포석 조명희 작 <이쁜이와 룡이>의 혁명적 낭만성 (Revolutionary Romantic Emotion of the Cho, Myeong-hee's Work)

초록

1894년에 태어나서 파란만장한 일생을 살았고 열정적으로 세상에 저항하다가1938년 5월 11일 밤 11시에 비극적 최후를 맞이한 포석 조명희는 한국문학의문제적 작가 중의 한 사람이다. 대체로 포석 조명희에 대해서는 첫째, 식민지 치하의 현실인식에서 비롯된 민족주의 작가라는 견해54) 둘째, 초기의 감상성을 극복하고 반제국주의와 계급투쟁을 선도한 사회주의 작가라는 상반되는 두 견해가있다. 이 두 견해는 양립불가능(incompatible)한 것이 아니라 낭만성과 혁명성이라는 정조와 정서가 교직(交織)된다는 점에서 양립가능하다. 필자는 이런 관점을가지고 조명희의 1928년작 <이쁜이와 룡이>를 통하여 조명희 문학이 낭만주의의 성격이 있고 낭만성의 정조가 있음을 분석했다. 아울러 민족주의 사상 그리고 마르크스주의에 입각한 계급투쟁 의식과 서정성, 낭만성, 감상성 등의 정조(情調)가 중요함을 논의했고, 그런 정조는 혁명적 민족주의(revolutionarynationalism), 비판적 사실주의, 사회주의적 사실주의(social realism). 혁명적낭만주의(revolutionary romanticism) 등이 복합적으로 드러난다는 결론에 이르렀다.

영어초록

In this paper, I will discuss revolutionary romanticism of Cho,Myeong-hee‘s literary works through <Iboonyi and Yongyi> which waspublished in 1928. I will also analyze the characteristics such as nationalism,class struggle, lyricism, romance and sentimentality in his novels. Finally, Iwill reach a conclusion that these characteristics are revealed as criticalrealism, revolutionary nationalism and revolutionary romanticism, which areall part of social realism. This doesn't mean that all the literary works of Cho,Myeong-hee are revolutionary romanticism. However, I think there isrevolutionary romanticism in Cho, Myeong-hee’s literary works in the writingmethodological perspective.
In Cho, Myeong-hee‘s literary works, different kinds of emotion have beencombined together. These are grudge, passion, love, humanity, distress,sorrow, escapism, hostility, mysterious, hope, dream, transcendencephenomenon and longing. The work we need to focus on for this perspectiveis <Iboonyi and Yongyi>. I would say that text layers are formed in threeways; lyricism, descriptivism and idealism. I also say that writing methodologyoriginates from critical realism and revolutionary romanticism.
However, as we can see at <Iboonyi and Yongyi>, the author enters himselfinto the story and speaks in his own voice unnaturally. For this reason, thereal author becomes the implied author, and narrator simultaneously. Thismeans that the author Cho, Myeong-hee's mind was much too urgent andpassionate due to his patriotic eagerness. His spiritual and emotionalimminence is anger toward the Japanese imperialism and the tragic reality ofJoseon Korea under the rule of Japan. The overconsciousness distorts the structure of novel and destructs the story line. However, Cho, Myeong-heeindulged in extraordinary passion and resisted Japanese imperialism. Hisliterary works has been devoted and dedicated to the independent of hisnation. Even though he died tragically like his novel, he had let a distinctivemilestone on the Korean literary history.
