초록

다윈의 진화론은 시간의 화살을 강조한다는 점에서 뉴턴의 근대 물리학과 전적으로 다르다. 다시 말하자면 뉴턴의 근대 물리학은 시간의 화살을부정하며 시간의 공간화와 연관된 가역적인 영원불변성을 주장하는 본질주의를 바탕으로 한다.
이러한 본질주의의 기원인 서구 전통 형이상학과 기독교에 관하여 진화론은 과학적인 층위에서 비판적인 태도를 보여준다. 이 글은 과학적인 층위에서 생겨난 다윈의 진화론을 통해 존재론의 층위에서 서구 형이상학의극복변형을 시도하는 역사비판적인 존재론의 의미를 규명한다. 이러한 극복변형의 대표적인 예로는 헤겔과 마르크스가 시도한 역사 변증법과 하이데거와 푸코 등이 추구한 역사 해체론을 들 수 있다. 전통적인 본질주의에 반대하여 이들이 감행한 극복변형을 살펴봄으로써 진화론의 존재론적 맥락을 이해한다. 이로써 이들 철학자들의 철학적 정신과 다윈의 과학적 정신이본질주의 비판이라는 측면에서 서로 만나는 가능성을 제시한다.
한마디로 ‘존재론적 전환’이라는 문제틀에서 실체의 존재론이 역사비판적 존재론, 즉 진화 존재론으로 바뀌고 있는 현대 존재론의 방향성을 이해하려고 시도한다.

영어초록

Darwin’s theory of evolution speaks of the arrows oftime(depth of time) that change from simple single-celledorganisms to complex organisms like humans. Evolution isentirely different from Newton’s modern physics in that itemphasizes the arrows of time. In other words, The latter isbased on essentialism, which denies the arrows of time andclaims the invariable eternity associated with the reversiblespatialization of time.
With regard to Western traditional metaphysics andChristianity, namely the origin of this essentialism, thetheory of evolution shows a critical attitude at the scientificlevel. This article examines the significance ofhistorico-critical ontology that attempts to overcome theWestern metaphysics (Überwindung der Metaphysik) at thelevel of ontology through Darwin’s theory of evolution thatemerged at the scientific level. Representative examples ofsuch overcoming transformation include the historicaldialectic attempted by Hegel and Marx and the historical deconstruction theory pursued by Heidegger and Foucault.
This study tries to understand the ontological context ofevolutionary theory by looking at the transformations theyhave made against traditional essentialism. This suggests thepossibility that these philosophers’ ontological ethos andDarwin’s scientific one meet in terms of a criticism ofessentialism .
In a word, we can understand the direction of modernontology, in which the ontology of the substance istransformed into historico-critical ontology, that is,evolutionary ontology, in the framework of ‘ontological turn’.
