몽유록의 공간들과 기억 - '역사적 공간'을 배경으로 선택한 작품을 중심으로- (The Study on Memories and Spaces in Mongyurok)

초록

몽유록은 과거 역사적 사건과 인물에 대한 기억의 소환, 그 기억의 재구성,그리고 재구성된 기억을 안정화하고자 하는 작가의 정치적 욕망을 서사화한것이다. 본고에서는 몽유록의 이러한 역사적 성격을 '몽유록의 공간들'에 주목하여 고찰해 보았다. 논의한 작품은 윤계선의 「달천몽유록」, 작자미상의 「강도몽유록」, 최현의 「금생이문록」, 신착의 「용문몽유록」 등이다. 이들 작품에 등장하는 '역사적 공간'은 인물과 사건에 대한 기억의 매개가 되어 몽유자가 입몽하는 계기를 만들어준다. 입몽 후의 '몽유 공간'은 역사적 인물과의 만남, 토론과 논쟁, 공감과 이해를 거치면서 작자가 전달하고자 하는 우의를 창출해내는공간이 된다. 그리고 몽유자가 각몽 후 다시 현실로 돌아와 마주한 공간은 재해석, 재맥락화된 의미가 부여된 공간으로, 이제 독자에게 '역사적 공간'은 기억을 환기시키는 공간만이 아니라, 그 공간에 부여된 의미를 함께 환기시키는공간이라 할 수 있다.
윤계선의 「달천몽유록」에서의 탄금대, 「강도몽유록」의 강도는 패전한 장수, 수많은 전란의 희생자들을 떠올리게 하는 '기억의 공간'이다. 그러나 작자가 재구성한 '기억의 서사'를 경유함으로써, 나라를 위해 자신을 버린 충신들의 의리와 절개를 추모하는 공간으로, 전란이 일어난 원인이 무엇이고, 그 책임을 누가 져야 하며, 앞으로 어떻게 해야 하는가에 대한 문제를 제기하는 공간으로의미화되었다고 하겠다. 한편 최현의 「금생이문록」과 신착의 「용문몽유록」에서의 공간들은 작가의 재지적 기반과 연계되어 있는데, 학연, 혈연, 지연 등을통해 형성된 작가의 '사적 기억'이 지역사회의 '집단적 기억'에 대항하며 書院배향, 邑誌 편찬과 같은 기억의 안정화 작업으로 이어지고 있는 모습을 확인할수 있었다.
독자들은 이제 역사적 공간에서 어떤 기억을 떠올리게 될까? 몽유록 작가가소환한 기억을 통해 공간에 새롭게 부여된 의미를 떠올리게 되면, 이 공간은현재와 과거, 그리고 산 자와 죽은 자, 공적 기억과 사적 기억, 대문자 '역사'와'대항기억'이 다성적인 목소리를 내는 공간으로 재구성된다. 이들 기억 중 어떤기억이 공론을 얻어 역사적 사실로 기록되는 것인지의 문제는 여전히 관심을가지고 지켜보아야 한다. 몽유록도 그런 기억의 서사 중 하나였던 바, 오늘을사는 우리가 공간, 기억, 그리고 그 공간을 통해 만들어지는 기억의 서사에 관심을 가져야 하는 이유도 여기에 있다.

영어초록

Mongyurok is the recall of memory of historical events and characters,reconstitution of the memories, and the narration of the writer's political desire to stabilize the reconstituted memories. This paper examined such historical feature of Mongyurok, focusing on 'the spaces of Mongyurok'. The works that were discussed in this paper include Yun Gye-seon's Dalcheonmongyurok, Gangdomongyurok of unknown authorship, Choi,Hyeon's Geumsaengimunrok, and Shin Chak's Yongmunmongyurok. The 'historical space' in these works becomes a connection of memories for historical characters and events and provides an opportunity for the character named Mongyuga having the dream. After having the dream, the 'space in the dream' becomes the space which creates the allegory that the writer wants to convey while passing through encountering historical characters, debates and arguments, sympathy and understanding. And the space where the Mongyuga faces after awakening from the dream and returning to reality is the space that is given reinterpreted and contextualized meaning, so it can be a space that reminds the reader not only of the memory of applicable events and characters but also of the meaning given to the space.
Tangeumdae in Yun Gye-seon's Dalcheonmonyurok, and Kangdo in Gangdomongyurok are the 'space of memory' that recalls a defeated commander and numerous victims of war. But it can be said that it be comes the space where the loyalty and fidelity of the loyalist who sacrifices himself for the country are commemorated and the space where the questions of what caused the war, who takes the responsibility, and what should be done are raised. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the spaces in Choi, Hyeon's Geunsaengimunrok and Shin, Chak s Yongmunmongyurok are connected with the writers' foundation of life, and the writers' 'personal memory' that was formed through school relations, kinship and regionalism are led to stabilization work of memories such as setting up memorial halls for confucianist services to honor distinguished scholars and statesmen and compilation of town history while resisting the 'collective memory' of the community.
The readers concurrently recall the public memory and the personal memory in the historical space when they realized writer's allegory. The question of which of these memories obtains public opinions and are recorded as historical facts should still be watched with interest. Mongyurok was also the narrative memory and this is the reason why we should have interest in the space, memory, and the narration of memories that are made through these spaces.
