초록

본 논문은 일본 사가현립규슈도자문화관이 소장한 약 200여 점의 한국 도자기 컬렉션을 중심으로, 그 수집 경위와 소장품의 특징을 분석하고 한일 도자문화 교류의 양상을 고찰하였다. 2010년과 2023년 국립문화유산연구원과 국외소재문화유산재단의 조사 성과를 바탕으로, 이 컬렉션의 형성 과정과 문화적 함의를 다각도로 검토하였다.
먼저 소장품의 기증 경위와 기증자들의 성향을 분석하여 컬렉션 형성의 배경을 파악하였다. 이어 소장된 도자기들의 시대적, 기종별 분포를 조사하여 컬렉션의 특징을 도출하였다. 조사 결과, 이 컬렉션은 주로 20세기 중반 이후 일본 현지 수집가들의 기증으로 형성되었으며, 고려청자부터 근현대 도자까지 다양한 시대의 작품을 포함하고 있다. 특히 조선백자와 근현대 도자기가 대다수를 차지해, 20세기 초 일본인들의 수집 취향을 보여준다. 또한, 일부 근현대 작품들이 전통 도자를 모방한 것으로 확인되어, 당시 동아시아 미술품 시장의 특성과 수요를 보여준다.
본 연구는 이 컬렉션이 단순한 감상의 대상을 넘어 한일 간 도자문화 교류의 복합적 양상을 반영하는 중요한 사료적 가치를 지님을 밝혔다. 나아가 해외 소재 국가유산의 다층적 의미와 가치를 온전히 파악하기 위해서는 도자사, 미술사뿐만 아니라 문화인류학, 역사학, 박물관학 등 다양한 학문 분야의 통합적 접근이 필요함을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 근현대 한일 문화교류사의 한 단면을 생생하게 조명하고, 향후 한일 도자문화 교류 연구의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.

영어초록

This study examines the collection process and cultural implications of approximately 200 pieces of Korean ceramics housed in the Kyushu Ceramic Museum in Saga Prefecture, Japan. Based on the research findings of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage in 2010 and the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation in 2023, this paper comprehensively analyzes the formation process and cultural significance of this collection.
First, the study analyzed the circumstances surrounding the donation of the collection and the characteristics of the donors to understand the background of its formation. Subsequently, the temporal and typological distribution of the ceramics in the collection was examined to identify its defining features.
The findings reveal that this collection was primarily formed through donations from local Japanese collectors since the mid-20th century, encompassing a diverse range of works from Goryeo celadon to modern and contemporary ceramics. Notably, The collection, dominated by Joseon white porcelain and modern ceramics, exemplifies the collecting proclivities of Japanese connoisseurs in the early 20th century. Furthermore, the identification of some modern and contemporary pieces as imitations of traditional ceramics demonstrates the characteristics and demands of the East Asian art market during that period.
This study establishes that the collection transcends mere objects of appreciation, holding significant historical value that reflects the complex aspects of ceramic cultural exchange between Korea and Japan. Moreover, it proposes that a comprehensive approach incorporating various academic fields such as ceramic history, art history, cultural anthropology, history, and museology is necessary to fully comprehend the multilayered meanings and values of national heritage located overseas. Through this, the research aims to vividly illuminate an aspect of modern and contemporary Korean-Japanese cultural exchange history and suggest new directions for future studies in Korean-Japanese ceramic cultural exchange.
