세계주의의 편승이라는 ‘식민주의’와 도립적(倒立的) 내셔널리즘 — 『계간삼천리』와 내재성 문제를 중심으로 — (Colonies and Inverted Nationalism Called Theory of Cosmopolitanism – The focus on Intrinsic Problem and Gyegansamcheolli –)

초록

이 글에서는 『계간삼천리』를 중심으로 일본이 만들어낸 조선관이 갖는 ‘식민주의’ 성격을 분석했다. 여기서 식민주의의 문제란 세계화 담론에 편승하여 자국 중심주의를 재편하는 사상적 구조를 의미한다. 즉 중국이 중심이었을 때에는 세계사상으로서 중화주의를 받아들임으로써 조선을 열등한 존재로 재구성해냈고, 서구 열강의 등장에 부딫힌 경우에는 서구를 문명의 중심에 두고 중국과 조선을 열등한 존재로 하위범주화 하는 태도를 가리킨다. 정한론이나 탈아론, 그리고 후쿠다 도쿠조의 정체론이 조선관을 박제화하는 대표적인 것들이었는데, 그 내적 구조는 ‘동형적’이었다는 점을 밝혀냈다. 그리고 서구의 국민국가 등장과 내셔널리즘을 서구 제국주의와 자본주의 이데올로기로 간주하고, 서구 제국주의 침략에 대항하는 아시아의 내셔널리즘이야말로 저항정신의 발현이라고 받아들이는 점에 주목했다. 그리고 그 저항적 내셔널리즘을 기준으로 서구의 기독교적 보편을 수용하면서 다시 이를 기준으로 삼아 일본적 ‘젤로티즘’을 만들어내는 구조를 규명했다. 그것은 식민지지배의 기독교 전도에서도 양분되는 형태로 나타났는데, 그것은 지배자의 입장으로 보는가, 혹은 피지배자의 입장으로 볼 수 있는가의 차이에서 나온 내셔널리즘의 양상이었다. 그리고 전후 일본은 미국 민주주의의 수용이라는 보편주의에 편승하지만, 미국과 일본정부의 피억압민의 탈출을 위한 민중의 모습에 주목했다. 그것은 한국 김지하를 통해서 진정한 민중의 모습을 투영했고 그 내용을 일본에서 재수용하고자 했음을 밝혀냈다. 결국 서구 종교와 토착 사상의 융합을 통해 창조적 주체를 만들어지는 것이며 그리스도가 그러했듯이 억압과 고통의 순간을 견뎌 새로운 민족의 각성이 이루어진다는 점을 발견한 것이다. 이는 일본이 전후 새로운 국가를 창건하기 위해 만들어낸 프레임이었다. 일본이 획득한 세계적 시선은 시대적 유행 담론에 편승하여 일본을 본위로 세상을 재편하고 강화하는 조건들이 되었고, 개인의 주체를 공동체를 위해 희생하게 만드는 역설의 내셔널리즘이었다.

영어초록

This study examined the characteristics of the “colonialism” found in Japan’s view of Joseon by analyzing Gyegansamcheolli, a journal published by Korean residents in Japan during the Joseon period. This study also examined the ideological structure Japan used to reorganize nation-centrism by availing itself in globalization discourse.
Based on the ideological structure, Japan accepted Sino-centrism as a world theory and depicted Joseon as an inferior nation using Sino-centrism when China was regarded as the center of the world. On the other hand, Japan put China and Joseon under the category of inferior nations and Western civilization in the center when Japan was facing the rising of Western powers. Major theories that fixed Japan’s view of Joseon include Seikanron, Datsu-A Ron, and Chosun Stagnation Theory by Fukuda Tokuzo, and this study found that these theories had the “same” internal structure. This study noted that Japan regarded the emergence of nation-states and nationalism in the West as ideologies of the Western imperialism and capitalism, accepting the idea that Asia’s nationalism was the manifestation of resistance spirit as Asia protested the invasion by the Imperialist West.
This study also investigated the structure in which Japan created the Japanese “Zealotism” based on what was created when Japan accepted the Christian universalism of the West based on the resistant nationalism. This appeared in two forms in the Christian mission in colonies ruled by Christian countries, and the division into two forms was the manifestation of nationalism and the difference in two positions: the position of the ruling and the position of the ruled. After the wars, Japan followed the universal acceptance of the US democracy. This study projected the genuine people on them through Kim Jiha, a Korean poet playwright, and found that some people in Japan attempted to accept the content. This study found that, according to Japan’s idea a creative subject is finally created through the combination of Western Catholicism and indigenous thought and that the people achieves a new awakening after enduring suppression and pain as did Christ.
It was a frame created by Japan to establish a new nation after the wars. This study found that Japan’s world views served as the conditions for reorganizing the world from a self-centered view and strengthening the world views by availing itself in popular discourses of the time, and that its world views were a contradictory nationalism, which made individuals sacrifice themselves for the community.
