융합적 코드 분석을 통한 알렉산드로 미켈레의 디자인 아이덴티티 특성 연구 (A Study on Alessandro Michele’s Characteristics of Design Identity through Convergence Code Analysis)

초록

알렉산드로 미켈레는 ‘무규칙, 무성(性), 무시대’를지향하는 스타일을 선보임으로써 구찌의 새로운 스타일을 정립하였으며, 상반된 이미지들이 겹겹이 융합된스타일로 이분법적인 사고에서 벗어난 복합문화에 대한 지향을 보여주었다. 본 연구는 알렉산드로 미켈레의 작품의 가장 두드러진 특징인 융합적 코드의 유형분석을 통해 미켈레 디자인의 아이덴티티를 파악하고자 하며, 이를 통해 브랜드의 성공적 리브랜딩을 이끈요인을 고찰하고자 하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구는 문헌연구와 사례연구의 방법으로 진행하였다. 문헌연구는 구찌와 알렉산드로 미켈레, 브랜드 아이덴티티, 크리에이티브 디렉터 등에 관련된 선행연구, 국내일간지의 인터넷 기사를 중심으로 하였다. 사례연구는 구찌의 공식웹사이트(www.gucci.com)에서는 브랜드 및알렉산드로 미켈레와 관련된 자료를, 보그닷컴(www.
vogue.com)에서는 알렉산드로 미켈레의 2015년 F/W 부터 2020년 F/W까지의 프레타 포르테 여성복 컬렉션 자료를 수집하였다.
연구결과 알렉산드로 미켈레의 작품에 나타난 융합적 코드 중 젠더의 융합은 남성복과 여성복의 전형적요소를 구분 없이 조형적 요소로 활용하는 것으로, 이제 패션은 개인의 젠더 정체성보다는 미적 정체성을 표현하는 도구가 되었음을 제시하고 있다. 스타일의 융합은 하나의 룩에서 다양한 스타일의 요소들이 중첩되면서 독특한 스타일로 표현되고 있는 것으로, 특히 상반된 이미지의 요소들이 융합되었을 때 규정된 스타일을벗어난 새로움을 주는 효과가 더욱 커지고 있었다. 시간의 융합은 과거 서양 시대복식의 요소를 융합한 것과20세기 패션의 스타일을 차용한 복고적 스타일로 나누어 볼 수 있었다. 공간의 융합은 서양을 제외한 국가나민족의 전통복식요소를 활용한 것으로 중국, 티벳, 일본, 아프리칸 스타일이 자주 선보여졌으며, 구찌 컬렉션에 풍부한 색감과 장식적 요소를 더하는 역할을 하고있었다. 문화의 융합은 장르가 다른 예술이나 문화, 상위문화와 하위문화, 인종, 아름다움과 추함과 같은 상반된 요소들의 복합적 표현으로 나타났다.
융합적 코드로 표현된 알렉산드로 미켈레의 디자인아이덴티티 중 패션인스피레이션의 탈경계성은 인스피레이션의 주제나 조형적 기법 측면에서 이분법적사고에서 벗어나 자유로운 감성이 공존하는 특성으로젠더 뉴트럴, 멀티컬쳐, 뉴트로 스타일의 형태로 나타났다. 다층적 이미지를 통한 맥시멀리즘 스타일은 전혀 연관성이 없어 보이는 요소나 이미지들을 조합함으로써 다양한 조형적 요소를 풍부하게 하였으며, 멀티 프린트, 대조성이 강한 보색대비, 로맨틱 맥시멀리즘 스타일로 표현되고 있었다. 패션의 아름다움에 대한 가치 확장은 ‘어글리 패션’을 통해 표현되면서 아름다움과 추함은 좋은 것(好)과 싫은 것(不好)이 아니라 다른 취향일 뿐이며, 추함은 아름다움의 반대가 아니라 또 다른 아름다움의 발견일 수 있다는 밀레니얼세대의 미에 대한 가치관을 대변하고 있었다. 착장에서의 자기표현의 유연성은 기존 패션의 틀에서 벗어나 경계와 규칙이 없이 유연하게 옷을 입는 착장의유연성을 제시하였고, 이를 통해 새로운 세대가 패션을 통해 자신만의 존재감과 감성을 표출할 수 있는기회를 제공했다는 의미를 지닌다.

영어초록

Alessandro Michele established Gucci’s new style by introducing a style aiming at ‘irregularity, asexuality and timelessness’, and showed his orientation for complex culture free from dichotomous thinking with an integrated style in layers of conflicting images. This study aims to figure out the identity of Michele’s design by typological analysis of integrated code, which is the most prominent feature of his works, and, through this, to identify the elements leading successful rebranding of the brand. The research was conducted by means of literature research and case studies. The literature research focused on prior research related to Gucci and Alexandro Michele, brand identity, creative director, and internet articles of domestic daily newspapers. The case study collected data related to brands and Alexandro Michele on Gucci’s official website (www.gucci.com) and on www.vogue.com on Aleksandro Michele’s 2015 F/W to 2020 F/W.
As the result, the ‘Convergence of Gender’ among the integrated codes shown in Alessandro Michele’s works uses typical elements of men’s and women’s clothing as formative elements without distinction, suggesting that fashion has now become a tool to express aesthetic identity rather than individual gender identity. The ‘Convergence of Style’ is being expressed in a unique style as overlapping elements of various styles in one look, especially, the effect giving newness beyond the stipulated style was getting higher when elements of conflicting images were integrated. The ‘Convergence of Time’ could be divided into retro styles borrowing the 20th century fashion style and the fusion of elements of Western period dress in the past. The ‘Convergence of Space’ using the traditional costume elements of countries and peoples except the West often introduced Chinese, Tibetan, Japanese and African styles, adding rich colors and decorative elements to the Gucci collection. The ‘Convergence of Culture’ was appeared as a complex expression of conflicting elements such as art or culture with different genres, upper and lower cultures, race, and beauty and ugliness.
The ‘Trans-boundary of Fashion Inspiration’ among Alessandro Michele’s design identities expressed in a convergent code emerged in the form of gender neutral, multi-culture and newtro-style with characteristic coexisting free sensibility from dichotomous thinking in terms of the theme or formative techniques of Inspiration.
The ‘Maximalism style through overlaying images’ enriched various formative elements by combining seemingly unrelated elements or images and it was expressed in a multi-print, complementary color contrast, and romantic maximalism style.
As the ‘Extending Value to Beauty of Fashion’ was expressed through ‘Ugly Fashion.’, it represented the Millennial generation’s view of beauty that beauty and ugliness are not a liking or disliking but different taste, and ugliness may not be the opposite of beauty, but the discovery of another beauty.
The ‘flexibility of self-expression on wearing’ suggests the flexibility of dressing flexibly without boundaries and rules away from the existing fashion framework, and through this, it has a significance to provide an opportunity that the new generation can express its own presence and sensibility through fashion.
