초록

본 논문의 목적은 대한예수교장로회(통합) 교단이 가지고 있는 기독교교육의 특징을 분석하는 것이다. 본 교단의 규모와 다양성 때문에 교단 기독교교육의 특징을 몇 가지로 정리하는 것은 쉽지 않은 과제다. 이를 위해 먼저 본 연구에서는 교단 기독교교육의 역사, 정책을 이끄는 교육자원부의 역할과 교육과정을 분석하는 큰 그림을 그렸다. 하지만 이러한 정책적인 특징들과 함께 교단이 몸담고 있는 사회의 변화는 본 교단의 기독교교육현장을 빠르게 변화시켜왔다. 연구자는 이를 구심력과 원심력이라는 두 가지 축을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 먼저, 본 교단 교회를 중심으로 한 구심적 기독교교육 현장의 모습을 살펴보았다. 교회교육의 현장들이 급변하는 시대에 응답하고 있는 사례를 제시함으로써, 본 교단 교회 교육의 특징을 분석하고자 했다. 둘째로 교회의 중심성(구심력)을 외부로 확대하고 있는 원심력 형태의 기독교교육 사례를 살펴보았다. 즉, 대안학교 모형, 비기독교학교 선교모형, 다문화 및 새터민 접근모형, 소외된 이웃을 향한 사회복지 모형 등 교회의 울타리를 넘어선 기독교교육 현장을 소개하였다. 본 연구는 문헌연구를 넘어서 직접 교회와 기 관을 방문하고 인터뷰한 내용을 정리, 분석함으로써, 가능한 한 현장의 모습을 그대로 담아내고자 노력하였다는 점에 그 가치를 두고자 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of Christian education in the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK). It is difficult to define the characteristics of Christian education in the PCK because of the denomination's size and diversity. This study gives an overview of the history of Christian education in the PCK, policies and roles of typical educational departments within the denomination, as well as curriculum used within the denomination. However, Christian education has changed rapidly in the attempt to match the characteristics of the denomination and its member churches. Therefore, the relationship between Christian education and the larger denomination will be explored in this study through the metaphor of centripetal and centrifugal force. Accordingly, this study will also explore several characteristics of churches in the PCK such as decreasing congregation size, social change, change of perception towards Christian education, and new adaptations and variations within the Christian education field based on the demands of churches. Churches have been forced to change for many reasons. One reason for this change and adaptation has been the demands brought by social and theological changes from within the church and the larger denomination. The second reason for this change comes from the larger Korean society and its social and political needs. Examples of this include the introduction of alternative school models, missions within non-Christian schools, multi-culturalism, the need of Christian education for North Korean defectors, and Christian education in response to social welfare needs. This study will help to understand the large vastness of Christian education within the PCK, and will attempt to forecast how Christian education will be response in the many new fields. The data for this study is based on case studies of many churches and organizations. It includes many interviews and information gathered through direct visitation of educational and church sites.
