리쾨르의 내러티브 이론을 통한 모던 정통주의“예수 해석학”극복을 위한 한 모색 (An Attempt to Overcome “Hermeneutics of Jesus” of Modern Orthodoxy through Paul Ricoeur’s Narrative Theory)

초록

이 논문은 정통주의(orthodoxy) 입장에서 리쾨르(Paul Ricoeur,1913-2005)의 내러티브(Narrative) 이론을 포스트모던 지평 위의“예수 해석학”에 적용할 때, 모던 정통주의 신학담론의 한계를 극복하는어떤 인식론적 함의가 있는지를 비판적으로 검토해 보려는 시도이다.
오늘날 모던“기초주의”(foundationalism) 인식론의 한계를 문제 삼는방법론적 대안들은 적지 않다. 대표적으로 데리다(Jacques Derrida)의 해체사상을 신학적으로 수용한 해체주의 신학, 일체의 개종주의(conversionism)를 거부하고, 오히려 제 종교 간의 상호 성장과 상호변혁을 추구하고 있는 다원주의 신학, 특정한 담론의 질서에 의한 악순환을 바로잡겠다는 민중신학, 남미해방신학, 여성신학, 생태계 신학등의 각종 해방신학의 지류들이 그것이다. 이러한 신학의 방안들은 각각의 문제제기에 대한 해법을 제안하고 있다는 점에서 주목된다.
그러나 이러한 대안적 담론들은 니케아와 칼케돈 신조 이래 아우구스티누스(Augustinus), 루터(Luther), 칼뱅(Calvin), 웨슬리(Wesley) 등을 거쳐 이어져 온, 이른바 정통주의 기독론의 방향에 근본적인 손상을야기한다는 점에서 한계를 갖는다. 즉 논자는 정통주의 기독론 계승의관건은“참 하나님이시고 참 인간이신 예수 그리스도는 모든 인간의 구원자가 되시기 위해 죽으시고 다시 살아나셨다”는 전제적 교의에 기초한 정체성을 견지하고 있느냐에 달려있다고 전제한다. 또한 논자는 이러한 정통주의의 기독론적 정체성은 모던 시대가 개막된 이래, “복음주의”(evangelicalism) 진영에서 가장 충성스럽고 일관되게 사수되었다고 가정한다.
그렇다면 문제는 무엇인가? 논자가 검토하고자 하는 것은 복음주의진영의 기독론적 교의의 핵심이 정통주의를 계승하고 있다는 점에 대해서는 이론의 여지가 없을지라도, 그럼에도 불구하고 복음주의 진영이개진하는“예수 해석학”과 관련한 기독론적 담론의 질서가 모던 기초주의 방법론의 인식론적 한계를 극복했는가에 대해서는 다양한 견해가가능하다는 것이다. 즉 논자는 이 시대의 복음주의 진영의 신학 담론의 질서가 인식론적 측면에서 모던 이전과 이후의 모든 시대를 관류하는 큰 맥락에서의 정통주의 기독론의 유일한 대변자가 될 수 있는지에대해, 그리고 포스트모던이라는 인식론적 새 지평 위에서 도전된 과제들에 대해 얼마나 적극적인 대안을 모색해왔는지에 대해 다소 회의적이다. 그 중 하나는 정통주의의 정체성을 견지한 입장에서의 예수 해석학에 대한 인식론적 영토 회복의 문제이다.
논자는 우선 복음주의 진영에게 정통주의의 정체성을 견지한다는것과 어느 시대, 어느 상황에서나 같은 해석학적 담론의 질서를 고집한다는 것의 의미를 구별해서 사고할 필요가 있음을 제안하고자 한다.

영어초록

This essay critically considers the epistemological implications of Paul Ricoeur’s Narrative Hermeneutics on the postmodern horizon,which is applied to Christology, that overcomes the limitation of the discourse of the modern orthodox theology. Orthodoxy holds to the identity of orthodox Christology based on premise preposition that “Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, died and rose again to save humankind.” This is a fact which cannot be compromised for all orthodoxy(evangelicals) of all generations. Nevertheless, the fact that evangelical camp today adheres to the identity needs to be distinguished from the significance of the interpretative discipline,which reiterates itself in any period and any circumstances. Ricoeur actively argues that the narrative hermeneutics is an alternative discourse that overcomes epistemological horizon of the modern foundationlism which is not free from the temptation of the propositional reductionism since Descartes.
First, Ricoeur considers two meanings to a text. One is the sense,which is the literal idea that is purely intrinsic in the text itself, and the other is the reference, which is the intention or truth value that the affects the reality. The main point is the emphasis on “the text centrality”;that is, the reference is always possible through the sense and is completed by the reading of the interpreter. Second, Ricoeur thinks that every temporal events for human are reconstructed by creative and irreducible mediating discourse, e.g., symbol, metaphor, or narrative.
In addition, circulations of these media always takes the three-s t e p hermeneutical circular system: Mimesis I(prefiguration)-M i m e s i s I I( c o n f i g u r a t i o n )-Mimesis I I I(refiguration). Third, for Ricoeur, the narrative is a good model of explaining about history. A historical narrative is clearly different from fiction, since narrative reconstructs the past using the traces of reality. However, these traces cannot reconstruct all of the past, and hence, the help of imagination is necessary;therefore, relation to the fiction is an inevitable. This is the nature of historical reality of the Gospel narratives as the reconstruction spaces of the Jesus events. Fourth, Ricoeur emphasizes distinction between two sides of the identity. One is “idem-identity”, which is permanent nature. The other is “ipse-identity”, which is flexible nature. If we do not keep in mind this distinction, we easily misunderstand or persist a certain theological discourse in a certain horizon of a generation, that is “ipse-identity”, to the permanent “idem-identity.”Truly, the orthodox Christology has encountered challenges of each generation and resulted the discourse of these days: “divinity versus humanity” of Jesus in the time of Church Fathers, the nature of the atonement in the middle ages, the range of the atonement and the controversy of Holy Communion in the time of Reformation, or the historicity of Jesus in Bible(historical Jesus versus Christ of faith) in the modern times, etc. The most important issues of nowadays is probably to justify the absoluteness of Jesus Christ confronting the challenge of the relativism and religious pluralism. In conclusion, the author argues that the contemporary evangelical camp should not only maintain the eternal values of the identity but also positively face the timely problems of each generation without fear or hesitation, through the narrative hermeneutics of Ricoeur. Naturally,the postmodern era demands the postmodern orthodoxy.
