    초록

The purpose of this paper is to explore the significance of the educational passion displayed by Joseon migrants during the period of Manchukuo's imperial education policy following the Sino-Japanese War. Manchukuo was a nation-state that was a product of the colonial imagination, aiming to bring together people from five different ethnic groups - Japanese, Korean, Manchurian, Mongolian, and Russian - in harmony. However, with the introduction of the new education system in 1937, Japanese was enforced as a mandatory subject across all school levels. Furthermore, the reduction in the duration of the school year created obstacles for Manchu or Korean students aspiring to advance to higher-level institutions. Research on education in Manchukuo has focused on revealing that the Japanese education plan was put into place with a view to nurturing royal imperial subjects. However, Engaging in education inherently assumes the existence of educational authority and the relative freedom of those who carry it out. And this inevitably leads to a desire to imitate the educated, which undermines the authority of the educator.
Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the attitudes of individuals who embraced it, in order to analyze the reactions of Korean teachers, parents, students, and community leaders within the educational context of Manchukuo. Using education-related articles from newspapers and Ahn Soogil’s novel as my sources, I investigated the educational culture of Koreans who embraced Japanese educational policies and dissected the school motifs in the novel to uncover the flaws in the ideology of harmony of the five tribes in Manchukuo. During the educational movement of Koreans in Manchukuo, conflicts arose not only between Japanese people and Koreans, but also among Koreans themselves regarding publicity. By examining these factors, this study delineated the difference between educational ideals and the real circumstances. The educational movement of Koreans residing in Manchukuo and Ahn Soogil’s novel Bukhyangbo(『北鄕譜』) are noteworthy because they expose the flaws in the educational policy of the era and the conflicting opinions of Koreans living in Manchukuo who sought to appropriate it.
