초록

위르겐 몰트만(1926-현재)은 자신의 창조론을 메시아적으로 전개하는데, 성서에서 새 창조(New Creation)는 종말에 일어날 것으로 약속된 메시아적 사건으로서, 태초창조를 전제로 가지며 완성을 창조의목적으로 제시한다. 또한 삼위일체 하나님의 역사적 구원 사건은 종말론적 새 창조 이미지를 구체화하는데 먼저, 예수 그리스도의 부활은 보편적인 세계 구원으로서의 새 창조를 약속하고 보증하며 다음으로, 거듭남도 새 창조 사건으로서 “시작하는 새 생명(Incipit vita nova)”을 나타내고 마지막으로, 칭의도 하나님의 의가 믿음 가운데죄인을 새롭게 한다는 점에서 새 창조 성격을 분명히 한다.
몰트만에 의하면, 창조 세계의 목적이자 완성은 하나님이 세계 안에충만하게 거주하는 것이다. 이를 위해서는 하나님의 자기제한으로부터의 해방이 선행되어야 하는데, 이 하나님의 해방을 통해 시간에서 영원의 전이(transition)가 생길 것이다. 그리고 “새 하늘과 새 땅” 은 영원(aeon)의 생명에 참여하는 하나님의 환경이 되지만, 새 창조의 때에도 피조물은 피조물로서의 자격을 그대로 유지할 것이다.
이와 같은 몰트만의 메시아적 창조론은 몇 가지 공헌점을 제공한다.
첫째, 하나님의 초월성을 미래 개념으로 견지한 것은 몰트만 신학의장점이다. 몰트만에게 하나님의 초월성은 강림의 미래(Adventus)로이해되고 진화론적이고 진보주의적인 역사 이해는 지양된다. 둘째, 20세기 후반부터 범세계적인 생태학적 위기 가운데 “안식일의 창조론”을 제기하는 몰트만의 창조론은 시의적절하다고 평가된다. 이것은 20세기 후반 창조론이 가진 독특한 특징이면서 몰트만 창조론의공헌점이라 평가될 수 있다.
이와 함께 몰트만의 메시아적 창조론은 다음의 제한점도 제공한다.
첫째, 몰트만은 미래에 대해 모호하게 낙관적으로 생각하는 문제점을 가진다. 몰트만에 의하면, 복음은 저항의 방법으로 하나님의 새로움을 드러내고 기독교적 종말론은 고난도 포함하지만, 역사의 종말은 약속된 새 창조이다. 이와 같이 고난이 현실에서 체험된다 하더라도, 낙관적인 미래가 확신될 때 고난의 현실은 쉽게 무시되고 방치되며 악용된다. 둘째, 메시아의 부활을 메시아적 새 창조의 첫 사건으로 이해하고, 모든 사람이 최후 심판이 아니라 메시아적 사건에 참여하기 위해 “죽은 자의 부활”에 참여할 것이라는 몰트만의 주장은 만유구원론적 종말론까지 이어진다는 문제점을 가진다. 그러나 성서는 분명히 “심판의 두 가지 결과(계 20:11-12)”를 기록하고 있다.
각종 생태학적 재난과 세계악으로 인한 암울한 상황 속에서도 하나님의 신실함과 초월성을 견지함으로써 “희망의 하나님(롬 15:13)”을말하는 몰트만의 신학은 우리에게 도전과 비판을 함께 제공한다. 이것이 몰트만의 메시아적 창조론에 대한 계속적인 연구와 대화가 우리에게 필요한 까닭이다.

영어초록

Jürgen Moltmann(1926-) deploys his doctrine of messianic creation which indicates that new creation in the scripture as the promised messianic event occurring in the end has first creation as its prerequisite and shows consummation as the goal of creation. Moreover, the triune God’s historical event of redemption shapes up the eschatological images of new creation in three ways. First, the resurrection of Jesus Christ promises and guarantees the new creation as the general redemption of the world. Second, regeneration as the event of new creation presents “Incipit vita nova,” which means that new life begins. Third, justification clarifies the feature of new creation in the point that God's righteousness renews the guilty through their faith.
According to Moltmann, the goal and completion of the created world is that God rests fully in the world. Before it is preceded the liberation from God’s self-limiting which results in the transition from time to eternity. And “a new heaven and a new earth” become God's environments participating in aeonic life, but the creatures still remain as the status of them at a new creation.
Moltmann’s doctrine of messianic creation gives two contributions. First, it is Moltmann’s merit that he grasps the God's transcendence with the concept of the future. It is understood as the Adventus of the coming and the understanding of the evolutionary and the progressive history are rejected by him. Second, his doctrine of creation, showing “the creative theory of Sabbath” in an era of the global ecological crisis, is evaluated opportune. This point is the unique feature of the doctrine of creation in the 20th half-second and the contribution of Moltmann’s doctrine of creation.
Meanwhile, Moltmann’s doctrine of messianic creation gives the following weaknesses. First, he has the problem that he obscurely thinks the optimistic future. According to him, the gospel reveals the God's newness in the way of resistance and the christian eschatology contains the sufferings but the end of the history is a new creation.
Though the sufferings are experienced in reality, the world of the sufferings is easily ignored, neglected, and misused on the conditions that the optimistic future is convinced. Second, his arguments, that the resurrection of the Messiah is the first messianic event of a new creation and the “the resurrection of the dead” is for all the people including the believers to participate in the messianic event not the Last Judgment, are connected to universalistic eschatology and they are questionable. But the scripture evidently says “double outcome of the Judgment(Rev 20, 11-12).” In spite of the gloomy situations of the various ecological calamities and the world-wide evils, Moltmann’s theology talking about “God of hope(Rom 15, 13)” by adhering to God’s faithfulness to the world and His transcendence over the world offers both a challenge and a criticism. This is what we need the continual researches and dialogues about Moltmann’s doctrine of messianic creation.
