<마장전(馬駔傳)>의 담화 구성 방식 연구 -박지원의 글쓰기 전략과 그 반성적 특질을 중심으로- (A Study on the Principle of Construction of Discourse in Majang-Jeon(馬駔傳, a Tale of Horse-Broker))

초록

일반적으로 「방경각외전(放璚閣外傳)」에 수록된 연암의 한문소설은 현실의 질서에 저항하는 반성적 인식을 전달하려는 의도로 읽힌다. 반성적 인식의 전달은 논증과 관련성을 맺는다. 동시에 연암의 텍스트는 다양한 글쓰기 전략을 구사함으로써 독특한 개성을 드러낸다.
특히 이 글의 분석 대상인 <마장전(馬駔傳)>은 논증적 글쓰기가 문학적 담화 구성의 원리를 통해 어떻게 독자와 소통하는지를 보여준다. 즉 문제적 대상에 대한 통찰과 반성이 일방적인 증명으로 그치지 않고, 허구적인 담화의 맥락 아래 다양한 인물들이 소통하면서 문제를 입체화․다각화시키고 있음을 알 수 있다.
구체적으로 액자 형식의 적극적 차용, 허구적으로 재구성된 대화 형식, 비유적 언어의 사용은 텍스트 분석에 있어 매우 중요한 문학적인 원리로 지적될 수 있다. ‘자서’와 ‘후지’는 현실에 대한 반성적 거리를 형성하면서 이 텍스트가 지향하는 해석의 방향을 설정한다. 대화는 그 자체로 문제적 기호에 대한 다각적 접근을 가능하게 만든다. 또한 일반적인 전(傳)의 규범과 전통을 위반함으로써 개별 역사성이 아닌 보편 담론을 지향하고자 한다. 이를 위해 반복적으로 사용된 역설과 반어는 기만적인 현실을 폭로하는 문학적 근거가 된다.
이러한 문학적 담화의 원리들은 두 가지로 이해될 수 있다. 즉 ‘자서’와 ‘후지’에서 제기된 추상적 비판의 논증 구조가 대화 형식이나 비유적 언어의 구조로 구체화되고 있다는 점이다. 또한 이는 다시 다양한 인물들의 발화를 통해 유의미하게 변주, 반복됨으로써 그 타당성 여부를 반성적으로 검토할 수 있다.
이상과 같은 작업은 박지원의 <마장전> 텍스트가 생산되었던 당대의구체적 현실에 대한 작자의 비판적 인식이 정당성을 획득해 가는 과정의 확인이기도 하다. 그러면서 동시에 반성적인 추론 과정을 구성 원리로 삼는 글쓰기의 일반적인 특질을 짚어볼 수 있으리라는 기대도 조심스럽게 제기하고자 한다.

영어초록

Ji-Won Park’s fictions are generally considered that it purports to convey its critical perception questioning and resisting to the existing order of reality. And his strategy of writing can be examined in two perspectives; delivering the critical perception is concerned with argumentative figures, and with all positive dimensions of literary discourse.
First of all, Majang-Jeon, the actual object of this study, shows how the argument communicates the virtual readers by constructing literary discourse. In this text the nature of argument, vision or reflection of a polemical object, calls for not the one-way demonstration, but the diversification of the object under the light of fictional discourse with some characters communicating.
It is pointed that the important literary principles in this text contains four elements: first, positive uses of frame forms, such as prologue and epilogue of the text, which can set out the critical distance from reality and entrench its interpretive meaning into very universal direction: second, from the diverse perspectives the dialogue form constituted by three participants can efficiently access to a problematic sign to expose its significance: third, this writing is to designate the universal discourse by critical using of traditional writing, Jeon(傳): fourth, paradox and irony which are used to exceed the boundary of traditional discourse and literary writing play their key roles to expose its unreasonable constraint.
These elements are classified to two levels. One is the relative correspondence between the structure of argument and of fiction. The structure of abstract criticism suggested in prologue and epilogue is getting specified as the dialogue form and rhetorical form developed in the text. And the other is rhetorical devices with ambivalence given by the characters’ locutions in variety and significance. It may give an opportunity to examine its literary meaning and validity.
Therefore, this study is to show how the narrator’s critical reflexivity of mundane reality is associated to the discursive strategy, and acquires his/her own critical meaning in the text, Majang-Jeon. And it would investigate the properties of complex writing which brought reflexive reasoning into the discursive context, in general.
