팔련성의 구성요소와 기와생산체계 (The Components and Roof Tile Production Systems of Fortress Palryeon)

초록

팔련성의 축조 시기는 서고성과의 구조의 유사성을 근거로 보았을 때, 740년 전후에 건설된 것으로 판단된다. 폐기된 시기는 팔련성 1호 건물지 기단 퇴적층에서 출토된 ‘維次甘露元’ 다섯 글자가 새겨진 문자와에 의해, 928년 이후로 추정된다. 팔련성은 크게 내성과 외성의 이중성으로 구성되어 있다. 내성 북부 중앙에 남북방향의 대형건물지가 있는데, 남쪽에 있는 것이 제1호 건물지, 북쪽에 있는 것이 제2호 건물지이다. 제1호 건물지는 前朝大殿으로, 제2호 건물지는 寢殿으로 추정된다. 이러한 팔련성은 수도였던 시기가 기록상 10년 이내이므로 도성만이 축조되고, 도성과 직간접적으로 연계되는 무덤이나 생활공간 등은 수도였던 기간에는 충분히 갖추지 못하였던 것으로 보인다.
발해기와는 건축구조물의 사용처에 따라 평기와, 와당, 마루기와, 문자기와로 구분되며 용도에 따라 특수기와로 분류된다. 팔련성에서는 와당, 수키와, 암키와, 꽃무늬 벽돌, 녹유기와, 문자기와 등이 나타나며 궁전지에서는 녹유기와가 출토되었다. 녹유기와는 발해유적 가운데 도성에서 나오는 것으로 彩陶瓦와 함께 건축물의 등급을 나타내는 것이다. 팔련성 주변 사찰지에서도 평기와류와 와당류가 출토되었는데, 신생사찰지와 양목림사찰지에서는 상경성이나 서고성, 팔련성 궁전지에서 보이는 녹유기와들이 출토되기도 하였다. 오일사찰지에서는 암키와 부분에 압인된 문자기와가 출토되었다. 기와가 출토된 팔련성 주변 성곽의 대다수는 州와 縣의 치소가 설치되었던 곳이었다. 팔련성 부근 건축유적에서 암키와, 수키와가 출토되었는데, 이 가운데 密江西崗子遺址와 北大遺址는 日本道상의 역참으로 추정되는 곳이다. 반면에 팔련성 부근 무덤유적에서는 기와가 출토되지 않았다. 이는 東京을 도성으로 한 기간이 상대적으로 짧아서, 왕실이나 귀족들의 무덤이 조영될 겨를이 없었기 때문으로 생각된다.
팔련성에 있던 동경에 근접한 육도포ㆍ솔만자ㆍ신흥동 가마에서는 두만강 수계를 이용하여 기와를 운송하였던 것으로 생각된다. 그리고 크라스키노성의 가마들은 사원내의 자체 수요의 충당을 위한 사원전용 가마라고 할 수 있다. 문자기와를 통해 관영공방에서 제작에 참여한 工匠의 존재와, 간지를 통해서는 기와의 제작연대를 추정할 수가 있다. 기와 제작과 관련된 전문기술자 집단은 이처럼 존재했겠지만 단순 노무 인력은 수령을 통해 동원했을 것으로 생각된다. 현재까지 발견된 도성관련 가마터는 상경성과 동경성 부근에서만 발견되는 것으로 보아, 상경과 중경ㆍ동경지역의 두 곳에 가마가 설치되어 건축물에 제공되는 기와가 제작ㆍ유통된 것으로 생각된다

영어초록

Fortress Palryeon is estimated to have been built around 740 given its structural similarity to Fortress Seogo. Its abolition is estimated to have happened around 928 based on the five letters “維次甘露元” inscribed on a roof tile excavated in the sedimentary layer of stylobate at the Building Site No. 1 of Fortress Palryeon. There were inner and outer parts in Fortress Palryeon in a dual structure. There is a huge building site in the northsouth direction at the northern center of the inner part. The one in south is Building Site No.1, and the one in north is Building Site No. 2. While the former is estimated as a Jeonjodaejeon, the latter is estimated as a Chimjeon. The records tell that Fortress Palryeon served as a capital for less than ten years, which suggests that only the capital city was constructed with tombs and living spaces connected to it directly or indirectly built insufficiently during the period of ten years.
The roof tiles of Balhae are categorized into plain roof tiles, roof-end tiles, Maru roof tiles, and lettered roof tiles according to the places where they were put in the building structure. They are also divided into common and special roof tiles according to uses.
Many different types of roof tiles were found in Fortress Palryeon including roof-end tiles, convex and concave roofing tiles, bricks with a flower pattern, green-glazed roof tiles, and lettered roof tiles. The palace site produced green-glazed roof tiles. In Balhae relics, green-glazed roof tiles were commonly found in a capital city and represent the grade of buildings along with Chaedo roof tiles. Plain roof tiles and roof-end tiles were excavated in the sites of Buddhist temples around Fortress Palryeon, and green-glazed roof tiles found in the palace sites of Fortresses Sanggyeong, Seogo and Palryeon were excavated in the sites of new and Yangmokrim Buddhist temples. Lettered roof tiles sealed in concave roof tile parts were excavated in the site of Oil Buddhist Temple. A governing place of province and prefecture was set up in most of strongholds around Fortress Palryeon where roof tiles were excavated. Convex and concave roof tiles were excavated in the building sites near Fortress Palryeon, of which the sites of Milgangseogangja and Bukdae are estimated as the posts of Japanese tracks. No roof tiles were excavated in the tomb sites near Fortress Palryeon, which is because there was no time for the royal families and noblemen to build a tomb as the duration of Dongyeong as a capital city was relatively short.
In Fortress Palryeon, the kilns of Yukdopo, Solmanja and Shinheungdong close to Donggyeong seem to have transport their roof tiles via the water system of Duman River. The kilns of Kraskino Site were devoted to the temple as they accommodated its demand. The presence of factories that participated in the projects of government workshops was estimated based on lettered roof tiles, and the production years of roof tiles were estimated with Kanji. There were professional technician groups related to roof tile production with simple labor force mobilized via Suryeong. Kiln sites related to the capital city have been found only near Sanggyeongseong and Donggyeongseong, which suggests that kilns were built in the Sanggyeong and JunggyeongㆍDonggyeong areas and manufactured and distributed roof tiles needed in buildings.
