착고와로 본 고구려 묘상 건축물의 성격 (A Study on the Characteristics of Buildings Builton the Tombs of Goguryeo by chakgo-tile)

초록

고구려는 중국 동북지역에서 한반도의 중부지역에 이르기까지 넓은 영역을 가진 고대국가로서, 중원제국의 영역에 인접해 역사적으로도 깊은 관계를 유지했다. 이러한 고구려는 적석총과 같이 주변 국가들과는 다른 특징의 묘제가 존재하는 것으로 알려져 있고, 여기에는 당시 사람들의 사생관(死生觀)이 반영되어 있다. 그러나 고구려의 무덤 조영에 관련된 문헌기록이 적어서 묘제의 특징이나 고구려인들의 죽음에 관한 관념에 대해 얻을 수 있는 정보는 매우 한정적이다. 근년, 고구려의 유적에 관한 발굴조사가 진전됨에 따라 고구려의 무덤에서는 다양한 고고유물들이 발견되었다. 그 중에는 기년명(紀年銘)이 확인되는 기와류도 발견되어 실년대(實年代)를 부여할 수 있게 되었기 때문에, 고구려 무덤의 조영시기를 판단하는 자료로서 중요시되고 있다. 이처럼 고구려 무덤에서 출토된 기와류에 관한 연구는 거의 편년연구에 입각해 무덤의 피장자를 밝히는 것을 주 목적으로 하고 있는 반면, 무덤에서 출토된 기와류의 용도에 관한 규명에는 인색했다.
본 연구에서는 집안지역에 소재하는 적석총에서 출토된 착고와를 중심으로 무덤에 사용된 기와의 용도 및 고구려 묘상 건축물의 양태에 대해 검토해 보았다. 연구 대상으로 삼은 착고와는 지붕을 올린 건축물 이외의 용도를 생각하기 어렵다. 따라서 고구려의 무덤에서 착고와가 출토되는 것은 묘상 건축물의 존재를 입증해 준다. 문헌기록만으로는 고구려 묘상 건축물에 관한 당시의 양상을 파악하기 어렵지만, 무덤에서 출토된 착고와의 용도를 통해 고구려 당시의 묘제에 관한 변화 양상까지도 유추할 수 있었다. 즉 고구려에서 묘상 건축물이 축조되기 시작한 것은 대략 3세기 이후부터 5세기까지로, 6세기에는 더 이상 고구려에서는 묘상 건축물이 축조되지 않았고, 망자에 대한 사후 의식이 지상에서 무덤 내부로 옮겨지는 고구려 묘제의 새로운 변화양상을 추정할 수 있다.

영어초록

Goguryeo was an ancient country with a wide area from northeast China to the central region of the Korean Peninsula. Goguryeo is known to have traditional tombs with characteristics different from those of neighboring countries, such as tombs, and the tombs of Goguryeo reflect the people's views on life at the time. However, as there are few documentary records on the tombs of Goguryeo, the information that can be obtained through textual materials on the characteristics of the tombs and the view of the life of the Goguryeo people is very limited. Recently, with the progress of excavation research on the ruins of Goguryeo, various archaeological relics have been discovered in Goguryeo tombs. It is regarded as important as a data to judge the time of the construction of the Goguryeo Tombs. However, research on tiles unearthed from Goguryeo tombs has been largely based on historical research, and the main purpose is to reveal the buried tombs, whereas the investigation of the use of tiles excavated from tombs has been stingy.
This study was to clarify archaeologically the possibility of the existence of tomb structures in Goguryeo tombs and the reasons for the excavation of roof tiles from Goguryeo tombs, focusing on the chakgowa (착고와) excavated from the giant Jeokseokchong(적석총) of Goguryeo. The chaggowa(착고와) was used for the construction of buildings with tiled roofs. Among the tombs excavated roof tiles from Jeokseokchong(적석총) in Goguryeo today are Usanha(우산하)3319, Seodaechong(서대총), and Cheonchuchong(천추총). It is difficult to grasp the aspects of the buildings built on the tombs of Goguryeo at the time only from the literatures. However, through the purpose of using the chakgowa(착고와) excavated from these tombs, even the changing aspects of the tomb system in the Goguryeo era can be inferred. Therefore, the excavation of chakgowa(착고와) from Goguryeo tombs proves the existence of structures built on tombs.
It is understood that structures built on these tombs began to be built in Goguryeo from about the 3rd century to the 5th century, and no more tombsang structures were built in the 6th century. This is most likely the result of changes in the tomb system introduced in Goguryeo society. and it was possible to estimate a new change in the Goguryeo tomb system in which consciousness of the dead was transferred from the ground to the inside of the tomb.
