이강백 희곡에 나타난 ‘몸’의 재현 양상 - <칠산리>, <영자와 진택>을 중심으로 - (The Aspects of Representation of ‘Body’ on the Play of Lee kang-baek - Focussed on and -)

초록

지금까지 이강백 희곡의 독법으로 주목되지 않아온 방식인 ‘몸’을, 알레고리, 사회성, 정치성 등과 함께 이강백의 희곡이 의존하는 중요한 형식들 중 하나로새롭게 보려는 것이 이 글의 목적이었다. 이러한 문제의식을 토대로 집단과 개인의 길항관계에 ‘몸’이라는 항을 접목하여 살폈다. 이때 집단과 함께 등장하는희생자적 개인들, 특히 여성 개인의 존재는 이질적으로 재현된다. 여성 희생자들은 몸의 훼손이나 결여를 통해 집단이 지닌 죄를 모두 끌어안고 승화할 수 있는 신학적인 인물들로 그려지고 있기 때문이다. 그 과정에서 메를로-퐁티의 ‘몸- 주체’ 개념과 들뢰즈의 ‘빼기’ 개념에 기대어 논의를 진행하였다.
감각하는 몸-주체의 존재와 역할을 밝혀내는 데에서 논의를 시작한다. <칠산리>와 <영자와 진택> 모두 등장인물이 그의 대사를 하지 않을 때에도 무대에 존재하며, 합창을 통해 무대에서 일어난 사건에 대하여 부연설명하고 거기에 의미를 부여한다. 이때 의미의 부연과 해설은 구체적인 감각을 통해 이뤄지며, 이들은 세계와 불가분적인 몸을 가진 존재들로서 나타난다.
다음으로는 ‘내기’라는 조건 지어진 세계관 속에서 군중과 개인이 구별되는 지점을 살펴보았다. ‘몸’의 문제로 이를 보면, 독점적인 몸의 경험들을 집단의 경험으로서 균일화하는 작업과 ‘어미’/‘영자’를 여기에서 구별해내는 집단의 작업이이루어지며 ‘어미’와 ‘영자’의 ‘몸’의 차이는 내기의 요소로서 군중(그리고 관객) 앞에 전시된다.
결론적으로 군중-개인의 역학관계 또는 남성-여성, 강-약이라는 단일항으로만이강백의 작품을 파악하는 데에는 한계가 있다고 보았다. 이강백 희곡 속에서여성의 ‘몸’은 그 자체로 기호로 기능하고 있다. 특히 임신 즉 재생산의 가능성과 문화적 의미를 전제로 한 여성의 몸이 존재하고 전시될 때 몸의 결여와 훼손이 더욱 잘 나타나며, 이 결여와 훼손에의 의미부여를 통해 이강백 희곡이 정치성을 발현하는 시기를 거쳐 왔다고 보았다. 그렇다면 이는 정치성이 약화되어가는 작가의 한계가 아니라, 다른 방식의 발화라고 볼 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This article takes the issue of ‘body’ as one of the important forms that Lee’s plays relies on, along with Allegory, Sociality, and Politics.
The body is important in itself in how it relates to society in that it is a means by which it perceives and senses. In addition, approaching Lee Kang-baek with a problematic mind called ‘body’ will face one singularity: the separation of the individual’s body and the body of the crowd. The existence of victims, especially women, is different. Even though Lee’s play tries to capture an individual who is not buried in the group or the crowd, female victims are portrayed as figures who embrace and sublimate all the sins of the group through bodily damage or lack. In this article, two similar works, <Chilsan-ri> and <Yeong-ja and Jin-taek>, try to approach the question of how people relate to society or society.
The point is the presence and role of the body-subject. Both <Chilsan-ri> and <Yeong-ja and Jin-taek> are on stage when characters do not speak his/her lines, and choralize and explain the events on stage and give meaning to them. At this time, supporting and explaining meanings are made through specific and sensory experiences, which appear as beings with the world and an integral body. The focus of this chapter is on where individuals relate to society.
We look at the points where people and individuals are distinguished in the world-view under the condition of ‘bet’. As a matter of ‘body’ problems, it can be seen that the task of equalizing exclusive body experiences as a experience of one group and of identifying ‘mother’/‘yeong-ja’ here.
The difference of ‘mother’ and ‘yeong-gja’ is displayed in front of the crowd (and audience) as a body, as an element of a bet. Here, Deleuze’s ‘subtraction(soustraction)’ is likely to work.
The point goes back to the problem that there are limitations in understanding Lee’s work only with the term “crowd and individual” or with the single term “woman and man.” In Lee Kang-baek’s plays, the female ‘body’ is functioning in itself. In particular, the lack and damage of a woman’s body is more visible when there is a body in which the ability to conceive and give birth under the assumption of a social and cultural meaning of possible reproduction. Through this lack and damage, Lee Kang-baek’s play reveals the political character that sheds light on how the individual in the crowd becomes the weak one.
In conclusion, it is the intent of the article to take a step forward in the division of women and men into account what is described as weak or strong.
