니제르공화국 구르마체족의 통과의례 노래에 나타난 관계적 특성과 공동체사회 고찰 (A Study on the Relational Characteristics and Community in the Rite of Passage and the Song of Life of Gourmaché People in the Republic of Niger)

초록

서부아프리카에 위치한 니제르공화국의 종족사회를 이해하기 위해서는 그들이 지닌 전통적 사회 구조와 문화, 관계적 특성을 통한 공동체사회의 질서들이 어떻게 관련되어 있는가로부터 출발해야 한다. 특별히 니제르의 다양한 종족들 중, 구르마체족(Gourmaché People)이 지니고 있는 통과의례 속 전통 노래가 주는 의미를 재발견하는 것은 니제르의 관계적 특성을 통한 공동체 사회를 이해하는데 큰 도움을 준다.
아프리카인들에게 있어 노래와 춤은 삶 그 자체이며, 기회이자 미래 창조의 시너지이다. 더불어 노래와 춤은 그들 공동체의 정체성과 동질성을 찾는데 있어 중요한 요인이다. 전통적 통과의례와 연관된 노래들은 구르마체족의 공동체성을 독려하는 매개체로서의 역할을 수행한다. 이들은 자신들의 삶의 질을 위한 기회를 얻고자 이동하게 되는데, 이것은 그들의 위기이자 기회가 된다. 구르마체족의 이러한 이주와 정착의 고난 과정들을 극복하기 위한 노래와 춤은 종족사회의 형제애를 일으키고, 미래지향적 단일체제를 구축하는 마중물이다.
구르마체족의 전통 통과의례 속 노래는 ‘사랑하는 사람을 찾는 노래’와 ‘결혼 전에 자신의 가족들에게 자신의 남자친구를 소개할 때 부르는 노래’, 그리고 ‘장송곡’과 ‘전통 정결예식’ 등의 네 가지로 종족사회의 관계, 상호존중, 그리고 결속력 등이 담겨 있다. 먼저 ‘사랑하는 사람을 찾는 노래’는 사랑하는 사람을 찾는 인간의 마음을 담아내면서 공동체 사회에 공감을 제공한다. ‘결혼 전에 자신의 가족들에게 자신의 남자친구를 소개할 때 부르는 노래’는 한 사람을 새로운 문화 안으로 수용하려는 공동체의 관계성과 연관되어 있다. ‘장송곡’ 또한 ‘이 세상’과 ‘저 세상’, 그리고 하느님과의 ‘제의적’ 공동체로서 관계집합으로 결합됨을 보여준다. 끝으로 ‘전통정결예식’의 노래는 종족의 언어를 사용하여 다음 세대에게 누적학습을 통해 문화를 계승함으로써 개인의 문제뿐 아니라 종족 공동체와 가족 간의 결속감을 높여준다. 요약하면 구르마체족의 전통 통과의례 속 전통 노래들은 다양한 관계성 속에서 상호 결속감을 부여하는 원동력을 제공하며, 관계집합과 자기 결정력을 스스로 갖도록 하는 자율성을 제공한다.
그러므로 구르마체족을 향한 사회문화적 접근을 위해서는 그들의 사회적 변화를 관찰함으로써 그들을 이해하고, 그들과 눈길을 맞춤으로써 그들 종족 안에서 발생하는 문제들에 대한 개방적인 이해를 통한 접근이 필요하다. 더불어 구르마체족의 미래의 젊은 세대들의 변화를 위해서는 그들을 향한 시간을 투자하고 영적인 세계로 접근하도록 초대하고 기다릴 수 있어야 한다. 마지막으로 구르마체족의 공동체 사회의 관계집합의 경계이동을 통한 변화를 추구해야 한다. 이러한 모든 활동들은 구르마체족을 향한 깊은 관심으로부터 출발되어야 한다는 것은 자명한 일이다.

영어초록

In order to understand the racial societies of the Republic of Niger, located in West Africa, we have to start from the way in which the social orders are related with their traditional social structures, cultures, and the relational characteristics. Among the various races of Niger, it is a significance to rediscover the meaning of the passage ritual with the traditional songs of the Gourmaché people for understanding the community of Niger with the relational characteristics.
For Africans, song and dance are life itself, opportunity and synergy for future creation. In addition, they are important factors in finding the identity and homogeneity of the community. The songs of life associated with the traditional rites of passage serve as a medium to encourage the community of Gourmaché people. Gourmaché people move for opportunities to improve the quality of life itself, and then it is their crisis and chance. The song and dance to overcome the process of hardships for Gourmaché’s migration and settlement cause brotherhood in the community, and become the priming water constructing a future-oriented single system.
There are four songs in the song of life in the traditional passage ritual of Gourmaché: ‘the song looking for loving one’, ‘the song about when introducing her boyfriend to her family members before marriage’, ‘funeral march’, and ‘traditional purification’. These songs involve relationship of the ethnic society, mutual respect, and solidarity, etc. Firstly, ‘the song looking for loving one’ expresses sympathy to the community by showing the people’s hearts looking for loving someone. Secondly, ‘the song about when introducing her boyfriend to her family members before marriage’ is connected with the relationship of the community to accept one person into a new culture. Thirdly, ‘Funeral march’ also shows the union with ‘this world,’ ‘that world,’ and ritualistic community with god(Allah) as a set of relationships. Finally, the song of ‘traditional purification’ strengthens solidarity between ethnic communities and family members as well as individual issues by succeeding culture through cumulative learning to next generation with the language of the race. In sum, the songs in the Gourmaché’s traditional rites of passage provide the motive force to give mutual solidarity in various relationships, and autonomy to have the correlation sets and self-determination on their own.
Therefore, for socio-cultural approach to Gourmaché, we need to understand them with the observation of social changes, and to be close to problems arising from it with opened understanding by focusing their eyes. In addition, changes in the younger generations of the Gourmaché will be possible when they invite and wait for themselves to invest in their time and approach the spiritual world. Finally, it is also important to pursue changes through boundary moving of correlation sets of community of Gourmaché. It is clearly obvious that all of these works should be started with a deep interest in the Gourmaché people.
