지산 배종호 철학의 형성 - 입장과 방법론 - (A Study on the Philosophy of Jisan Bae Jong-ho: Focused on the Philosophical Perspective and Methodology)

초록

이 논문은 지산 배종호의 삶과 학문을 통하여 입장과 방법론을 중심으로 그의 철학적 문제의식의 형성과 정립에 관하여 고찰한 글이다. 이를 통하여 동양철학의 위상을 서양철학과 대등하게 제고시켜 놓았을 뿐만 아니라 한국성리학사를 서양철학적 문제의식과 방법론으로 정립시켜 놓은 그의 철학적 업적에 대한 올바른 평가를 할 수 있을 것이다. 이 논문에서 고찰한 내용은 다음과 같다.
첫째 유소년기의 호기심으로부터 시작된 그의 문제의식과 동양철학적 문제와의 인연을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 경성제대 철학과에 입학하게 된 경위와 철학과에 입학하여 서양철학을 공부하며 철학적 문제의식과 방법론을 형성하게 된 경위를 그가 이수한 교과목 분석과 담당교수의 철학적 문제의식을 통하여 추론하여 보았다. 이러한 고찰과 추론의 결과, 그는 도쿄제국대학 철학과의 학풍을 복제한 듯 옮겨 놓은 경성제대 철학과 교수들의 철학적 영향을 크게 받았다. 특히 미야모토 카즈요시와 타나베 주조 교수 등은 유럽 유학을 통해 학습한 신칸트학파 특히 독일 바덴학파의 신칸트학파 사조를 생생하게 전하였다. 그리고 간접적이지만 교토학파의 다나베 하지메의 『철학통론』이란 책의 논리적 전개에 감명을 받은 영향도 가미되어 그의 한국유학 이해를 위한 철학적 문제의식과 방법론을 정립하였음을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 서양철학도였던 그가 동양철학 전임교수가 된 직후 집필한 철학개론 류 저술을 통하여 서양철학적 방법론으로 동양철학의 문제를 이해할 수 있도록 철학적 지평을 열어주었으며, 동시에 그의 노력을 통하여 동양철학을 서양철학과 대등한 위상으로 격상시킬 수 있는 초석을 놓아 주었음도 살펴보았다.
이러한 고찰을 통하여 풍우란의 『중국철학사』와 배종호의 『한국유학사』에 나타난 철학적 체계의 연원은 신칸트학파의 대표자인 W. 빈델반트가 인물 중심이나 시대 중심이 아닌 철학적 개념과 문제의 쟁점 전개를 중심으로 전개로 파악한 철학사 서술체계의 영향을 받은 것이었으며, 배종호는 리기·성정의 문제를 중심으로 변증적 논리 전개 방식으로 『한국유학사』를 전개한 것이었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

This thesis examines the formation and establishment of his philosophical problem consciousness, focusing on his philosophical perspective and methodology through the life and study of Jisan Bae Jong-ho. In this study, it will be possible to properly evaluate his philosophical achievements that not only raised the status of eastern philosophy on par with western philosophy, but also established the history of Korean neo-confucianism as a western philosophical problem consciousness and methodology. The contents considered in this paper are as follows.
First, we looked for the connection between his problem consciousness and eastern philosophical problems, which began with his curiosity in his youth. Second, we examined how he entered the department of philosophy, Keijo(Gyeongseong) imperial university and how he developed a philosophical problem consciousness and methodology while studying western philosophy. As a result of these considerations and reasoning, the philosophy professors at Keijo university, who transferred the academic style of the department of philosophy at Tokyo imperial university, conveyed the neo-kantianism, especially the southwestern (Baden) school of Germany, through their study in Europe, and he was greatly influenced by it. Since then, it was confirmed that he was deeply influenced by the Kyoto school's academic style and established his philosophical problem consciousness and methodology while being indirectly inspired by the book, Philosophy General Theory. Third, he opened up a philosophical horizon so that he could understand the problems of eastern philosophy with western philosophical methodology through his work on a philosophical introduction written after becoming a professor of eastern philosophy, and at the same time, through his efforts, he elevated eastern philosophy to a level equivalent to western philosophy.
Through the above consideration, it was found that the origins of the philosophical system that appeared in History of Chinese Philosophy by Fung Yu Lan and History of Korean Neo-Confucianism by Bae Jong-ho were influenced by the philosophical history narrative system that W. Windelband, in particular, grasped through the development of philosophical concepts and issues.
