이 연구에서 창세기 1-2장에 나오는 ‘에레츠(אֶרֶץ)’와 ‘아다마(אֲדָמָה)’ 용어 사용의 의미를 ‘시간성’과 ‘공간성’의 기준으로 파악해보고자 하였다. 시간성의 측면에서, 고대 그리스의 시간 용어 ‘카이로스와 크로노스’를 기준으로, 창세기 1:1-23(1-5일)은 ‘직접 창조의 시간’에 해당되어 ‘카이로스’의 시간에 가까운 신적 개입(구원), 창조, 탈세속성(탈논리성)과 관련 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 창세기 1:24-31, 2:4a-2:25(6일)은 ‘인간의 시간’으로 창의적 파괴성과 물질 순환적이며 자연법칙적인 성격으로 ‘크로노스’의 시간에 가깝다는 결론을 도출하였다. 땅에 대한 용어와 관련하여 창세기 1:1-23(1-5일)은 ‘에레츠’가 관련 있고, 창세기 2:4a-25(6일)에는 ‘아다마’의 사용이 집중되어 있음을 확인했다. 따라서, ‘에레츠’와 ‘카이로스의 시간’이 서로 관계성이 있고 그 교차점에 ‘하나님’이 있음과 ‘아다마’와 ‘크로노스의 시간’이 서로 연관성이 있고 그 중심에 ‘아담(인간)’이 있음을 알 수 있다.
이를 바탕으로, 공간성 측면에서 구약성경 내에서의 ‘직접 창조의 시기’는 표제 ‘하늘과 땅(창 1:1)’에 관련되어 ‘하나님’ 중심이 되고, ‘간접 창조의 시기’는 표제 ‘땅과 하늘(창 2:4b)’과 관련되어 ‘인간’ 중심이 되는 것을 확인했다. ‘직접 창조의 시기’에는 신적 임재와 관련된 공중(空中)의 공간성이 ‘하늘’, ‘운행하시니라’의 표현 등을 통해서 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다. 공간 시점(viewpoint)의 측면에서, ‘하늘’의 공간 시점이 ‘땅’의 공간 시점으로 변화한다는 점을 ‘주어의 전환’과 ‘공간 시점의 전환’을 통해 확인하였다. 이 과정에서 공간성 측면에서, ‘하나님’과 ‘하늘’의 공간 시점에 가까운 때(창 1:1-23)의 땅은 주로 ‘에레츠(אֶרֶץ)’가 사용되고, ‘아담’과 ‘땅’의 공간 시점에서는 ‘아다마(אֲדָמָה)’가 주로 사용됨을 확인하였다. 이는 시간성 측면인 ‘카이로스와 크로노스의 기준’으로 살펴본 2장과 그 내용이 유사한 것이다.
‘에레츠’는 카이로스의 시간, 즉 하나님의 직접 창조의 시간에 만들어졌다. 하나님은 이 카이로스의 시간을 주관한다. 아담의 후손인 히브리인들은 이 시간을 ‘에레츠’ 용어 사용을 통해서 회복되기를 기대한다. ‘아다마’에서 나온 ‘아담’은 ‘아다마’에서 나온 생물들에게 이름을 붙여 주고 ‘아다마’의 땅으로 돌아간다. 크로노스의 시간, 즉 하나님과 아담의 간접 창조의 시간 속에서 아담은 태어나고 죽는다. ‘아담’은 이제 태초의 직접적인 신적 개입과는 다른 양상으로 ‘크로노스’의 시간 속에서 세상을 관리한다. 히브리인들은 ‘아다마’의 한계를 알고 있는 것이다.
시간과 공간에 대해서 창세기 1-2장과 고대 그리스인의 대표적인 시간관인 ‘카이로스와 크로노스’를 기준으로 볼 때, 고대 그리스인들과 히브리인들 간에 최소한 ‘하나님’과 ‘인간’을 대상으로 한 사유의 연관성이 있었음을 추론할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study attempts to understand the meaning of the terms ‘erets(אֶרֶץ)’ and ‘adamah(אֲדָמָה)’ used in Genesis chapters 1-2, based on the criteria of ‘temporality’ and ‘spatiality’. From a temporal perspective, based on the Greek time terms of ‘kairos(καιρὸς) and chronos(χρόνος)’, it is observed that Genesis 1:1-1:23 (the first 5 days) corresponds to the time of ‘direct creation’, which is closely related to ‘divine intervention(salvation)’, ‘creation’, and ‘situation out of natural laws’,—in other words, in a similar manner to the concept of ‘kairos’. On the other hand, it has been concluded that Genesis 1:24-31, 2:4a-25 (the 6th day) corresponds to ‘human time,’ which is closer in meaning to ‘chronos’, with ‘a creative but destructive character’, ‘matter cycling’, and ‘a natural law-like character’. Regarding terms related to the land, it is found that Genesis 1:1-23 (the first 5 days) uses the term ‘erets’, while use of the term ‘adamah’ is concentrated in Genesis 2:4a-25 (the 6th day). Therefore, this paper argues that there is a relationship between ‘erets’ and the time of ‘kairos’ with ‘God’ being at their intersection, and that a correlation exists between ‘adamah’ and the time of ‘chronos’, ‘Adam(humankind)’ being at their common point.
It is also noteworthy that from a spatial perspective within the Old Testament, the period of ‘direct creation’ is related to the title "the heavens and the earth(Gen 1:1)" and centered around ‘God,’ while the period of "indirect creation" is related to the title ‘the earth and the heavens(Gen 2:4b)’ and centered around ‘humanity.’ In the ‘direct period of creation’, it is also noticed that ‘firmament spatiality’ related to ‘divine intervention’ is represented through expressions such as ‘the heavens’ and "hovering over the waters". In terms of ‘the spatial viewpoint’, it is confirmed through the ‘shift of the subject’ and ‘shift of spatial viewpoint’ that the spatial viewpoint from ‘heaven’ changes to that from the ‘earth’ in the process of creation. In this process, from a spatial perspective, it is confirmed that ‘the land’ is mainly referred to as ‘erets’ during the time period closer to the spatial viewpoint of ‘God’ and ‘heaven’(Gen 1:1-1:23), while ‘adamah’ is mainly used during the spatial viewpoint of ‘Adam’ and ‘the earth’ (Gen 2:4b ff.). This is similar to the finding that is observed in chapter 2 from a temporal perspective using the ‘kairos and chronos’ criteria.
‘erets’ was created in the time of kairos, which is the time of God’s direct creation. God controls this ‘kairos’ time. The Hebrews, the descendants of Adam, expect this time to be restored through the use of the term ‘erets’. The ‘Adam’ that came out of ‘adama’ gives names to the creatures that came out of ‘adama’ and returns to the land of ‘adama’. In the time of chronos, the time of the indirect creation of God and Adam, Adam is born and dies. ‘Adam’ now manages the world in the time of ‘chronos’ in a way different from that of the direct divine intervention which occurred in the beginning. The Hebrews know the limits of ‘adama’. Regarding ‘time’ and ‘space’, based on ‘Genesis 1-2’ and ‘kairos and chrons’ which form the representative view of ‘time’ of the ancient Greeks, it can be inferred that there was some relationship between the ancient Greeks and the Hebrews at least in their thinking about the concepts of ‘God’ and ‘human’.
