초록

이 연구는 특정한 맥락과 상황에서 사용되던 남북한 상투어가 새로운 ‘거짓말 시리즈’라는 영역으로 변화되어 유통하는 사회언어학적 현상에 주목하고, 그 특성(통속성, 유희성, 사회 비판적 기능)을 밝힌 것이다. 또한 언어가 기본적으로 갖게 되는 언어적 기능 외에 사회·문화적 기능을 어떻게 담당하는가를 고찰했다.
실증적으로 ‘거짓말 시리즈’(상투어 30개)를 수집하고 남한의 자료를 기초로, 탈북민 183명을 설문조사하여 북한의 자료를 추출하여 남북한상투어 사용의 유사성과 상이성을 분석했다. 거짓말 시리즈는 기존의 상투어의 기능이 변화한 것인데, 공감, 설득, 유희, 사회적 비판 등의 언어적 장치로써 획득된 것으로, 축적된 기존 언어의 기능 변화로서 사회성이 두드러지게 반영된다.
이 연구를 통해 제시한 거짓말 시리즈에 차용된 남북한 상투어의 비교와 분석은 남북한 현대 국어와 융합을 위한 언어의 통합적 연구로서의 기초 자료이다.

영어초록

This study examines the The Changing Domains and Functions of Modern Platitudes: The “Lie Series” in South and North Korea. And examines characteristics of platitudes, with a focus on the sociolinguistic phenomenon whereby such expressions have entered the parlance in the form of the Lie Series. The functional transformation of platitudes into a series was made possible by a modern context in which the influence of media allows them to circulate as documents rather than speech. Through analysis of examples from this series, the study considered what meaning lies hold to the contemporary public, how the functions of platitudes change, and what the value of the populist is. The use of the unique form of document represented by the lie is an expression of the public’s sense of loss toward its own society, while the ability to transform platitudes into the extended conversational format of a series owes itself to the recording of modern language from its spoken format through a reliance on media. Moreover, the original meaning of the platitude weakens and transforms into social meaning, where the value of populist character lies in reflection and criticism of the reality. The ultimate significance of this examination is in its role as basic data on modern Korean as a whole. A task for future research would be to conduct an ethical examination of the language to investigate whether the populist character of platitudes is truly representative of the Korean language. from a diachronic perspective, considering its motivations, persistence of continuity with traditional speech Korean people.
