    초록

    The purpose of this study is to appropriate some ideas for the education of Korean classical music by resorting to Confucius‘s music theory. The findings of this study is as follows;First, the deficiency in the education of Korean classical music in Korea today is attributed to the lack of indebt discourses or efforts to establish theories about it. With the development of our own educational philosophy, we will be able to put the unlikely reality and policy of Korean classical music education into perspectives. Many problems inherent in the current curriculums of Korean classical music education are caused not only by instructors of Korean classical music, but also by the policy makers and authors of textbooks who lack a solid educational philosophy. Their educational philosophy will affect the minds of teachers of Korean classical music.
    Second, Korean classical music must be taught in schools today according to some guiding credo that could offer the bases for teaching activities. Why must Korean classical music be taught in schools and what kind of materials must be used and how should they be instructed? A serious thought should be given to these questions. In the current textbooks for Korean classical music education in elementary and middle schools in Korea, 90% of their contents are concerned with folk music (popular Korean music). This alarming phenomenon must be remedied. In other words, in the process of selecting teaching materials of national Korean music, Korean classical music should not be overlooked. This idea is in accordance with Confucius's philosophy that music exerts a profound influence on the formation of human disposition.
    Third, in order for the teachers of Korean classical music to prepare and execute their curriculums properly and without adhering excessively to the conventional ideas or their own impulses, they need to accomodate the traditional and Asian perspectives of music and applying them selectively. This study expects to make a contribution to the developing of balanced music textbooks and proper teaching methodology for Korean classical music and Korean folk music.
