재만 조선인의 만주공연에 대한 시선 - 1940년대 조선악극단의 공연형식과 흥행 (The Perspectives of Koreans in Manchurian performances-Performance Forms and Success of Chosun Musical Troupe in the 1940s)

초록

‘조선악극단’에 대한 연구는 일제말기부터 해방 후 1960년대까지 연극, 영화, 음악 등의 분야에서 이루어져 왔다. 대부분 ‘악극연구’와 ‘해외 공연의 사례’ 그리고 소속 단원들에 대한 연구가 주를 이루었다. 이미 국내에 잘 알려진 석학 프래센짓 두아라(Prasenjit Duara)는 만주국은 권위주의의 통제하의 신속한 산업화에 경도된 동아시아의 탈식민 발전국가의 전조가 되었다고 하였다. 본 논문은 그러한 전조를 1930년대 조선극단의 만주 순회연극에 이어 특히 1940년대 말 당시 가장 큰 규모의 ‘조선악극단’의 만주 순회공연이 가지는 대중성 확보와 생존 전략에 주목할 수 있었다.
오늘 날의 세계화는 여러 분야에서 확산의 추동력을 보이고 있다. 일본의 대동아공영권(大東亞共榮圈)시대에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 이루어지고 있는 것도 그러한 정치적 배경을 내재하고 있다고 본다. 이러한 점에서 일본의 동화(同化) 정책 개념의 맥락에서 문화적 횡단의 경험을 살피고자 한 것이다.
한국인들의 이주변천을 경험하게 한 만주국은 13년 5개월 존속하였다. 그 안에 짙은 만주국의 그림자는 1937년 일본의 ‘내선일체(內鮮一體)’와 ‘시국참여’라는 정책과 조선총독부의 문화예술 통제 속에서 조선의 악극단이 가진 만주공연 경험은 태평양전쟁으로 징병된 군인 및 노동자 및 만주 등에 강제 이주된 조선인들에게 선전하기 위한 동원문화의 체제 속에서 가능했다. 그 중 가장 인기를 끈 ‘조선악극단’은 1933년 발족한 오케레코드사 소속 오케이그랜드쇼단이란 이름으로 활동하다가 1939년 3월 9일 일본공연부터 ‘조선악극단’이란 명칭을 사용하면서 성장하였다.
따라서 본 논문에서 1940년대 정치화된 대중문화가 재만 조선인에 미친 두 가지 상반된 시선을 바라볼 수 있었던 것은 극단의 존립과 관련된 정치적 선전 도구적 측면과 ‘조선악극단’의 다양한 장르를 결합한 옴니버스 형식이 재만 조선인들의 향수를 불러일으킨 대중성 확보라는 중층적 측면이다. 즉 만주에서 국책 선전공연을 통해 관객의 외면을 받았던 부정적인 측면과 문화적, 경제적 통합이라고 선전된 대동아공영권 시대에 만주 순회공연이 가지는 흥행을 통한 수익성과 지속적인 단체 운영에 따른 생존의 문제가 미치는 대중성 확보라는 공연형식의 면모를 논할 수 있었다.

영어초록

The research of Chosun Musical Troupe has been conducted from the last period of Japanese colonial era to 1960s in the fields of the play, the movie and the music etc. The research mainly consist of the musical drama, oversea's performances and the members of the Troupes.
The well known scholar to Korea, Prasenjit Duara said that the Manzhouguo(the state of Manju) which is on the rapid industrialization under strict authoritarianism has become the harbinger developing country escaping from colonialism in East Asia.
This thesis was able to focus on the early indications of the provincial performances of Chosun Musical Troupes in Manchuria and especially on the gaining of popularity and survival strategy of the biggest performer, Chosun Musical Troupe.
Today's globalization is gaining impetus in many field across the world. The on going Japan's study on the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Era can be regarded as one of the examples of those political background.
From this point of view, the cross cultural experience will be examined in the notion of Japanese's policy of assimilation.
The Manzhouguo(the state of Manju) that had Koreans experience the changes and immigrations lasted 13 years and 5 months.
The experience of the performances of Chosun Musical Troupe was possible in context of propaganda to the drafted soldiers and laborers or forced immigrants in Manzhouguo in mobilization culture under the shadow of Manzhouguo in the Policy of Assimulation of Korea and Japan and strict control of the Japanese Government General of Korea in 1937.
Among the Chosun Musical Troupe, the most popular one is called Okeh Grand Show Troupe belonged to Okeh Record Company established in 1933, which changed its name to Chosun Musical Troupe and continued to grow.
This thesis discussed two aspects of politicized popular culture in 1940s that had the influence on Koreans in Manzhouguo, one of which is that the Chosun Musical Troupe has become political propaganda machine to survive and the other is that the Chosun Troupe secured the popularity of Koreans in Manzhouguo through the omnibus style which combined various genres that provoked the nostalgic memories.
In other words, this thesis was able to address the two main angles of Chosun Musical Troupe, shunned by the public as political propaganda and securing the popularity through the era of Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere which is propagated as cultural and economic integration and survival of Chosun Musical Troupe, through profits and continuation of provincial performances.
