초록

‘시무(時務)’는 대표적인 정론(政論) 한문산문의 소재로서, 상당수가 소차류(疏箚類)를 통해 전개되었다. 소차는 왕을 청자로 설정하여, 시사적인 사안을 설득적 수사와 논리적 전개로 서술하는 정치적 글쓰기이며, 정형화된 문체 양식 안에서 작자의 신분, 시대 상황에 따른 시무 인식, 진언 의지 등이 텍스트의 성격을 규정짓는 장르라고 할 수 있다. 본고에서는 16-17세기 문집 소재 소차류의 시무론 전개의 서술적 특징을 살펴, 조선시대 소차류 산문의 지형을 재구해보고자 하였다.
16-17세기는 수차례의 전란, 인조반정 등의 급박한 정국의 흐름 속에 시무에 대한 격렬한 논의가 진행된 시기였다. 이에 따라 전란의 상황을 수습하기 위한 정책을 논하거나 정치적 입장을 논박하는 글들이 문집에 다수 수록되어 있다. 이에 본고에서는 이 시기의 시무 표제 소차류를 검토하여, 시무론의 전개에 나타나는 내용적 특징, 전략적 수사와 글의 구성 양상 등을 살폈다.
이를 통해 해당 시기 시무소에 군정 제반에 대한 논의가 증가하고, 전후 재건과 민심 수습 방안 등 실무 중심의 내용 비중이 높아지는 가운데, 핍진한 설폐(說弊)와 구폐책의 제시가 주를 이룬다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 또한 국가의 존망을 결정하는 급무가 대두되던 전란이나 정권 교체의 시기의 쟁점적 사안에 대한 주장의 근거로, 실정의 비판과 대안 제시를 위한 경세 지식이나 비유적․은유적 논거로, 역사적 전고의 적극적 활용이 두드러진다는 점을 확인하였다.

영어초록

The term shimu (時務, current affairs) is a representative subject in political discourse written in classical Chinese prose, with many of these discussions presented through socha-ryu (疏箚類) prose. Socha (a memorial to the throne) is a political form of writing addressed to the king describing current issues with persuasive rhetoric and logical development. Within this standardized writing style, the author’s social status, the historical context, and their awareness of urgent state matters and intent to offer advice to the king shape the nature of the text, making it a distinctive genre.
This paper aims to reconstruct the landscape of memorial prose in the Joseon Dynasty by examining the descriptive characteristics of discussions on current affairs found in collections of literary works from the 16th and 17th centuries. These centuries were marked by intense debates on state matters, driven by the urgent political climate shaped by multiple wars and significant events such as the Injo Restoration. Consequently, many writings in literary collections from this period discuss policies to address the aftermath of wars or debate political positions. In this study, I examined memorials from this period that focus on current affairs, analyzing their thematic characteristics, rhetorical strategies, and structural composition.
The analysis revealed that, rather than focusing on the ruler’s moral cultivation or Confucian statecraft, these writings increasingly engaged in discussions of military governance and practical solutions, such as post-war reconstruction and measures to stabilize public sentiment. The primary focus was on addressing urgent issues and offering practical solutions to systemic problems. Furthermore, it was noted that during times of war or regime change, when urgent matters concerning the survival of the state came to the forefront, these writings prominently employed historical precedents as a basis for criticizing the current situation and proposing alternative solutions, often utilizing metaphorical and allegorical arguments as part of their rhetorical strategies.
