고려 개경의 경제 공간과 교통로 (Economic space and Traffic routes of Gaegyeong in the Goryeo Dynasty)

초록

개경은 고려의 국도이다. 국도는 한 나라의 중심지로서 많은 인구가 상주하거 나 외국 사신 혹은 상인 등이 몰려드는 곳이기도 하였다. 이를 위해 국도로 향하 는 교통이 발달하게 되었고, 도성 내에도 많은 거주 공간 및 이를 연결하는 도로 가 복잡하게 연결되었다.
이 글에서는 개경이 국도로 정해지기까지의 역사성 및 공간 구조의 중심성과 방사형 도로의 형성 과정을 추적하려고 한다. 이를 위해 개경의 공간 구조를 일 찍부터 존재했던 구시가지와 국도로 정해지면서 새롭게 구축된 신시가지로 구분 하였다.
개경의 공간 구성은 그 역사성을 담고 있었고, 기존의 자연 촌락에서 새로운 국도로 성장하는 과정을 모두 수용하였다. 개경은 고대사회부터 형성된 자연 촌 락과 후고구려의 도성 및 고려 국도로 건설되면서 조성된 새로운 시설들을 모두 포함하였다. 이는 곧 구시가지와 새롭게 조성된 신시가지의 복합형 도시였음을 보여주고, 그 제도적 편제가 5부방리였다. 즉 북부와 중부·동부의 일부분으로 이루어진 신시가지, 중부·동부의 남쪽 지역과 남부·서부로 이루어진 구시가지 로 구조화되었다.
국도 개경은 궁궐 구역이 서북 지역으로 치우침으로써 도시의 중심이 남대가 와 십자가로 귀결되었다. 이들 도로를 중심으로 경제 공간 즉, 시전이 형성되었 다. 시전은 단순히 시장 기능뿐만 아니라 여론이 집합되고 교통로의 중심 등 다 양한 기능을 하였다. 그리고 수창궁이 이들 지역에 조성됨으로써 왕실의 권위를 보조할 수 있었다. 따라서 경제 공간은 국도의 중심부였으며, 도성의 정체성을 보여주는 중요 공간이었다.
개경의 교통로는 구시가지와 신시가지의 혼합으로 이루어진 개경의 특성을 담 고 있었다. 관도·남대가·십자가를 중심으로 신시가지가 형성되었고, 자연 촌 락 지역이었던 구시가지에는 다양한 미로형의 도로들이 혼재되었다. 국도 개경 의 모든 도로는 십자가로 집합되었고, 그에 따른 개경의 공간은 십자가를 중심으 로 한 방사형의 도시 형태로 구조화되었다. 따라서 현종대의 나성이 건설되면서 25개 성문이 조성되는 배경에는 신시가지와 구시가지의 도로들을 모두 반영한 결과라고 할 수 있다.
결국 개경의 경제 공간과 교통로는 국도의 공간 구조를 이해하는 기초가 되며, 개경의 파괴와 복구 과정에서의 중심성을 유지할 수 있는 토대였다. 하지만 그 실체에 다가가기가 어려운 현실을 고려하면, 각 주제에 대해 좀 더 세분된 연구 가 필요하다.

영어초록

Gaegyeong is the capital of the Goryeo Dynasty. The capital was also the place that a large population lives or foreign envoys or merchants crowd as the center of a country. For this, transportation toward the capital got to develop and there were many living spaces and busy roads which connect them to one another even in the capital city.
This thesis tries to track ‘Historica’ until Gaegyeong was decided as the capital, ‘Central- ity’ of the spatial structure, and the formation process of radial roads. For this, the spatial structure of Gaegyeong was divided into the old town which existed early and the new town newly built as it was decided as the capital.
The space organization of Gaegyeong had its historicity and accepted all the process that it grew as the new capital from the existing natural village. Gaegyeong included all of the natural villages formed since the ancient society and new facilities created as it was built as the capital city of the later Goguryeo Dynasty and the capital of the Goryeo Dynasty. This showed that Gaegyeong was the complex city of the old town and the new town new- ly created. And its institutional organization was Obubangri. That is, it was structuralized as the new town which consists of the north and part of the center and east and the old town which consists of the southern regions of the center and the east and the south and the west.
As the palace of Gaegyeong, the capital, leaned to the western region, the center of the city resulted in Namdaega and Sibjaga. An economic space, that is, Sijeon was formed with these roads as the center. The market shops had various functions including a simple mar- ket, collecting public opinions, and the center of traffic routes. And Suchang Palace could assist the authority of the royal household as it was created in this area. Therefore, the eco- nomic space was the center of the capital and important space which showed the capital city’s identity.
The traffic routes of Gaegyeong had its characteristics that combined the old town with the new town. The new town was formed with Gwando, Namdaega, and Sibjaga as the center and various roads of labyrinth patterns were mixed in the old town which had been the natural village region. All the roads in Gaegyeong, the capital, had the assemblage of cross roads and accordingly, its space was structuralized as a radial urban form with cross as the center. Therefore, the background that 25 castle gates were created as Naseong was built in the reign of Hyeonjong of Goryeo can be the result that all the roads of the new town and the old town were reflected.
In conclusion, the economic space and traffic routes of Gaegyeong are the basics of understanding the spatial structure of the capital and the foundation that could keep cen- trality in the process of destroying and restoring it. However, considering reality that it is difficult to approach the truth, more detailed studies on each subject are required.
