日本語省略硏究의 分析과 方法 (Analysis and Methods of Ellipsis in Japanese)

초록

This study proposes the definition of ellipsis based on the previous research on the elliptical phenomena occurring in the discourse between a speaker and a hearer.
As an overview, Ellipsis is classified as four types and the change of process in the trend of the research in progress is touched on. In the analysis and methods of the previous studies, this paper considers a specific subdivisional study of elliptical phenomena in Japanese centering on postpositional particle wa (は). Previous studies have been analyzed being divided into 4 groups according to the characteristics of the researchers. Also, the methods have been classified as 3 types by means of the form and each method is illustrated by an example.
In this paper conversion to 'zero' article (which we call wa『は』 to 'zero') is suggested from the new perspective for the method of ellipsis. However, the items dealt here are just a part of elliptical phenomena. The paper neither addresses the connection with other types of ellipsis nor provides the definite explanation for overall elliptical phenomena. For future research on the more concrete relation with the whole elliptical phenomena in Japanese, the following issues have been brought up: First, we should divide ellipsis in two types--linguistic context (linguistic forms, context, referential binding) and nonlinguistic context (implication, situation, cohesion) and distinguish research methods suggested here and other conditions (that is, methods concerning the forms other than prepositional particles 'は') depending on which context they influence ellipsis. Besides, the problems such as acceptability of the examples and subjectivity have yet to be solved.
