시간의 개념이 명품디자인 소재로 적용된 파티나에 관한 연구 (A Study on Patina: The Application of Time as a Luxury Design Material)

초록

연구배경 : 제품디자인 개발 기술이 발전함에 따라 CMF디자인의 중요성이 점차 높아졌다. 기존의 제품디자인 개발과 양산에 적용되었던 소재의 개념과 생산방식으로는 소비자의 기대를 만족시킬 수 있는 기회가 제한적이다. 따라서 다양한 CMF디자인 요소발굴과 소재개발이 필요하다.
연구방법 : 시장 선행성(先行性)이 있는 명품의 정의를 시작으로 파티나 정의와 개념정리를 문헌조사와 사례연구를 통해 진행한다. 파티나를 CMF디자인 소재로 사용하여 ‘시간성(時間性, Zeitlichkeit)’을 명품 요소로 적용한 사례 조사를 통하여 문제정의를 한다. 시간성에 의한 가치 창출을 목적으로 파티나에 대한 지속적 연구와 이를 이용한 CMF디자인 소재 개발 가능성 제안이 이번 연구의 목적이다.
연구결과 : 명품의 기획과 제작에는 일반 제품 개발에 적용되는 기준을 뛰어넘는 가치를 창출하기 위한 다양한 CMF디자인 요소발굴이 필요하다. ‘시간’이라는 요소는 명품을 기획하고 디자인하는 과정에서 보다 풍부한 디자인 소재를 제공한다. 이를 통하여 명품의 가치를 강화하는 ‘독점성에 의한 가치’와 ‘희소성에 의한 가치’를 기획하여 디자인에 적용할 수 있다. 애착감의 표현을 가능하게 하는 경험적 소재와 차별화의 극대화를 위한 초월적 소재로서 ‘파티나’는 ‘시간’을 디자인에 적용할 수 있는 매우 효과적인 방법이다. 파티나 개념은 시간성을 담아낼 수 있는 새로운 디자인 소재로서 종전과는 다른 차원의 CMF디자인 개발을 가능하게 하는 중요하고 유용한 디자인 소재이다.
결론 : 명품의 가치는 시대에 따라 변화해왔다. 과거와 차별되는 새로운 명품가치는 명품 소비를 통한 사용경험에 의한 정신적 가치 충족에 있다. 명품 구성 요소들을 만족시킴과 동시에 변화하고 있는 소비자들의 새로운 욕구를 만족시킬 수 있는 감성적 사용경험을 담아낼 수 있는 디자인 요소개발이 필요한 이유이다. 디자인 소재로서 파티나를 적용하기 위해서는 CMF지침서(CMF document, 시방서)에 파티나 소재에 대한 정보가 명시되어야 한다. 파티나 소재 정보에는 특정 소재를 계획적으로 제품개발에 적용할 수 있도록 ‘마감의 마모’와 ‘재질의 변형’ 등의 내용이 명시되어야 한다. 이번 연구를 통하여, 제품을 사용하는 횟수와 시간에 따라 변화되는 파티나 성질을 담아낼 수 있는 지속적인 소재 연구의 필요성을 제안한다.

영어초록

Background : As product design developing technology developed, the importance of CMF design gradually increased. It will not be easy to satisfy the consumers' expectations with a concept and production method of materials applied to the current product design development and mass production. Therefore, it is necessary to discover and develop various CMF design materials and elements.
Methods : This research begins with the definition of luxury goods because it plays a part in the preceding market. After that, the research process goes through literature review, historical concept changes, and case studies of the definition of patina. Finally, the research process investigates cases where patina was used as a CMF design material for luxury goods. Through this, the purpose of this study is to propose the possibility of developing CMF design materials aiming to create value with time.
Result : It is necessary to discover various CMF design elements to create values that exceed the standards of general product development in planning and manufacturing luxury goods. The element of time provides a variety of design materials in the process. Through this, it is possible to plan and apply 'value by exclusiveness' and 'value by scarcity' to enhance the value of luxury goods. As an experimental material that enables the expression of attachment and original material through the maximization of differentiation, 'patina' is an effective way to apply 'time' to design. The patina concept is a new design material that can capture time and is an essential and useful design material that enables the development of a higher level of CMF design.
Conclusion : The new luxury value that differentiates it from the past lies in satisfying the spiritual value. This is why it is necessary to develop design elements that can satisfy the components of the luxury and, at the same time, contain the emotional experience of the user that can satisfy the new needs of changing consumers. In order to apply patina as a design material, the particular patina materials need to be specified in the CMF document. In the material information of patina, contents such as ‘wear and tear of finish’ and ‘deformation of material' are specified so that materials can be applied to product development intentionally. Through this study, I propose the need for continuous material research that should define patina properties.
