루쉰과 한용운의 자유, 월경(越境)의 정치학 (Freedom and The Politics of Transgression in Lu Xun and Han Yong-un)

초록

이 논문은 루쉰과 한용운 비교 연구의 여러 주제 가운데 하나인, 필
연성(必然性)의 득오와 자유, 주변인 의식, 월경의 정치학에 대해 고찰
한 것이다. 불교인으로서의 만해와, 비종교인으로서의 루쉰은, 기본적
으로는 모두 불교적 세계관을 내재화시키고 있으며 불교적 세계관의
출발점인 만물변화(萬物變化)의 법칙, 제행무상(諸行無常)의 원리를 철
저하게 깨닫고 있었다. 그것은 존재의 필연성에 대한 통찰이며 득오(得
悟)이기도 하다. 루쉰과 한용운이 자신의 신념을 지키면서 자유자재로
싸울 수 있었던 것은 존재의 비애와 허무를 극복한 데서 가능했던, 속
세로 부터의 자유, 세상사 고통으로부터의 자유 같은 것을 체득한 데서
가능했다. 그들은 그러한 정신적 높이에서 구국운동, 혁명운동, 문화운
동 등 현실참여의 운동을 지속했다. 또한 그 두 사람은 당시의 보수적
인 문단 권력과 지식인 집단에서 비주류에 위치했는데, 이로부터 나온
‘주변인으로서의 의식’과 그러한 의식에서 가능했던 저항의 에너지가,
두 사람이 혁명가로서의 간고한 삶을 살아가게 만든 주요 동력의 하나
로 작용했다. 다른 한편, 루쉰이 구사했던 봉건수구의 권력 앞에서의
현란한 처세술과 정치적인 행동의 방법과, 일제의 시퍼런 칼날과 감시
속에서 한용운이 구사했던 신출귀몰한 처세와 유연한 운동의 방법론은
경계와 경계를 넘나드는 ‘월경(越境)의 정치학’이란 면에 고찰했다.

영어초록

This paper is an examination of several themes in the
comparative study of Lu Xun and Han Yong-un: awakening and
freedom from inevitability, consciousness of marginal beings, and
politics of transgression.
Both Han Yong-un, a Buddhist monk, and Lu Xun, a
non-religious person, interiorized the Buddhist worldview and knew
its fundamental principles of “all things must change” and “nothing
is the same.” This was an insight into and awakening from the
inevitability of existence. In a time of confusion and absurdity, when
all established value and order had collapsed, Lu Xun and Han
Yong-un fought without restriction, while keeping their conviction.This was possible because they overcame the disillusionment and
futility of existence by attaining freedom from the mundane life and
freedom from worldly pains. From their spiritual height, they
actively participated in national movements, revolutionary
movements, and cultural movements. They were outside the
mainstream and conservative groups of writers and intellectuals of
the period. But it was also their position that gave rise to the
'consciousness of marginal beings' and the energy of resistance;
their position functioned as an important motive in their difficult life
as revolutionaries.
Lu Xun's brilliant life and political activities in the face of feudal
and conservative powers, and Han Yong-un's magnificent life and
activism in the face of Japanese empire's surveillance, can both be
examined from the perspective of ‘politics of transgression.’ Lu Xun
threw his enemies into confusion and kept himself in anonymity by
constantly relocating his living and hiding places and using
numerous pseudonyms. He freely crossed over dangerous boundaries
and carried out his political and social criticism. Han Yong-un, too,
avoided arrests and surveillance and participated in social
movements by travelling around numerous temples and worldly
spaces. Although their political activism brought constant strain,
uncertainty, humiliation, and danger, it also enabled them to lead a
revolutionary life without despair or digression from reality.
