초록

he current research undertakes a corpus-based methodology to analyze the naming process of the crime cases in the article titles of Korean newspapers. The most used information in the name of the crime cases was the information about the crime itself, often realized as ‘murder’ or ‘rape’ cases. It is followed by the information about the location with which the information about the crime was often used together. This tendency can be explained with the optimization of information; more general information about the crime type and more specific information about location together can refer to a certain crime most effectively. In the data information about the criminals was much less used in the name of the crime cases than the information about the victims. Later analysis reveals that criminals appears in the name of the crime cases only in unusual cases information about the victims were used widely especially when the victim is female and young. Following this, we underline that the ‘ideal’ victim of Korean newspaper is young women and the media tend to emphasize the victims of the crime rather than the criminals.
