distinction of '-법(法/law/method/rule)' Derivatives in the Enlightenment Corpus of Korea)

초록

이 글은 개화기의 ‘-법(法)’ 파생어들을 대상으로 조어 범주와 의미자질을 분류하여 살펴보고, 각각의 어휘-구문적 특성을 당시의 신문ㆍ잡지 말뭉치를 통해 파악해 보는 데에 목적이 있다. 개화기의 어휘가 사전학적 관점에서 그런대로 고스란히 담겨 있는 『朝鮮語辭典』(1920)의 등재 여부와 오늘날 국립국어원의 『표준국어대사전』(1999)의 등재 정보를 적극적으로 활용하여 개화기의 ‘-법(法)’ 파생어의 정착과 명멸에 따른 변천까지 조명하고자 하였다. 개화기 신문ㆍ잡지에 출현빈도가 높은 어휘군 중에서 ‘-법(法)’ 파생어는 [법률/law], [방법/method], [법칙/rule]으로 하위범주화할 수 있었다. 45개의 [법률] 관련 ‘-법(法)’ 파생 명사는 전체의 60%를 차지한다. 개화기의 대다수 ‘-법’ 관련 파생어가 속하는 셈이다. 한편 25개의 [방법]을 뜻하는 ‘-법(法)’ 파생 명사는 33.33%를 차지했다. 또 5개의 [법칙]을 뜻하는 ‘-법(法)’ 파생 명사 ‘물리법物理法 LegesNaturae, 리법生理法 LegesPhysioloqicae, 인력법引力法 LexAttractionis, 즁력법重力法 LexGravium, 화학법’이 대부분 라틴어 정보를 노출한 채 6.67%로 나타났다. ‘-법(法)’ 파생어에서 특기할 점은 한자뿐만 아니라 원어도 함께 노출하고 있는 신어가 나타난다는 것이었다. 특별히 [법칙]의 ‘-법(法)’ 파생어는 신어의 수준을 넘어서 전문용어(terminology)의 영역이 문증된 셈이다. 오늘날 『표준』에서도 확인되는 개화기의 ‘-법(法)’ 파생어들은 모두 『조선』에는 미등재어이다. 당시 자료의 띄어쓰기 등을 고려할 때, 사용자는 대체로 합성어로 파악하나 사전편찬자는 합성어로 보지 않거나 부표제어의 하위 표제어로는 번거롭다고 판단하였을 수도 있기 때문에 『조선』에는 체계적으로 미등재되었다. 한편 『조선』에도 등재되어 있지 않고『표준』에도 미등재어들도 있지만 이것은 명백히 사전 편찬 상의 한계이다. 개화기 자료에 보이던 것만큼 오늘날에도 일상생활에서 자주 쓰이는 ‘-법’ 파생어가 대부분인 것으로 판단되기 때문이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to classify the word-formation category and semantic features of '-법(法/law/method/rule)' derivatives of the enlightenment period in Korea, and to grasp the lexico-grammar distinction through the newspaper / magazine corpus of the time. I want to illuminate the transition of their stemmings and faintings through the active use of the 『朝鮮語辭典』(Korean Language Dictionary)(1920) that was enacted from the lexicological point of view and the registration information of 『표준국어대사전』(Standard Korean Language Dictionary)(1999).
Among the vocabulary groups with high frequency through the newspaper / magazine corpus of the time, the derivation of '-법(法)’ could be subcategorized into [law], [ method], and [rule]. 45 [law] vocabularies related nouns account for 60% of the total. The vast majority of '-법(法)’ related this derivations. On the other hand, 25 [method] vocabularies related nouns account for 33.33% of the total.
Finally, there are also five [rule] derived nouns '물리법(物理法/LegesNaturae), 리법(生理法/LegesPhysioloqicae), 인력법(引力法/LexAttractionis), 즁력법(重力法 /LexGravium), 화학법(chemical rule)' that had most of Latin information and 6.67%.
One of the most remarkable points in the derivation of '-법(法)’ was that they appeared not only in Chinese characters but also in the original language characters.
In particular, the '-법(法)’ derivation is beyond the level of the coined words, and the domain of terminology has been documented.
Today, all of the '-법(法)’ derivations which are also confirmed in the 『표준국어대사전』(Standard Korean Language Dictionary)(1999) were not listed on the 『朝鮮語辭典』(Korean Language Dictionary)(1920) surprisingly. Because considering the spacing of the data at the time, the users generally grasped them as a compound word, but the lexicographer did not see it as a compound word or judged that it was troublesome as a subheading of the subtitle. It was systematically not registered in 『朝鮮語辭典』(Korean Language Dictionary)(1920). On the other hand, '-법(法)’ derivations that were not listed on 『朝鮮語辭典』(Korean Language Dictionary) (1920) are not listed on 『표준국어대사전』(Standard Korean Language Dictionary) (1999) also. But this is clearly a limitation of dictionary compilation. This is because most of the '-법(法)’ derivation words, which are often used in everyday life, seem to be as much as those shown in the enlightenment period data.
