김소월 시의 ‘동물’ 상상력에 나타난 유기론적 양상 연구 (Study of Organic Aspect of Imagination of ‘Animals’ in Kim So-wol’s Poet)

초록

본고는 생태시가 전 지구적 차원에서 지속적으로 창작되고 논의되어야 한다는 전제 하에서 김소월의 동물 관련 시에 나타난 유기론적 양상을 구명하는데 역점을 두었다. 그동안 김소월의 시는 주로 전통적 측면에서 님 지향성의 서정 세계나 언어의 리듬적 감각을 중점으로 하는 연구가 활발히 진행되어왔다. 이는 김소월 시를 일관되게 지배하는 서정의 원리를 파악하는데 매우 유용한 역할을 했다.
김소월의 서정시는 인간과 자연의 관계에 있어서 자연을 하나의 생명을 가진 유기적 존재로 보고, 그 위상을 강화시키면서 상호의존적 조화와 균형을 보여준다. 이는 생태론에서 강조하는 유기적 관계성 지향을 보여주는 상상력이다. 특히 김소월의 시에서 그러한 상상력은 동물 관련 시에서 자연스럽게 반영되어 나타난다. 살펴본 바, 김소월 시집 『진달내ᄭᅩᆺ』에 동물과 관련된 시가 상당히 많이 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 작품 제목에 동물 이름이 들어갔거나 내용에 동물이 등장하는 작품은 총 38편으로 『진달내ᄭᅩᆺ』에 수록된 127편의 30%에 해당한다.
동물은 생물 중에서 식물에 대비되는 분류군으로서 다른 생물을 먹이로 해서 살아가는 생명체이다. 생태 철학에서는 지구 전체를 하나의 생태계로 보고, 지구의 생태계를 이루는 동식물을 포함한 모든 자연 개체가 다 유기적으로 살아있는 주체라 본다. 유기론적 관점은 이러한 특성으로 인해 물활론적이고 범신론적인 사유체계를 추동한다.
유기체론은 기계론적 자연관과 반대 입장을 견지한다. 생명 등의 생물학적 현상들도 물질과 운동이라는 입장에서 물리적·화학적 과정으로 환원해 설명하려 했던 기계론적 자연관은 데카르트, 스피노자, 뉴턴 등에 의해 17세기 이후 근대 자연과학 발달의 사상적 배경이자 근대적 세계관의 핵심적 특징이 되었다. 기계론적 자연관은 자연을 생명이 없는 물질적 재료로 간주하는 반면 유기체론은 자연을 스스로 성장과 발생을 거듭하는 살아있는 주체로 본다. 김소월 시의 동물 상상력은 이러한 유기적 양상을 뚜렷하게 보여준다. 그럼에도 김소월 연구에서 동물과 관련된 논문이나 비평은 찾아보기가 쉽지 않다.
본고는 이러한 사실을 토대로 김소월의 시에 대한 더 다양하고 세밀한 연구가 요청되고 있음을 확인하였다. 생태적 상상력을 기초로 한 생태 시학에서 유기론은 생명의 존엄성을 각성시키는 방안으로서 작품에 깊이 있는 감정 또는 사상 이입을 추동하는 역할을 한다. 따라서 김소월의 시를 생태적 시학 차원에서 고찰할 때 동물 관련 시는 그 중요성의 비중이 더욱 높다할 것이다. 본고는 이러한 관점에서 김소월 시의 동물 관련 상상력에 나타난 유기적 양상을 생태적 시학 측면에서 규명하려는 데서 출발하였다. 김소월 시에 나타난 생태적 시학의 규명은 한국 생태시의 지평을 넓힘과 동시에 한국 현대시가 세계를 향해 열려 있음을 확인하는 일이 될 것이다.

영어초록

Under the premise that the ecological poems should continuously be created and discussed in the global dimension, this study was focused on examining the organic aspect of the animal-related poems by Kim So-wol. Till now, Kim So-wol’s poems have been actively studied, focusing on the lyric world of directivity toward the lover mostly in traditional terms or rhythmic sense of language. It showed a very useful role to examine the principle of the lyricism to rule the Kim So-wol’s poems consistently.
Kim So-wol’s lyric poetry regarded the nature in the relation between the human and nature as organic existence having one life, and it reinforced that phase and showed the interdependent harmony and balance. It is the imagination to show the organic relationship-orientation which is emphasized in ecology. Especially, the imagination in Kim So-wol’s poems appears naturally through the animal-related poems. As it is seen, there are many poetry related to the animal in the collection of the poems of Kim So-wol “Jindalaekkot” (Azalea Flowers). The total number of works showing the name of animal in the work's title or appearing the animal is 38, and it corresponds 30% of 127 works from the collection of the poems, the “Jindalaekkot” (Azalea Flowers).
The animal is classified against the plants in the creatures and it is the life living on other creatures. The ecological philosophy regards all over the globe as an ecosystem, and considers whole natural population, including the animals and plants which forming the ecosystem of the earth as living subjects organically. The organic perspective is animistic by these characteristics and it drives the pantheistic speculation system.
The theory of organism adheres closely to the mechanistic theory of nature and opposite position. In the position that the biological phenomenon like life is the materials and motion, the mechanistic theory of nature which explained it by restoring as the physical/chemical processes became the ideological background of development of the modern natural science and the core characteristic of the modern world view by Descartes, Spinoza, Newton since the 17th century. The mechanistic theory of nature considers nature as physical material without life, while the theory of organism regards the nature as a living entity that continues to grow and generate. The animal imagination in Kim So-wol’s poems shows the organic aspect distinctly. Nevertheless, it is not easy to find the paper and criticism related to the animal from the study on Kim So-wol.
This study examined the request of more diverse and detailed research about Kim So-wol’s poems based on these facts. The organism from the ecological poetics based on the ecological imagination is the method to awaken the sanctity of life and it takes the role to drive deeper emotional or ideological empathy of the work. Therefore, for considering the Kim So-wol’s poems in the ecological poetics dimension, it can be said that the proportion of its importance of the animal-related poems is more significant. This study started to examine the organic aspect in the imagination related to animal from Kim So-wol’s poems based on this perspective and ecological poetics aspect. To examine the ecological poetics in the Kim So-wol’s poems will expand the prospect of Korean ecological poems and it will show that Korean contemporary poetry opens to the world.
