진화미학에 기반한 지오 필릭 디자인(Geo-philic Design) 개념에 관한 연구 (Research on the Concept of Geo-philic Design Based on Evolutionary Aesthetics)

초록

(연구 배경 및 목적) 건축과 조경 디자인을 지형에 밀접하게 결합하려는 시도들이 나타나고 있다. 이러한 디자인 현상은 생태 공간의 가치에 대한 지향성을 강조하는 것으로 설명되고는 한다. 이는 관련 학문의 연구가 아직 디자인 개념으로 정의되지 않았기 때문으로 보인다. 본 연구는 그 원인을 디자인 영역에서 두뇌 진화가 인간의 행동에 미치는 영향에 관한 관심이 부족하기 때문이라고 추측하였다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 지오 필릭 디자인(Geo-philic Design) 개념을 정립하려 시도하였다. 이는 진화 심리학에서 제시된 바이오필리아(Biophilia) 개념을 기반으로, 이의 파생 개념으로서 지오필리아 가설(Geophilia Hypothesis)을 정의하고 증명하는 것이다. 지오필리아 가설은 인간의 미의식이 매력적인 지형을 찾는 경향을 가졌으며, 이러한 경향이 인간의 인식에 큰 영향을 미친다고 믿는다. 이러한 영향을 바탕으로 지오 필릭 디자인은 건축과 조경 공간과 지형의 관계에 대한 깊은 사고이다. 사람들이 지형과 상호작용하는 데 도움이 되는 복지 공간을 만들어 자연 세계와의 연결을 강화한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 첫째, 서지학적 분석(Bibliometric Analysis)을 통해 지오필리아 가설과 지오 필릭 디자인에 관련한 개념에 필요한 연구들을 모은 선행 연구들에서 핵심 요소와 관심 이슈를 찾아내고 그 차이점을 비교 분석하였다. 둘째, 기존 디자인 사례를 정리하여 건축과 조경 디자인에서 지오 필릭 디자인의 표현을 양식을 분석하였다. 셋째, 지오 필릭 디자인의 미적 구조를 진화미학적 관점에서 해석하였다. 마지막으로 과학적으로 검증된 선행 연구의 데이터를 이용하여 지오 필릭 디자인 개념 정립의 합리성을 검증하고 향후 디자인 방향을 제안하였다. (결과) 본 연구에서 제시한 지오 필릭 디자인 개념을 바탕으로 디자인 사례들을 분석하여, 지오 필릭 디자인이 원시시대 인간의 거주 활동을 융합한 지형을 형성하고, 이를 통해 형성된 조형을 주변 지형과 곡선화하여 조화시키는 것을 도출하였다. 이러한 조화는 진화미학적 특징을 보여준다. 또한, 지오 필릭 디자인 개념을 만족하는 디자인이 두뇌 보상 회로를 활성화하여 긍정적인 감정을 불러일으킴을 발견하였다. (결론) 지오 필릭 디자인은 원시 인간의 거주 활동 지형과의 적응적 특성을 밝혀냈다. 이러한 적응성은 지오 필릭 디자인에서 안전 감지 및 탐색 선호로 나타나며, 동시에 현대인의 미적 감각에 영향을 미친다. 이 주장은 두뇌 신경 활동의 실증적 지지에서 나온 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 지오 필릭 디자인 개념을 정립하고 합리성을 논증하여 다음 디자인에서 인간의 진화 심리를 응용할 기초를 마련했다는 데에 그 의의를 둔다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Attempts are being made to closely integrate architecture and landscape design into the terrain. This design phenomenon has been described as emphasizing an orientation toward the value of ecological space, which seems to be because the research of related disciplines has yet to be defined as a design concept. This research speculates that this is due to the need for more attention to the impact of brain evolution on human behavior in the design domain. Therefore, this research attempts to define the concept of geo-philic design. It is based on the concept of biophilia proposed in evolutionary psychology and defines and proves the geophilia hypothesis as a derivative. The geophilia hypothesis believes that the human aesthetic has a tendency to find attractive terrain, and this tendency has a significant influence on human perception. Based on these influences, geo-philic design is deep thinking about the relationship between architectural and landscape spaces and terrain. It creates well-being spaces that help people interact with the terrain, strengthening their connection to the natural environment. (Methods) This research first identifies the key elements and issues of interest in the previous studies that collect the necessary research on the concept of geophilia and geo-philic design through bibliometric analysis and compares and analyzes the differences between them. Second, the expression of geo-philic design in architecture and landscape design is analyzed by summarizing the existing design cases. Third, the aesthetic structure of geo-philic design is interpreted from an evolutionary aesthetic perspective. Finally, using data from scientifically verified previous studies, the rationality of establishing the geo-philic design concept is verified, then future design directions are proposed. (Results) Based on the geo-philic design concept proposed in this research, design cases were analyzed, and it was concluded that geo-philic design forms a terrain that incorporates the habitation activities of primitive human beings and harmonizes the formed form with the surrounding terrain by curving it. This harmony is characterized by evolutionary aesthetics. In addition, the authors found that designs that satisfy the geo-philic design concept activate the brain's reward pathway and evoke positive emotions. (Conclusion) Geo-philic design has revealed the adaptive nature of primitive humans' interaction with the terrain they inhabited. This adaptability manifests itself in geo-philic design as security sensing and exploration preferences while at the same time influencing the aesthetics of modern humans. This claim is supported by empirical evidence from brain neural activity. On this basis, this research is meaningful in that it established the concept of geo-philic design, demonstrated its rationality, and laid the foundation for applying human evolutionary psychology in the following designs.
