현대시의 물 상상력에 나타난 노자적 사유 연구 (A Study on Lao-tzu(老子)-based Reason Shown in Imagination of Water in Contemporary Poetry)

초록

이 글은 노자적 사유를 바탕으로 현대시에 나타난 물 상상력을 탐험함으로써 생명의 탄생과 생명의 영속성이 물과 직결되어 있음을 시인들은어떤 모습으로 그려내고 있는지를 점검하면서 그 중요성을 살펴보려는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현대시의 물 상상력을 ‘열린 물-생명성 지향과노자적 사유’와 ‘닫힌 물-죽음 심상과 노자적 사유’라는 두 가지 방식으로탐색했다. 시의 본질을 놓고 볼 때 유형적 분류는 시가 지닌 확장성을한계 속에 노정하는 위험을 안기 쉽다. 그러나 이 유형화의 본질은 ‘분류’에있는 것이 아니라 ‘이해의 수단으로 활용’하는 것에 있다.
열린 물-생명성 지향과 노자적 사유에서는 김소월의 「개여울」과 「엄마야 누나야」, 그리고 박재삼의 「봄 江邊」과 「울음이 타는 가을江」을 텍스트로 삼아 대긍정의 열린 세계로서의 물, 끊임없이 흐르는 동적(動的)인 생명력, 정화된 이상향으로서의 자연, 생명적 기운이 넘치는 서정 등으로 표상된 물 상상력을 탐색했다. 이들 시인은 노자의 자연사상이 만든 곡신불사의존재인 현빈의 세계를 시적 공간으로 불러들여 모성과 생생력, 그리고서정성의 물결이 도저하게 출렁이는 우주적 화음을 노래했음을 확인 할수 있다.
닫힌 물-죽음 심상과 노자적 사유에서는 신경림의 「낙동강 밤마리나루」, 최승호의 「누가 시화호를 죽였는가」, 박주택의 「중랑천에서 고기잡이」 등을 호명했다. 이들 시인의 시에 나타난 물 상상력은 오염되거나유동성을 상실한 채 죽어가는 현상에 주목한다. 오늘날의 산업화와 도시화의 미명 아래에서 병든 물은 인간 소외와 불안, 공포, 죽음 등 부정적사유를 노정한다. 이것은 곧 온갖 수난과 비극을 고스란히 간직한 골짜기의신 현빈의 어두운 얼굴인 것이다. 오늘날의 물은 인간에 의해 닫힌 물이며,이런 실상을 형상화함으로써 시인들은 생명과 등가를 이루는 물의 중요성을 역설한다.
열린 세계를 지향하던 물 상상력은 산업화 시기를 기점으로 닫힌 세계로급변했음을 알 수 있다. 즉 산업화 이전 시기의 물에 관한 상상력이 주로세계를 향해 열린 물로써의 순수 서정적 측면에서 생명성, 재생, 정화등의 의미를 담았다면, 산업화 이후 시기의 물에 관한 상상력은 닫힌 물에대한 고발과 비판, 경고, 성찰 등의 의미를 담았다고 할 수 있다.
노자의 곡신사상이 상징하는 바, 물은 곧 ‘생명’이다. 그러나 자본주의아래에서 물은 끝없는 이윤창출의 대상물로 전락한다. 약육강식과 무한경쟁의 신자유주의 앞에 제물처럼 놓인 물이라는 자연과 인간의 관계는새롭게 설정되어야 하고, 생명력, 그리고 정화와 재생의 영원성을 가진열린 자연으로서의 상선약수가 되어야 한다는 점에서 우리 현대시의 물상상력을 조명해 보는 것은 의미 있는 탐색이라 할 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine its importance while inspecting withwhich image the poets are depicting that the birth of life and the permanenceof life are directly linked with water, by exploring imagination of water thatwas shown in contemporary poetry based on Lao-tzu(老子)’s reason. To dothis, it explored the imagination of water in contemporary poetry with twomethods such as ‘open water-orientation to vitality and Lao-tzu(老子)’s reason’and ‘closed water-death imagery and Lao-tzu(老子)’s reason.’ Seeing the essenceof poetry, the typological classification is apt to allow scalability of being possessedby poem to have a risk of being exposed to the inside the limitation. However,the essence of this typology is not what relies upon ‘classification,’ but whatrelies upon ‘application as a means of understanding.’In the open water-orientation to vitality and Lao-tzu(老子)’s reason, it hadtexts as Kim So-wol’s 「Gaeyeoul」 & 「To mother and sister」, and Park Jae-sam’s「Spring Reiverside(江邊)」 & 「A fall river firing with crying」, and then exploredimagination of water, which was symbolized as water into the open world ofgreat affirmation, as dynamic vitality of flowing continuously, as nature in thepurified utopia, and as lyricism full of life energy. These poets can be confirmedto have sung cosmic harmony of being rolled the wave of maternal instinct,vitality(生生力), and lyricism by calling the world of Hyeonbin(玄牝), which is the existence in Gokshinbulsa(谷神不死) made by Lao-tzu(老子)’s naturethought, into poetic space.
In the closed water-death imagery and Lao-tzu(老子)’s reason, it called ShinGyeong-rim’s 「Dock in Bammari of Nakdonggang River」, Choe Seung-ho’s「Who killed the Sihwaho Lake?」, and Park Ju-taek’s 「Fishing in theJungrangcheon Stream」. The imagination of water, which was shown in thesepoets’ poems, pays attention to the phenomenon of being contaminated or beingdead with losing fluidity. The ailing water under today’s good name ofindustrialization and urbanization exposes negative grounds such as humanalienation, anxiety, fear, and death. This is just a dark face of Hyeonbin(玄牝)as god of valley, which intactly keeps all sorts of ordeals and tragedies. Poetsemphasize importance of water, which forms equivalence to life, by embodyingthis reality as today’s water is the closed water by a human being.
The imagination of water that had pointed to the open world can be knownto have been rapidly changed into the closed world by having the startingpoint as the period of industrialization. That is to say, as the imagination onwater in the period before industrialization is the open water primarily towardthe world, it contained meanings of vitality, regeneration, and purification. Onthe other hand, the imagination on water in the period after industrializationcan be said to have contained meanings such as accusation, criticism, warning,and introspection on the closed water.
What Lao-tzu(老子)’s Gokshinbulsa(谷神不死) symbolizes is that water isjust ‘life.’ However, under the capitalism, the water falls into the object inendless profit creation. There is a need of being newly established relationshipof a human being with nature called water, which is put like sacrifice in frontof neo-liberalism in the jungle law and the limitless competition. There is aneed of being Sangseonyaksu(上善若水:the highest good is Like that of water)as the open nature of having eternity of vitality, purification and regeneration.
In this sense, it will be able to be said to be significant exploration to illuminateimagination of water in our contemporary poetry.
