백제 무령왕릉 묘지석의 氣朔術 검토와 『宋書』 元嘉曆 사용에 대한 재론 (A review on Gisaksul of the memorial stone of King Muryeong and use of the Yuanjia calendar shown in )

초록

『周書』 백제전은 ‘用宋元嘉曆’라고 소개했다. 1972년에 발굴된 백제 무령왕릉의 유물 중에 무령왕과 왕비 사망일 등이 표기된 묘지석이 발견되었다. 이에 이들 몇 몇의 날짜를 단서로 백제의 원가력 사용을 입증하고자 했던 노력이 역산학적으로 이루어졌다. 이 연구 결과로 백제는 중국 남조 劉宋(420~479)의 하승천이 만들었던 元嘉曆(445~509)을 받아들인 이후, 멸망할 때(660)까지 이를 사용했다고 알려져 왔다.
2000년 후반에 들어와서 무령왕릉 묘지석의 해석을 원가력만으로 한정한 것이 역산학 측면에서 아직 불충분한 견해임이 지적되었으며, 동시에 중국 남조 梁(502~557)의 조충지가 찬진한 大明曆(510~589)의 역법이 오히려 백제 무령왕릉 묘지석 역일에 적용될 수도 있다는 개연성이 제기되기도 했다. 무령왕릉의 묘지석만을 가지고 백제가 어떤 역법을 사용했다고 판별하기란 쉽지 않다.
필자 또한 원가력의 역산술이 묘지석의 역일과 부합하다는 이유만으로 백제가 해당 시기뿐만 아니라 백제의 멸망 시까지 반드시 원가력을 사용했다고 보았던 그간의 견해에 대해 동의하지 않는다. 즉, 묘지석에 표기된 역일과 원가력의 역산술의 부합 여부가 가치 판단에 있어서 절대적이라기보다는 상대적일 수도 있음에 유념할 필요가 있다. 실제 백제의 역일과 원가력상의 역일이 같다는 점은 백제가 원가력을 사용했을 것이라는 단지 하나의 가능성일 뿐이다. 만약 조충지의 대명력에 의해서도 묘지석의 역일이 부합된다면 상황을 판단하는 데는 보다 더 신중해야한다.
이 글을 통해 원가력과 대명력에 의해 산출된 삭일의 값이 무령왕릉 묘지석에 표기된 삭일이 모두 일치했음을 확인했다. 이를 통해 백제와 남조와의 대외관계를 염두에 두고, 무령왕의 재위 기간 그리고 국왕과 왕비의 사망과 장례일을 살펴본다면 원가력뿐만 아니라 백제의 대명력 수용 가능성도 전혀 배제되어서는 안 된다고 본다. 백제의 원가력 수용이 원가력 행용 시기에 이루어졌음을 전제한다면, 대명력 수용 시기도 대명력의 행용 기간과 관련이 깊다. 이로써 사료에 기재되지 않았다는 사유로 대명력의 유입 가능성 또한 열어두지 않으면 안 될 듯하다.

영어초록

In Baekje-jeon, 『Zhoushu』, there is a description, “... uses the Yuanjia calendar of Song (‘用宋元嘉曆’)”. The relics of the tomb of Baekje King Muryeong excavated in 1972 include the memorial stone showing King Muryeong’s and his queen’s deathday. Based on the clue of a few days shown in the memorial stone, there was a research trial to prove that Baekje used the Yuanjia calendar from a view of calendrical science. As a result, it has been said that Baekje introduced the Yuanjia calendar (445∼509) made by He Chengtian during Liu Song(420∼479) of the Southern dynasties, China and used that until its downfall(660).
In late 2000, there raised a question of limiting the interpretation of the memorial stone of King Muryeong to the Yuanjia calendar from a view of calendrical science, and appeared a probability that the Daming calendar (510∼589) made by Zu Chongzhi of Liang, the Sourthern dynasties, China (502∼557) might be applied to the calendar in the memorial stone of King Muryeong in Baekje Kingdom. It is difficult to judge that Baekje used the certain calendar with few records in the memorial stone of King Muryeong.
This study does not agree to the existing view that Baekje used the Yuanjia calendar until its downfall only because of the fact that the system of the Yuanjia calendar corresponds with that of the days in the memorial stone. It is required that the fact the calendrical day in the memorial stone corresponds with that of the Yuanjia calendar is relative, not absolute for value-judgement. Actually, the fact that the calendric system Baekje used was the same as that of the Yuanjia calendar is just a possibility that Baekje kingdom might use the Yuanjia calendar. If the calendar day shown in the memorial stone corresponds with that of the Daming calendar by Zu Chongzhi, we need more careful approach.
This research confirmed that the first day of the lunar month calculated by using not only the Yuanjia calendar, but also the Daming calendar corresponds with that shown in the memorial stone of King Muryeong. The research result shows that it is possible that Baekje introduced both the Yuanjia and Daming calendar, considering the period of King Muryeong’s reign and his and his queen’s deathday and funeral day in the context of the relationships between Baekje and the Southern dynasties. If it is premised that Baekje introduced the Yuanjia calendar during the period when it was extensively used, the introduction of the Daming calendar also should be related to the period when it was widely used. Thus, we should be open to the possibility that the Daming calendar would be also introduced to Baekje, even if not recorded in historical records.
