팔선회(八仙會)의 수계(修禊)와 『팔선루집(八仙樓集)』의 편찬 (Studies on the Sugye of “Palseonlu” and the Compilation of “Palseollujip”)

초록

『팔선루집(八仙樓集)』은 2018년 11월 25일 KBS1에서 방송된 제1149회 「TV쇼 진품명품」을 통해 처음 일반에 공개된 필사본 유일본이다.
『팔선루집』은 월하, 동정춘, 상림춘, 월중매, 옥호춘, 월하선, 소운 등 여덟 명의 기생이 지방에서 한양에 올라와 이웃하여 살며 돈독한 벗이 되고, 팔선루(八仙樓)에서 수계(修禊)를 하고 시회(詩會)를 열며 “팔선회(八仙會)”라 칭할 정도로 친밀하게 지내다가, 팔도(八道)에 있는 각자의 고향으로 돌아가 흩어진 후에도 서로를 그리워하며 시를 지어 부치고 우정을 나누는 모습을 담고 있다. 『팔선루집』은 조선시대의 기생의 우정을 생생하게 확인할 수 있는 중요한 자료이다.
또 『팔선루집』은 이제까지 문학사에서 알려지지 않았던 기생 작가들, 기생의 한시, 기생의 문집의 존재를 알려주는 중요한 자료이다. 『팔선루집』의 주인공인 여덟 명의 기생은 모두 개인 문집을 가진 시인들이었다. 이에 『팔선루집』을 통해 기생 작가, 기생의 한시, 기생의 문집이 지금까지 알려진 것보다 훨씬 많았다는 사실을 직접적으로 확인할 수 있다.
『팔선루집』의 구성은 전반부는 계회시첩(稧會詩帖), 후반부는 연주시집(聯珠詩集)이 연상되도록 편찬 기생들의 시집이다. 전반부는 사대부 남성들의 계회시첩 혹은 계회도가 담고 있는 내용과 형식을 따라 구성된 것으로 보인다. 전반부의 편찬은 월하와 소운이 주도하였다. 후반부에는 마치 한 집안의 맏이부터 막내까지의 시집을 차례로 묶은 연주시집이나 세고처럼, 여덟 명의 기생 개개인의 시집에서 시를 뽑아 나이 순서대로 배열하였다. 팔선회의 막내 소운은 자신들을 “의리로는 벗이고 정으로는 형제와 같다”고 표현하였는데 이 말이 곧 이 시집 전체의 편찬방향과 통하는 듯하다. 후반부의 편찬은 미산거사와 소운이 주도하였다팔선회의 의도와 지향이 잘 드러나도록 『팔선루집』을 편찬하는 데에 깊이 관여한 인물은 미산거사(眉山居士)이다. 그는 팔선 중 막내인 소운의 연인이었다. 미산거사는 팔선회가 자신들의 우정을 기록으로 남기도록 적극 후원하였다. 또 그는 작가 팔선, 작품 『팔선루집』이 사람들에게 전승되고 평가될 수 있도록 기록을 하고 후원을 하였다. 그는 『팔선루집』의 편찬과정에서 중요한 패트론 역할을 하였다.
현재까지 『팔선루집』과 같은 형태의 기생의 한시집은 발견된 예가 없다. 본고는 조선후기에 있었던 여덟 명의 기생의 모임인 팔선회, 팔선회 구성원의 우정과 지향, 『팔선루집』의 구성과 편찬을 주도한 미산거사의 역할 등을 밝혔다. 본고는 조선후기 기생의 우정, 문화, 예술 공동체의 모습과 그들의 패트론에 대한 이해를 깊게 할 것이다.

영어초록

Palseollujip is the only manuscript that was made public through Korean Broadcasting System’s “TV Show Jinpummyeongpum” on November 25th 2018. Up until now, there has been no other case of excavation of gisaeng’s Chinese-poem collections similar to Palseollujip.
Palseollujip contains poems of eight gisaengs such as Wolha, Dongjeongchun, Sangnimchun, Woljungmae, Okochun, Wolhaseon, Soun, each hailed from different corners of the country, living in Hanyang as neighbors, then later became close acquaintances. The eight named themselves “Palseon”, which translates to “eight-fairies” and named their circle “Palseonhoe” which translates to “the circle of eight-fairies”. Palseollujip exhibits Palseonhoe’s sugye and poetic gatherings at Palseonlu, as well as its members’ affection and longing for each other after Palseonhoe was dissolved. Palseon, longing for each others’ companies, wrote poems to each other even after its members returned to their families, scattered around the peninsula. The compliatory of Palseollujip associates its first half with Gyehoesicheop, and the other half with Yeonjusijip. During its compilation its editor combined “Nanokeonjip” in its appendix, a poetic works of Nanok who was not a member of Palseonhoe despite of its invitation. “Misangeosa Sopaja” took a crucial role in Palseollujip’s compilation. Misangeosa Sopaja, who had a romantic relationship with Palseonhoe’s youngest member Soun, had written the preface and the epilogue of the collection. Also as a patron, he recorded Palseonhoe and took an effort to pass on the stories of Palseon. Uncho’s poetry circle, a cultural and artistic community founded by the giseang Uncho in the early 19th century, made many scholars suspect that there were obviously abundant numbers of cultural and artistic communities like Uncho’s due to the social, cultural and artistic transformation during that time. And Palseollujip evidently proved that the assumption stands corrected.
Palseollujip has brought gisaeng’s poem and its culture into the light., which remained undiscovered until Palseollujip’s apperance. It is a direct historical evidence that gisaeng poets, Chinese-poems of gisaengs, collections of those poems had much more popularity than it was previously suggested. Palseollujip is also a crucial record to study Gyehoe, Gyehoesi, and the solidarity among gisaengs. This paper investigates the followings; Palseonhoe, the cultural circle of eight gisaengs, Palseonhoe’s members and their solidarity and friendship, Misangeosa’s role and meaning in Palseollujip’s compilation, as well as the direction Palseonhoe took as a community. This study may deepen the understandings of gisaeng culture, gisaeng’s solidarity and their relationships, cultural and artistic communities during the late Chosen dynasty, as well as patrons of those communities.
