한말 중기의병 격문류 연구 (Study on sorts of War Manifestos during the Middle period of Korean Righteous Armies at the late Yi-dynasity)

초록

본 연구는 우리나라 근현대 전쟁사에서 중요한 시기로 손꼽히는 한말 중기의병 활동기(1904년 5월～1907년 7월)에 작성된 격문류를 검토한 것이다.
2장에서는 중기의병 격문류 42종의 목록을 제시하고, 격문류의 양식․연도별 분포․작자를 대략적으로 고찰하였다. 격문류의 양식은 ‘通文’․‘書’․‘檄文’․‘布告文’ 등으로 다양하다. 연도별 분포를 살펴보면 1905년에 격문류의 수가 폭발적으로 증가하였음을 살필 수 있다. 작자의 출신은 유생․관인이 혼재하며, 학문적․지역적 교유를 매개로 연대를 결성하였다. 전기의병으로 활약한 이력이 있는 작자는 11인 중 6인이다.
3장에서는 중기의병 격문류의 주제를 ‘민족적 단결 투쟁’․‘이념적 雪恥 투쟁’․‘정치적 자립 투쟁’․‘경제적 해방 투쟁’의 네 가지 유형으로 분류하고, 각각의 내용과 수사를 고찰하였다. 한말 중기의병은 대한제국의 군사통치권․어업권․통신권․외교권 등을 박탈한 일제에 반발하여 봉기하였으므로, 일제의 내정 간섭에 반발해 봉기한 전기의병과는 사태의 심각성과 투쟁의 수준이 달랐다. 따라서 문필 항쟁의 수단인 격문류도, 전기의병 격문류에 비해 더 ‘강화된 항전 논리와 선전성’을 갖출 필요가 있었다.
일제의 정부 제어와 민중 탄압이 가속화되자, 중기의병은 일제의 폭력을 고발하고, 일제에 협력하는 반역 세력을 규탄하며, 민족의 단결과 자유 주권의 회복을 도모하였다. 그들이 격문을 통해 제기한 민족적․이념적․정치적․경제적 의론에는 당대 지식인의 위기의식과 저항의식이 반영되었다.

영어초록

This study examines the sorts of war manifestos written during the middle period of Korean righteous armies at the late Yi-dynasity(may 1904-July 1907), an important period in Korea's modern and contemporary war history.
In Chapter 2, presented a list of 42 types of the sorts of war manifestos written during the middle period of Korean righteous armies, and briefly looked at the style, distribution by year, and author of the sorts of war manifestos. The style of the sorts of war manifestos is diverse, such as ‘Tongmun(通文, notice)’, ‘Seo(書, letter)’, ‘Gyeogmun(檄文, war manifesto)’, and ‘Pogomun(布告文, declaration)’. If you look at the distribution by year, you can see that the number of the sorts of war manifestos increased explosively in 1905. The author includes both students of Confucianism and officials, and they formed an alliance through academic and regional exchanges. Among the 11 authors, 6 have a history of active in the middle period of Korean righteous armies.
In Chapter 3, the issues of the struggle of the Korean righteous army in the mid-period were classified into four types: ‘struggle for national unity’, ‘struggle for ideological revenge’, ‘struggle for political independence’, and ‘struggle for economic liberation’, and the contents and rhetoric of each were examined. The Korean righteous armies in the mid-period at the late Yi-dynasity rose up against the Japanese colonial rule, which deprived the Korean Empire of its military rule, fishing rights, communication rights, and diplomatic rights. Therefore, the severity of the situation and the level of struggle were different from the case of the Early Righteous Armies that rose up against Japan's interference in internal affairs. And the war manifesto, a means of literary resistance, also needed to have more ‘strengthened resistance logic and propaganda functions’ compared to the early righteous armies’ war manifesto.
As Japan's control of the government and oppression of the people accelerated, the mid-period Korean righteous armies denounced the violence of the Japanese imperialists, condemned the rebel forces that cooperated with the Japanese, and sought to restore national unity and freedom and sovereignty. The national, ideological, political, and economic debates they raised through the war manifesto reflected the sense of crisis and resistance of the intellectuals at that time.
