초록

Korea and Algeria declared a "Strategic Partnership" during the state visit of Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun to Algeria in March 2006. Then the two countries established Korea - Algeria Task Force (hereafter the TF) to promote bilateral economic relationship. The TF, comprising specialists from the government and private sector of both countries, took charge of the task to discuss and prepare the strategies to promote bilateral economic cooperation.
This paper examines the activities of the TF during the last two years, and analyses the recent changes of bilateral economic relationship between Korea and Algeria. The baseline of the question is the recognition that the relationship between Korea and Algeria, which has been intensively pursued through the TF, is a special case of experiment in bilateral economic relationship of Korea. Based on this recognition, it tries to answer whether this experiment has led to a successful result, by analysing the recent trends of bilateral economic activities, including trade, construction, and investment. It concludes that the rapid expansion of bilateral trade and other activities between the two countries supports a positive evaluation of the experiment.
