초록

이 연구는 『원고지』와 『屋外有熱流』를 중심으로 한·중 현대 실험극을 비교하여 고찰하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 실험극이란 전통 사실주의 극의 형식이나 내용을 거부하여 새로운 극 형식을 탐구하는 것을 뜻한다. 한국 현대 실험극은 본격적으로 1950년대 말기, 1960년대 초기에 나타났고 중국 현대 실험극은 1980년에 출현하였다. 현대 실험극은 전통 사실주의 극이 한국과 중국의 연극계에 차지하고 있는 지위를 흔들었다. 뿐만 아니라 한국과 중국의 연극 현대화에 기여했다는 데에 의의가 있다.
이근삼의『원고지』와 馬中駿 외 『屋外有熱流』은 한국과 중국 현대 실험극의 초기 대표 작품으로 주목을 많이 받았다. 두 작품은 인생의 진정한 가치와 의미에 대해 탐구하였고 현대 사회의 불합리 현상을 무대화하여 비판하였다. 두 작품은 전통 사실주의 극의 방식을 거부하고 초현실주의 기법과 상징주의 기법을 통해서 대본을 창작하였다. 그리고 전통 사실주의 극의 배우와 관객 간 ‘보이는 자’와 ‘보는 자’의 관계를 파괴하고 상호작용 형성을 시도하였다. 또한 음향, 조명 등 다양한 장치를 활용하여 관객에게 다차원, 다각도, 복합적인 무대를 보여주었다.
한국과 중국의 현대 실험극은 다양한 연극 체제의 특징을 융합하였다. 현대 실험극에서 표현주의극, 부조리극, 서사극의 특징을 드러냈다. 뿐만 아니라 극의 주제, 내용은 나라의 운명, 인간의 고통 등을 떠나 인간 자체로 전환하였다. 한·중 현대 실험극의 공통점이 많지만 차이점은 분명하다. 먼저, 20년의 시간 차이이다. 이것은 한국이 중국보다 먼저 서구 문명을 접한 결과이다. 다음으로 한국 현대 실험극은 전통 사실주의 극을 전면적으로 타파하였다. 반면에 중국의 현대 실험극은 어느 정도 전통 사실주의극에 뿌리를 두었다. 전통 사실주의 극의 뿌리가 지나치게 깊기 때문이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to compare early Korean and Chinese experimental theaters centered on “Manuscript Paper” and “A Warm Current Outside the House”. Experimental theater means exploring a new form of drama by rejecting the fixed form or content of the traditional realism theater. Korean modern experimental theaters appeared in earnest in the late 1950s and early 1960s, while Chinese counterparts appeared in the 1980s. Modern experimental theaters have shaken the status of traditional realism theaters by dominating the theater scene in Korea and China. In addition, it is meaningful in that the new theaters contributed to the modernization of plays in both countries.
Lee Keun-sam's “Manuscript Paper” and “A Warm Current Outside the House” by Ma Zhongjun have drawn much attention as the best-known early works of modern Korean and Chinese experimental theaters. The two works explored the true values and meanings of life and criticized the absurdity of modern society on stage. Both works created the script through surrealism and symbolism techniques, which is different from traditional realism theatres. They also destroyed the concept of "the ones being viewed" and "the viewers" of traditional realism theaters and attempted to create interaction with the audiences. They also used various tools, such as sound and lighting, to show the audience a multi-dimensional, multi-directional, and complex stage.
Overall, modern experimental theaters in Korea and China have combined the characteristics of various theatrical systems. The modern experimental play featured expressionism, absurdism, and epic drama. In addition, the theme and content of the play have focused more on humans themselves while moving away from a nation's predicament or a certain peoples' suffering. There are many things in common between Korea and China, but the differences are also clear. First, there is a time gap of 20 years between the two countries. This is the result of Korea's encounter with Western culture before China. Next, the modern Korean experimental drama completely broke down the traditional realism theater while modern experimental theaters in China are somewhat rooted in traditional realism; therefore traditional realism theaters cannot be forgotten overnight.
