초록

This research aimed at investigating formative characteristic of person image in the 5th century Goguryeo painting mainly with Deokheungri ancient tomb mural which belongs to early Goguryeo ancient tomb mural. Particularly, this research intended to mainly treat the formative characteristic that appears through express pattern of ideal person image of that period which appeared in Deokheungri ancient tomb mural tomb owner's portrait and 13-gun Taesudo.
This research intended to investigate the content whether 'non individuality of person through ideal painting' that appeared as one of overall esthetic characteristic of Goguryeo ancient tomb mural was due to insufficiency of understanding of person and technical expressiveness, or whether it expressed a new leader's image by reflecting religiously and socially ideal person image of that time on the tomb owner.
Portrait painting took a major part compared to other painting subject from Han(漢) time, the initial development stage of East Asia traditional painting until Wijinnambukjo period when the painting appeared which aimed at appreciation. Through painting, they intended to achieve previsional(鑑戒的) and instructive(政敎的) goal which delivers Confucian ideal and lesson, also, they aimed for recognizing good and evil through this. Painting reflects period aspect, ideological background, and esthetic consciousness of the period that the work was produced, better than any other art works, and generally reveals the culture of that period, Chinese painting reveals ideological and religious background of Buddhism, the foreign religion, including Taoism and Confucianism, etc., also, reveals politics, economy, society, and culture of the period that the work was painted as they were. In Goguryeo, decoration tomb, a foreign culture, was introduced, accordingly, idea and culture of that time came to form an important frame of Goguryeo ancient tomb mural by inevitably receiving the influence of China in the method of ancient tomb construction and selection of roadbed. Therefore, it can be said that the concept of painting that Confucianism suggested, which was still prevalent during the early 5th century Wijinnambukjo, when Deokheungri ancient tomb mural was constructed also appears in Deokheungri ancient tomb.
Deokheungri ancient tomb mural is known as an important ancient tomb that informs of the structure of early 5th century Goguryeo ancient tomb and expression form of mural, since the period(year 408) of it remains distinctly, also, the style characteristic of Deokheungri ancient tomb mural has a significance as a standard that represents 5th century Goguryeo ancient tomb mural style by succeeding tradition of 4th century Anak no.3 tomb mural. Therefore, it has an important meaning to determine formativeness of Korean ancient portrait painting based on the characteristic of Goguryeo painting, through this, it can be said to take a role to inform of the stream of Korean traditional portrait painting that is connected with portrait painting of the Joseon Dynasty, henceforth.
